DIY FLOATING STAIRS Install | Ep.11 Building Modern on a Budget
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
We are a husband and wife building a modern house by ourselves on a SUPER tight budget! In this episode, the two of us install a SUPER MODERN set of mono-stringer, steel, floating stairs. We ordered the FLIGHT stair system from Viewrail in a switchback configuration and frameless glass railing. The whole system was shipped to our house and we tackled the installation. I never thought we could install my DREAM STAIRS ourselves!
We also explain how much each step of building our modern house costs , where the money is coming from, and how much money we are saving by doing some of the work ourselves.

As an amateur with woodworker, i typically feel overpowered with the entire arrangement kzread.infoUgkxrYREG3-7f1Aqk9ams3ZESRNzGnfdUtyQ . Be that as it may, this arrangements drove me through with much clarity and effortlessness woodplans. Works i now work like a genius. That is great!
At the end of the build you should do a video talking about how much you’ve saved on companies sponsorships and how the ad revenue paid for a portion of the home ext. It’ll be a really cool video considering many channels don’t want to talk about the business side of KZread and how this series made you money towards the home.

Those are a work of art. Having already eyed up a small stair in my own home to DIY fabricate a similar style, I realise how much more involved it is than my initial thinking. That company really has thought of everything.
The stairs look incredible. I would have thought the price would have been higher. This has been a great series, thanks for sharing!

These stairs are incredible like the coolest office building ever!!!
Man those stairs are gorgeous! I loved seeing this process and how DIY-able it is. Also, super impressed with your make-shift handrail!
Those stairs are really well manufactured and your house is looking great. Also, fantastic that you get to build your home together. Well done guys!
Magnificent! So inspiring, thank you! I love that the wooden stairs have a little gap and don’t touch the walls.
These are so neat. I'm adding them into our plans now. Hopefully we will be ready to built 2021. Clearing the land this year and getting it ready for build on.
Damned!!👏👏 The stairs looks so light and amazing. This job need to be in a decoration magazine 👍 CONGRATULATIONS you two , there is not enough words 😍👍💪🤩 ❤️just WOW!! From a French🇫🇷fan
Absolute beautiful staircases, and we'll installed. The house is looking absolutely amazing. You should so proud of what you have both achieved. 👍👍👍👍👍 UK viewer . Xx
I’ve been waiting for another video from you guys. I was just thinking it should be time for an update of the house. Amazing staircase by the way. I love watching videos from you.
Looks great. I have been reading about floating stairs in the last 2 weeks and bingo you got them, loooks great
Agree with you, a stunning stair. Makes the stair well nice and full of light.
Amazing set of stairs. It really looks like a great product, very well built.
The stairs are DOPE! They completely go with the beautiful structure! I'M READY TO BUILD SOMETHING!😳
Wow those stairs are 😍 stunning. They are the perfect feature to those entry windows. Great job on the install.
Gotta say that Aluminum Railing Temp Cap is a real winner, looks great...
Those are fresh looking stairs! Thanks for sharing and your two did an amazing job. Keep up the fantastic work!
This is by far the most epic hair
That staircase looks awesome! I can see why you are so pleased with it!
A work that deserves respect and appreciation, all your love and appreciation
Finally you’re back, love these vids
That looks fantastic! Nice save on the top rail solution. It ended up looking nice!
Great Job, I am extremely happy with my DIY Viewrail install also. I Like your improvisation on the temp. handrail. Some tips for DIYers installing Viewrail. We had the mono stringer up for a while and no other place to get to the second floor on our small townhouse gut renovation. Use 2 x 12 temp treads with 2- 1/2 inch screws screwed down through the tread, through the holes in the stringer brackets into 3/4 plywood blocks. I had the top of the mono stringer bolted to the wood header and supported wood floor. No drywall up. I real carpenter happened to come see my project and he said I should put a piece of 3/4 plywood 1/2 inch smaller on all sides of the the header flange so i could slip my 5/8 drywall under the flange for a clean look. arrrgh. I unbolted the mono stringer, plugged the holes in the wood floor with dowels, installed the plywood spacer behind the header flange and reinstalled the mono stringer. It was worth it!
Awesome Stairs Elisha! I did not know this was even possible for the average DIYer. Your house is AWESOME!!!
Hats off to you for going with POPLAR! I love poplar and HATE people who just want to paint it. It’s the best when you can find greenish poplar with deep red/brown/black figuring through it!
Beautiful staircase! Glad it is yours to clean.
Guys, those stairs kick so much ass. Great build!
Great job on installing the stairs...and they look AWESOME.
What I want to know is, what goes under the stairs? Maybe some kind of low-maintenance indoor garden? Ya gotta put something down there. Since you can see right through. It could be a great feature to elevate the look of stairs even further.
Wow! You guys are doing a fantastic job. I've been watching your woodworking channel for quite some time now. I don't subscribe to either Instagram or Facebook so KZread is my source for watching your progress. I'm hoping that in the future that you will post more of your home building process on KZread that you've mentioned you've shared on your social media accounts. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
I found weird that there was a 4 months gap between the videos. We went from framing/fireplace to finish touches. I hope there was videos between that timeframe to see what was the process to build the house inside since it was the goal of this serie.
Just awesome. I'm following you for a really long time on KZread and I'm really happy for you. Congratulations for your new home. God bless you😊.
I can see you impulsively cleaning that glass to always keep it looking fantastic. Great video. Those stairs are awesome.
These stairs are amazing! It's starting to look like a house :)
I like it. Now with that sun light and space under the stairs put in a menagerie of plants, good for the house and you.
Looks beautiful! I want one of these stairs for my place in Upstate NY... Great video!
Awesome job on the floating stairs they really turned out nice :) Thank you for sharing the video with us!💖👌👍😎JP
Pretty fantastic work, guys!!! 😃 Really beautiful stairs! Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Wow that was a generous sponsorship that is awesome. The stairs were just beautiful tfs almost forgot I work in construction as a painter don't know a whole lot about wood but I think you did just fine picking the poplar
Inspiration in this video for sure! Glad I found another great building channel!
Holy crap, if I ever need a set of stairs, I hope I can remember and find this video and the link to Viewrail so they have a good reason for sponsoring y'all, amazing.
You and Bryce are awesome...great job! Nice stairs for sure.
new sub here! general contarctor and custom design builder for 20+ years....i have to say you guys are awesome...keep up the great attitude and even better work!
Your temp handrail solution is really nice. Way to be resourceful. Great job.
was about to go to bed but now I have to watch this :) glad you're back, how many more videos will there be in this series?
I think your choice of wood is just beautiful----you two did good especially the cost to you! :-)
I’m in love with your videos. Great job, your home is coming together and looks beautiful. Where I live this isn’t a house it’s a mansion hahaha but still very beautiful. Please keep posting. 👍🏼😊
These look like a million dollar, amazing result!! Great job 💪🏼
Simply gorgeous. You've come a long way from your first videos. It's been fun to watch.
Thank you for being very frank with the numbers. I will def check out view rails.
Very nice! Really happy to learn/know of Viewrailflight ! Thanks
Wow this is fantastic! Thank you for sharing! And your hair looks AMAZING! 😍
Absolutely beautiful. Worth the wait to see these amazing stairs complete! I better hope my wife doesn't see these or she's going to want them in our house!
Pretty much what I expected when they started this series: 1 - they will get a ton of views cause this series is great and special 2 - building a house with a 200k subs KZread channel will cut down the cost significantly cause you can get a 20k stair flight for, well not technically free cause there is work involved but still Not judging or anything, I love this series and in my opinion you should leverage that hard work you put into building this channel and get all the sponsoring you can. It’s just not this „we build on a budget and so can you“-series because we have to pay for everything (again, not judging, I‘m happy for you).
Very cool. I even like your makeshift railing.
Really like the look of floating stairs so had to watch this video. Used to stairs attached and cantilevered from the walls and then suspended from cables hanging from the ceiling on the other end. Your stairs look like they are semi-custom as they can use the brackets and other fittings over and over again. In the metal shops I have worked in, mass production techniques would have been used for these items. ( jigs, fixtures, robotic welders, or automatic welding machines that are custom made in the shop sometimes) The rest of the stairs are modified CAD drawings to meet your special needs with custom fabs. Its a great way to get a excellent product at a more affordable price. Good choice!
wow!! it´s a dream of my to have the chance to do some projekts like this. Have fun!
We put in a ViewRail Floating stair system in 2019 and absolutely love them. We did not do glass and chose a wood and tension wire railing It makes the house.

Incredible stairs! Great video
Absolutely stunning!
honestly, I was surprised how affordable this was towards the end. I was expecting around $30k+ Definitely will consider this on our next build. Thanks for showing this system off Pneumatic Addict!

Easily 30k without a sponsor.. Steel is cheap..
Are you guys still there? I'm comming back to check for a New video everytime i cant wait to see the amazing progress!❤
I'm a home handyman, but I was able to work with a local welder and glass company. With research and some thought, and a lot of time and care. I built a glass railed, 2 steel stingers , over 10 foot ,switch back rise. All in $5800.00. Sourcing the hardware was easy, as our cabinet maker pointed me in the right direction. It took 5 guys to move the main glass wall-about 300lbs. It looks beautiful, but I wouldn't do it again.
I am planning to do something similar in May, but I am shocked by your prices! Main beam - 7.4m 8mm thick costs approx £200, intelligent welder £250 per day (promised to complete the job in 2 days maximum), for esthetics, triangular steel supports goes for the laser cutting £300. Wood - have not decided yet, but probably ash, or poplar - that will be very expensive. And of course, a lot of the elbow grease to paint everything nicely + bits'n'bobs (bolts, varnish)... My total budget for the project is £5k, and I do not intend to even get close to that number.
Love the staircase! that looks to be low iron starphire glass, if so.. great choice against light colored walls! Howdy from Mesa, Az!
Loving your videos
Yes, yes, yes! Thanks 😊
It was so nice of you to give crafty panda your content. That was quick.
You could try something thin like schluter strip to go around the stair mount area at the top. or regular moulding.
Looks amazing! Great job!!!
Not something I expect to ever need, but I kinda wanna install a set cause it is so visually interesting and well engineered. I think the poplar was a good choice.
Great choice on the color.
Excellent video. Great story.
Love the stairs.
For something that showed up in 47 boxes and a crate, it seemed very easy to install. And when I say easy I mean uncomplicated. Despite how hard it was to lift things in place. I wish I had a place in my house to put something like that.
Those stairs look amazing. You've probably already thought about it but have you considered a poplar "kicker" at the top of the stairs, so the wall doesn't get scuffed and dinged.

Stunning dream home!
U are amazing woman...amazing tools and work 👌🏼💯
View rail makes awesome products I'm hoping to be able to use their glass rail for my house if the budget works.
What people don't realize is that you will be living there long term. What will be awesome is 10-15 years from now, after your kids have went up and down them a million times, that poplar will have so much character!
Spectacular!
Espectacular !!!!
I was looking forward to your next video
