DIY Goat Udder Cover

Momma won't wean her baby so I have had to take matters into my own hands. Separation was making mom depressed so I found a solution. An udder cover. I made it out of materials that I already had.

You are giving me goat fever. I miss my goats, I miss the goat kids, I miss milking them. I might of found 2 Alpines. They are not registered but they are purebred. I get to go see them soon. Thank you for your videos.

Thank you! My neighbor asked me to make a goat bra for her big female. Her little dwarf male keeps trying to nurse, and she needs to stop him. This helps a lot.

FYI - I had to modify your design a bit, but it seems to work! Thanks!

I made one like this too last spring, it worked well. I used Velcro and sewed it to some strapping, actually a cut dog leash from dollar tree because they were less bulky. I thought of using the twill strapping they use with upholstery but I didn't.

I ended up using 2 flannel shirt. cut the arms off and used the tails of the shirt to do a wrap like. It was different but stayed on.

Are the metal buckled uncomfortable when she lays down? I would be concerned it gets really tight as they lay down. Would a very strong 1 inch wide elastic work with this? I have made numerous things for horses and now have Nubians do this idea is Fanta! Thanks for sharing!

Didn’t bother her at all. Not sure if elastic would work unless stretched tight to keep it from coming off and that might be an issue.

How did this wind up working out for you? I'm considering making something similar for when we start milking our doe. I'm thinking... Instead of separating the kids during the day so we can milk in the evening and put then back together overnight... Just covering her udders during the day so no separation is needed.

Caprine Supply has one you can buy, but its expensive ($50). I found a place called woofs & hoofs that has a nice one, for a reasonable price - but its located in Ukraine! I did order one, and received email from them, but I haven't gotten a purchase order yet, so who knows. Maybe it works....

Do you have some kind of pattern that you went off of to make this? It looks so much better than the one I made out of a dogsled harness and a dew rag I had on hand. (call me MacGyver lol) I would really like to make more, but would like to make some more like yours.

Ebon Pardus I didn't use a pattern. The bag is made from a pair of my sons old sweat pants and the nylon strapping I already had on hand. I have had a few other inquiries about it so I will probably do a quick tutorial soon to show how I made it.

Could you make me one of these? I'd pay you of course! My Nubian is separated today from her doeling and the poor baby just screams and screams. Its sad. I'd rather just use a cover but no one has jumped on the idea to mass produce these! lol I'm not so good at putting things together. Maybe make a video showing all the parts and how you assembled yours?!? Dying to learn! Great job! -Leslie

I had one doe who was determined to nurse and had to totally separate her and her kids. After a while even though she wanted to nurse they weren’t interested anymore.

It looks like your goats have no protection from dogs attacking them in an open field.
