DIY Fireplace Remodel Pt 3: Custom Mantle Build
This is the third part of the living room fireplace remodel. In this video, I construct a mantle out of birch wood, pairing together boards to make wider planks. I show you the entire build process up to the point of being ready for stain. Enjoy!

Bro thank you!! Not only for the video and explanation, but also showing your mess ups. That is huge!
It's a lovely fireplace. 😍, nice flame, heat, great quality. It seemed to go up easily ( I didn't put it up). The touch screen is a nice feature as well.
Beautiful work and loving how you go about your work letting nothing slip by............. Goegeous
Watching some of your older videos. Love the Fantasmic! hoodie. I miss the show. The only consolation I have is I watched it on the last night before Disneyland was supposed to be closed for 3 weeks back 9 months ago.
Dealt with that mixup gluing like a pro. Jumped right in to fix it and you saved the day!
Awesome work part 1,2, and 3!
That’s a really nice jacket. I guess it’s one of the perks of working on the show.
I can't believe you were nervous about doing this when you have this level of skill. Love the soft close feature.
Lol im binge watching these series of yours. And this one is the FIRST time actually you speak IN the camera.
Good stuff Ben! Your videos are awesome.
Great video (the whole remodel actually). Tip for avoiding cupped boards when glueing up (other than clamping it flat with other boards) is to alternate the clamps - 1 above, 1 below - that way they work against each other and it will be less likely to cup.
Nice! I like the cat shelves too.
Finally there's a part 3
Talented Man.
I loved your vids. there always awesome!
These videos are so interesting!!
Doing this at my mums place. Thank you.
Wifey must be so happy!!!
Nice job bro.
Dude, some push sticks would be a good thing to have and use.
I love how you play with the cat throughout the process because that is literally what all people do to there cat lmao toss it around pick it up and carry it lmfaoii
I live your videos
I would watch those 13 hours
Somebody get this kid a workbench/assembly table already!
F$%% and sh$% are the most useful tools of any carpenter 🤠👍
Me looking for videos and finding this one. "Why do I feel like I went to high school with this guy...?" Facebook searches. "Oh because I did. Neat."
Your videos are awesome. What is your backing soundtrack as I like it, good thinking music!
There have been so many times where i've realized i totally messed something up after a glue up. I totally felt your pain and said "oh no" when you noticed it. lol
I would like to see the Outside a 360* of your house!!
You need to get a card scraper for the squeezed out glue.
Floating cat shelves. Now that's something I never thought I needed until now. 🤷

I need to do this for my TV sound bar. Can you post up a link to the hinges you used?
Hi, could you explain the bow part. I just don't know the chiming worked to flatten it. Thanks again. Great video
I can’t wait to do this to my fireplace! By the way, you look so young! Where did you learn to do all your woodworking skills???
That’s an awesome little table saw! What table saw exactly is that? Love that it’s portable
good stuff, I would like to one of this, do you have any measurements of it

Great work. Do you have a materials list?
Hopefully you can post earlier cause your vids are awesome
I subscribed because you made a mistake and kept it in the final cut.

Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes and hopefully others can learn from mine. That’s why I include them.
👌
Hey Ben, can you please continue on your pinball machine?
Is Ryobi one of your sponsors? Great looking fireplace.
Love the hidden console idea. Do you have to play with it open so the bluetooth controllers can work fully well? Say PS4.
Brooooooooo which bit did you use for router to create the door grabs? I’m working on this now
is there enough room for the TV?
Wonder how much someone would charge to do this? Love it but I do t have the skill set.
Do you find the finger grips for the door worked well or could you have gone without?

They work great. I recommend having them or having something
Hi Ben, great work on this mantel. I love it. Question: do you make these for other people? Do you build and sell? 😀

@@BenTardif Thanks for the response. I figured that, but I at least had to ask. ☺️ I’ll try my luck at my own DYI mantel!! 😱😁
I kept on replaying the part where you spoke in front of the camera. Your eyes and lips are 😍😍😍 lol
Ben you do great work! But why sir do you not lift the board and finish the cut on your miter saw? Instead of flipping it over. Said with care and not with spite or an attitude LOL!
Did you use 1/2 boards or 3/4? Great job on the build

Can you make me one !! Lol
How did you like using the birch for the mantle? I'm between birch and white oak for a mantle rn

I made one of my first pieces of furniture out of birch and just stuck with it through this mantle project. It takes the stain well and is durable. It all just depends on what you want your final product to look like.
I only have 4 clamps in my shop I gotta wait for my dad to bring some home after a little while after a work job and when his boss buys clamps my dad just takes them after a while because his boss is rude and kinda does the same thing in a way so just gotta wait for more or buy some but he never wants to go anywhere to get anything so well I’m just gonna wait keep up the work
Actually that top piece looked really nice before you cut it down. Not that the final product wasnt nice!
Couldn't have done it without Inspector Gus
Medidas de los muebles
I built a similar mantle in my man cave but after seeing yours I'm not sure if I want to curse myself out or cry....seriously, I thought I did a good job and now I want to jump off a cliff....
where did you get that elephant...

You’ll never have enough clamps
We would live to buy one from you. How much would you charge to do this?
Can you make me a mantel?
Two ideas: 1. You need to make a workstation so you’re not always on the floor lol 2. It’s time to start trusting your circular saw or invest in a track saw. :)
Dude what's up with Your fireplace hearth, It just cuts off no flow badge job need to fix

Old f'arts rule ? Lew Stinkin bad'ges I believe they ( ol'timers ) call Joe Biden, "Jess" i.e. Jester family friend !
I still don’t see why he didn’t just buy a wider board of course they are at any big box store, instead of glue them together.

Sometimes you just can't find them that wide. I am making a mantel that will measure 17 inches deep and you just can't find wood that are that wide . The mantel will be just over 8 feet long, so I couldn't find it in that size.
Go to woodprix if you'd like to know how to make it easy. Good solution for every woodworker.
Dude, tilt up the front of the piece your cutting. No need to flip it.
