DIY Ghostbusters Proton Pack Build from Scratch- MADE FROM WOOD

How to create the iconic proton pack from Ghostbusters 1 and Ghostbusters 2! The Chisler takes on the daunting task of recreating a screen accurate unlicensed nuclear accelerator from WOOD and using Arduino to drive the special effect lights.

    I made my pack about 6 years ago. Mostly wood and syntactic foam. The crank generator was a solid 6x6 I hollowed out, pack weighs about 35 pounds so not too bad. Thrower was all 1/4" plywood. Came out pretty good I think.

    Pause at the 1:16 I just wanna say that neutrona wand portion of the pack build is always the most challenging, so I won't knock points off if you used the Hasbro Plasma Series Neutrona Wand, let's see how the rest goes.

    Hey, just caught your video.I just dress up as a ghostbuster this Halloween.I use the spirit ghostbuster proton pack which I had for couple years.I been then thinking about build a new proton pack form scratch. It reminded me of when I met Erine Hudson at a con and told me the ghostbuster pack some made of wood and wear heavy. So I want to make me one of wooden one just I think more sturdy the plasic one.and I it will feel proud of my self. That I can do it.😄

    Man, this is an amazing accomplishment! I've seen a couple of people make a shell out of wood with the purpose of making molds... I didn't think it was possible to make the majority of the pack with wood. How is the weight? I love your video as well. Your communication skills are top notch. And thank you for the props!

    Thanks so much for the kind words! The weight isn’t bad at all- I would guess about 25 pounds or so. Fortunately the wood is thin but super sturdy and given it’s mostly hollow it’s not too bad. And funny story, after my brother saw the completed pack, he suggested I do a RoboCop costume next year… so I may be referencing more your videos soon!

    @theweekendsocialpodcast5577

    4 ай бұрын

    Thanks so much for the feedback! And that’s awesome you are taking on the fun journey of building a pack! So, I don’t have a full list of parts and I built this almost two years ago, but I would 100% recommend going to the gbfans website and check out the plans… so much of this build was literally winging it and trying to make things work- but that was also a huge part of the fun! My best advice is to take it one part at a time and order/build the parts as you get to them. Find some pictures of the original props, compare them with the plans and then make it your own! The two regrets I have about the build- first, I wish I had spent more time collecting the big / more expensive items (Alice pack frame, Arduino kit, etc) instead of all at once… it gets pricey! And second, I wish I had a 3D printer for some of the small/unique parts (knobs, accents, etc.). I have one now and if I ever build another one, I fully intend to use it! Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have questions along the build. I’d love to see how it turns out!

    Well, it WAS done around the same time they released the new film, but it’s actually based off of the first movie’s design. The pack in Afterlife has some additional modifications (additional hoses, switches and knobs, etc) that I didn’t include here. You can see the additions in Adam Savage’s video- they’re pretty cool actually. But for this one, I really wanted a classic build… I only made a couple of small cosmetic tweaks.
