Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Learn how to make a poncho/DIY fleece cape with fring in today’s step by step sewing tutorial - no pattern needed! This easy DIY poncho is super cozy and it’s the perfect accessory to make for fall and winter. You can make a version of this with or without a sewing machine, so whatever your ability or supplies, you can have a similar fringe cape to wrap up in!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
-1 2/3 yards of fleece fabric (it needs to be fleece or another similar fabric that doesn’t fray)
-A closure of your choice - this is the style I used but search “Frog Closure” on Amazon for so many awesome styles: amzn.to/3ekwy3r *
-A 3 yard package of ½ inch wide double fold bias tape (optional, can be skipped if you don’t have a sewing machine) - here’s what I usually use: amzn.to/326F4Oy *
-Sewing machine (optional) - this is mine: amzn.to/2NUixy3 *
-Scissors - this is a great affordable pack I’ve used for years: amzn.to/2NMnZBl *
-Hand sewing needle
-Thread - this is my favorite: amzn.to/3eCdCfa *
-Tape measure
-Straight pins
-Chalk
-A ruler or straight edge
-Rotary cutter and mat (optional, but it makes it so easy to cut out straight lines like this large square!) - amzn.to/2EJZ8hf *

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
In this beginner sewing project you’ll learn all the steps of cutting and stitching an easy fleece cape. I’ll show you how to cut it out; how to make a neckhole; how to use bias tape to finish the edges; how to sew a frog closure on; and how to cut fringe. I show you how to make a poncho from fleece fabric I bought from the fabric store but you could also definitely learn how to make a poncho with a blanket with this same tutorial - just make sure the blanket won’t fray and you’ll be good to go! This plaid buckle front poncho is one of my favorite sewing projects for beginners because it can be made with or without the bias tape depending on what you’re comfortable with, and there’s a way to make this without a sewing machine too! If you skip the bias tape, this will become a no sew poncho, other than hand sewing the clasp on which is super simple!

Thank you so much for watching! Every time I look in an online store I see a fringe poncho or fringe cape so I was inspired by this fall/winter 2020 trend to make my own. It’s been a while since I’ve made a tutorial but I’m excited to get back into it so I hope you enjoy learning how to make a fleece cape! This will be a great tutorial for all skill levels because you can make it with or without bias tape and with or without a sewing machine. Happy sewing!
XO, Monika

I’m trying to figure that out too. On the positive side she may have gotten a sewing business or may be busy venturing into sewing ventures. On a negative side, she may have lost someone near and dear to herself and is grieving and worst case scenario she herself has left the planet🥺😢, but I’d think one of her family members or friends would post something.
Hi Monica I pray all is well with you and yours. Can you please come back and do a video on how to make a double door draft blocker wirh pool noodles for the bottom of the door to stop drafts coming in through bottom of door please.
Please make more tutorials, we all love them!
One of the best sewing tutorials I’ve ever seen. ❤
Hi Monika! Your description of how to attach the bias tape is the clearest I have EVER seen, thank you so much! I have always had a problem with applying bias tape to garments - I always seem to miss sections on the back when I am top stitching the tape down - I can see where I have gone wrong in the past with your valuable tutorial! The cape looks so cosy and warm! Great videos as always. TFS , take care lovely girl. 👍💖💖💖

Aw that's so great to hear, thanks Hazel!!! I used to just wrap the bias tape around and sew it down in one shot (I've done that in a couple older tutorials that I want to update now with this method) but I also sometimes miss a section, so I started experimenting and doing it this way and I feel like it always turns out a lot better looking for me 😃 I'm glad it was helpful for you too! As always thank you so much for watching! 💕

Could you possibly do a video on how to sew a milkmaid top? I have been looking everywhere on KZread and I can’t find a video that I like and can follow easily. You’re sewing videos are my favorite on YT because the step by step instructions are clear and very easy to follow. As I’m new to sewing those elements are very important for me to be able to follow along and your videos check all those boxes.
Yes! I’ve been trying to think of a design to make one of these for my sister. This is it! Thank you for the clear instruction!
Explain very well step by step 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing your talents with this newbie. Your tutorial is wonderful, especially for those of us who are new at sewing. I am a little nervous sewing the bias tape but I am going to practice before I sew it on my project. Thank you again. I can't wait for more tutorials.

I love your videos! Can you please make a video about where to get fabrics online? I saw your video about one place that you get them, is that the only place you get them from? I am nervous about buying fabric without actually seeing or feeling it first and would love some tips.

Thank you so much for watching my channel! This is gonna be a really long response, but I'll offer up what advice I can. I have purchased fabric online from a few fabric stores, but LA Finch is where I shop the most because I've had the best experience with them. I do wanna try out a couple of other online fabric stores when I have the money to buy more fabric (I actually recently bought some from LA Finch so I gotta wait a little while before I buy more LOL!) so I can have several stores to recommend, but for now based on my personal experience LA Finch has been the store I'm most familiar with and I'm always happy with the quality fabric for the price. In full disclosure I did one sponsored video with them a couple of months ago and they gifted me fabric once last fall, but I've shopped with them for years before I ever did any collabs with them so my experiences with them are honest as a customer before they were ever aware I had a KZread channel or anything. I've also purchased swimsuit fabric from The Fabric Fairy a couple of times and felt like they had good quality fabric too! To be honest, shopping online was hard for me at first because I also love seeing and feeling fabrics, but now because of the pandemic I'm dong all my shopping online. It's been a bit of trial and error for me learning what types of fabrics are what, what types I like to sew with the most, and there's still a lot I don't know by name or don't know what they are until I get them. I have learned the names of several fabrics that I prefer to sew with (for example ITY knit is a super smooth feeling knit that I love making wrap dresses and skater dresses out of, it feels almost like bathing suit fabric in that it's quite smooth, but it's not as thick as bathing suit fabric; double brushed knit is my favorite for sewing leggings because it's super soft, stretchy, and comfortable; crinkle rayon is a lightweight flowy nonstretch fabric that I've loved making maxi wrap skirts, tiered skirts, and off the shoulder top projects with). I like small fabric stores like LA Finch (and I see this on other small stores that I want to try out too) because they describe what the fabric feels like and what projects it works best for, so I find that really helpful when shopping especially if I don't know what a fabric is. I know a lot of small fabric stores also encourage you to email or message them if you do have questions. Some stores even offer swatches, although I think you usually have to pay for them or at least pay shipping probably - I've never gotten swatches but I think it might be helpful if I was going to need a lot of a certain type of fabric. Another thing I find helpful is to follow the stores on Instagram because smaller shops tend to post projects people make from their fabric a lot, which helps me to see what other people have made so I know how the fabric looks sewn up and what types of projects people have made with them. I hope that helps a little, I know it's definitely trial and error and it's hard not being able to go in stores, but hopefully with time you'll get the hang of it and see what fabrics you like the most! Oh and also check out the end of bolt/remnant sections on their sites because I've gotten really great deals on fabric that way and I've been able to try out new fabrics I wasn't familiar with because they were so discounted, so I wasn't as afraid to spend the money on them without knowing what they were.

This is beautiful! I would love to make these but how much fabric would I need if the size I’m making it for is a 3XL?!?
@ComicatCreations
3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Honestly I think this size would be pretty standard one size fits all because it is so big and flowy, but if you still wanted it to be a bit wider from side to side, you could always cut it 68" wide by 58" long... this would keep the cape the same length, but add about 5" on both sides if you do want it to be wider. It would still be easy to trim down the sides after cutting it out if you felt like it was a bit too big!
It's been so long since we've seen you on KZread. I hope everything is ok Monika. Lee xx
