DIY gate opener installation. My wife says, guys who can "fix things" are hot. Now, I fix everything

Here is a video of my step-by-step, bare-bones, straight forward, no chit-chat, installation of the E8 300mm dual swing gate openers. I welded up some steel tubing frames, put the 3x3 steel posts in concrete, mounted redwood fence boards and then added an electric opener for an automatic drive-in gate.

It's easier than you think. Start small and work your way up.
Ahhh seeing that chevy role out of those automatic gates melted my heart
I love watching videos like this for several reasons. 1. Show me how to do it without a bunch of needless jibber jabber. 2. Use a tripod and get camera close enough to work to see what is going on, without having to watch a bunch of camera motion, leaving a person with a headache or nausia. 3. Good video editing with easy to listen to music. 4. Watch someone who obviously has years of experience in a lot of things and cares about doing things proper, giving him the right to show others how to do a job in a professional manner. Thanks for the professional video. It was a pleasure to watch.

Great video really liked the attention to detail that you gave this job very well-thought-out
Excellent video, it certainly helped me see i could do my own gates with the equipment, thanks.
that is exactly what i need.. my gate space is the same as yours.. i hope it is not too expensive for me.... its under $500 ... you earned a sub.. this is a good video too.. thanks for not talking to the camera for 30 minutes..
Awesome DIY! Wonderful good info and a job well done!!! Thank you!
This is THE BEST DIY video I have ever seen. (and I have watched A LOT!!) from everything in a house to lots on sports cars like Porsches and BMW's to trucks and motorcycles. DUDE!!! You are not only GREAT at DIY, your video production is superb (and I am a DIY guy who has produced and acted in many films). I totally understand the 765 thumbs up that I currently see on this vid, but I am BEWILDERED by the 108 thumbs down. I'd like to see those people do better. (IMHO it's not possible) SUPERB!!! Thank you for the insight!!!
Best step by step awesome simple and not complicated thanks
This guy is awesome. Look at that gate. I bet he welded that steel gate together. Oh man, come to my house.
complimenti , hai fatto tutto il lavoro da solo . Bravo
Thanks for teching us the step by step.
Great vid! I'm building a front fence with gates on my channel and had the urika moment of automating the gates!! Great stuff!!! This will be considered in the budget😅👍

You're a genius my friend. Thanks for the detailed information. I bought one, different brand, but the instructions are crap...no instructions whatsoever as to mounting properly. Thanks so much. I do have a question. I want one side of my gate to open more than 90 degrees, almost 120. How do I adjust it to mount it?
Very solid

Good job man...
Great Video. Great 👍 JOB.
Great video! Being that you did not use the rubber stopper, did you just install the openers so they are fully extended while closed? It sounds like you had to do some adjusting to get them lined up exactly right. I'm installing the exact same kit, so this video is excellent. I'm just trying to figure out if I can install the openers fully extended (knowing I may need to tweak it a little) without having to install the rubber stopper.
Hey Eric what size tube did you use on your gate project? Looks like 4x4 post and 3x3 on the gate.

Hey amigo, really helpful video I m trying to do the same job, my gate is just solid metal it opens by swing mode, probably about 400 pounds, in California sometimes we have really windy days, do you think the wind one day will just break the swing attachments?
Great job!!!!

Thanks for the the thumbs up! I'm posting more DIY videos. I am working on my PETNET fix video. This company went out of business without a whisper leaving us who bought the pet feeding device empty handed. My fix makes it work again!
Good job I learned a lot, thanks! I have a question: what happens when there is a power outage? Is it what the battery is for? Assume that battery is also off, is there a way to open the gate then?

Hi, great video I have the same kind of opening but I'm having a problem recently. The gate stays open for less then a sec. It used to be open for at least 5 sec, and I don't know how now it just won't! I hope you know what's going on!

Does homelink or universal remote work on it?
The bars open and close the gate, but in the closed position can the gate be forced to open? Is it locked in the closed position or what amount of force without destroying the gate would open it?
@chriscraft77022
6 жыл бұрын
they are screw driven cylinders, so yes the gate is locked 100% when closed.. you would have to use force enough to bend all the brackets or either break the screws... if the mechanism fails to open all you can do is unscrew the arms from the inner fence (smaller brackets) and manually open the gate the old fashioned way
@henryrollins9177

Chris Craft So...would you say that a gate like this one is strong enough not to be forced open, at least by hand or breaker bar ? Of course a car-truck pushing it will be too much to handle for suck small brackets/hardware...
can anyone help me.. my control board of E8 Dual swing gate opener just got malfunction now.. The gate automatically open without touching the remote. Upon checking the main control board, i found 2 lizards walking around the main board. Will it be the cause of this malfunction? I already changed the code for remote transmitter and receiver to think that some of my neighbors has the same remote configuration. I also removed all power to the board for several hours to make it reset on itself. But still, no good.. Do I need to order a new board?
3 years later does the gate opener still working? Any updates would be awesome. Trying to sell me lift master I think is definitely reliable but I’m not ready to spend 5 grand for a opener. Heard mix review on mighty mule and ghost control.
If I may ask, can you tell me what wire did you use and how did you connect the "doorbell" gate opener from the outside?
Nice job. What is it that causes the motors to stop when they are opening and closing, are they set to open 90 degrees or do you have to calibrate? Was thinking of trying to install something like this myself.

Mine were a combination of how to install the brackets and then some fine tuning.
Thank you for your very informative video.. How strongly it keeps the doors open or closed? Can someone manually push close it once opened I want strong opening.. Which can not be closed without electricity.

You cannot push them open or closed unless you pull the pin and disconnect the arm

Where did you buy the steel frame with hinges?
Ok, so for some reason I still think I could maybe do this one day, lol. You laid your conduit before your driveway was poured, what would I do if that's not an option? Can't really visualize how to get the wires to the box otherwise. Thanks for such a great video btw!

There are water pressure tunnelers but you have to backfill. Or you sawcut the concrete. I have sawcut after thoughts many times. It's not that big of a deal as it sounds. There is always a way

Would say the kill switch for the button opener should have been put through the wall Into the house, anyone could know how these work and work out to open the gates without the fob, great vid all the same
@arizonaeric9598

Glad you liked it! Probably should mount the panel inside too because it would be very easy to open and short 2 terminals; "anyone could know how these work", or even quicker just remove two pins on the mechanical arms and manually open the gates (the non-technical crooks know this already). Do what it takes to be safe my friend!

Good
Where did you get that gate ? If it's custom made any suggestions ?
Can you please share the details about the product. Where to buy?
Bought a house but only 1 door and no wires or pipes prepared for the other side, sad....
Is there any other method to do without the using 12v battery
It's been 4 years and this is your only video so I'm doubting you'll ever even see this. Still I'm wondering how the system has held up and what gauge tube steel is that fence frame made of.
Love the title haha

Hi. Very clean install btw. I'm thinking about doing the same thing. How much resistance could those two doors take before someone could force their way though? I want to have a little bit of security with my gates.

The steel frame is very strong and the motor arms a screw driven and seem very strong. I put a latch and padlock on the inside for when we would leave for long periods. But, anybody with a screwdriver could remove some wood boards or just climb over, but the locked latch would make it hard to open to drive thru. Hope that helps!

@@arizonaeric9598 Do you think 1/4" wall tube is sufficient? I''m not sure what you used.
@arizonaeric9598

@@SoulBoxer I think used 3x3 1/4" wall on the posts and the gate was much lighter, I think it was 2x2 3/32" wall. Just thick enough so I didnt blow holes thru it with my welder LOL. You can see at 00:48 the post has a large corner radius and the gate tubing has a rather short radius
I wish I could do this I love things like this but I don't think anyone would hire an 11 year old to setup a double swing gate

Hi, great job first of all. I can never do this. Too much electrical work involved. At the end of the video it seemed to me that when the gates open, the gap between the gate and the post is wider towards the bottom than towards the top. Am I correct and is there a reason why?

I have found that happens when there is a restriction. A new installation may just need some adjustment as to the limit switches. If the gate opens or closes too far and hits the resistance protection it will act like that. I had to fuss with mine to get it right. Good luck!
