DIY Floating Bowl Water Drum Set

This video sounds best with headphones. The floating bowls produce a deep, resonant tone. Here it's played by my wife pinky! The red bowl is kind of hard to hear but it is so deep and awesome sounding IRL.
My instrument is based on the floating calabash (gourd) water drum known as the "Askalabo" to the Tuareg nomad musicians of northwest Africa.
A similar instrument is also played by the Yaqui: native American people of Arizona and Indigenous people of Sonora, Mexico. This instrument is called "Baa Wehai".

I built my drum set for around $40. The bowls are from thrift stores. They are drilled and attached with rubber bands to a board I glued down to the bottom of the kiddie pool I got a home depot for $13. If you are interested I will make a video about how to make it. It could be a fun summer project! :)
Have fun! ~Andrew
