DIY function generator XR2206 sine triangle sweep AM 1976 teardown

Ғылым және технология

Equipment in this video is made by Jesper G. i guess about 1976, the XR2206 in this video is the old original with the spike error, they fixed this in later versions, the IC was made from 1970 to 2004 by EXAR Corporation, even today you can find cheap kits with this function generator all in one IC.
this unit actually works, is full of trimers for adjusting all things perfectly in, Sweep input, and AM modulation input too. it can even do both modulations at the same time.
this MK case measurements in mm Deep 215, Width 156, Height 108

I use auto generated subs, so if you find errors worth fixing, please comment with the time in the video you saw the error, i will be happy to fix it. This also apply to the Danish version.

Looks like it was laid out with Letraset and crepe tape direct on the board, then etched. No need to mess around with that expensive presensitised board, simply use the clean bare copper, tape and Dalo pen to fix the gaps, then etch. RIAA setting puts in a pre emphasis for cartridges, so you can sweep frequency with constant level setting, and see if the preamp for a phono stage is correct EQ wise, as it should give a flat response, while the actual signal applied to it varies in amplitude according to the standard. Used to set up phono amplifiers correctly, so you have a level response from the non linear response of the cartridge (most likely moving magnet, or moving coil, though those are pretty rare these days) and the recording chain. There is a reason that a lot of vinyl top end pressings gave info about the actual cutter used, and the EQ applied to it, so the serious audiophile could use the correct cartridge, mostly Shure and Denon, and needle combination to match what the recording engineer actually heard. And yes, that cutter used, all through the audio chain that drove the cutting stylus, LM741 opamps. Mostly because they were upgraded from valves to germanium transistors, then later to silicon transistors, then finally opamps to get lower noise and distortion.

I've got my XR2206s over 3MHz. The output is not quite crystal stable, but its not too bad considering the IC.

The Unit shown is mine. I always cut the linecord on all not testet units.
