DIY Fingerprint Analysis - Indy Labs #33 (At Home DIY Science)

Indy Labs - We Put The Science In Your Hands
Is it true that your fingerprints are like nobody else's? Yes and no. While no two fingerprints are exactly alike, they will still likely fall into a few major categories, and this Indy Labs episode will help you learn about them with a little dactylography! Here's a sure fire way to easily record and study your own fingerprints and see what makes them unique! And if you already love the science of Forensics, this one's for you!
The Indy Labs series focuses on at home science experiments that are low cost and (usually) easy to do, but still drive the science concepts home.
Some science videos show you how to do something cool, but explain very little of it. Others explain concepts, but are very passive and give the viewer little to actually do. With Indy Labs, we put the science in your hands, teaching you concepts, but at the same time, giving you an experiment to try on your own!
If you try the lab, please leave a comment and let us know how it went Also, snap some photos of YOUR at home trials for this or any of the Indy Labs experiments, and upload them to Twitter and/or Instagram. Use #IndyLabs so we can all see your results!
Good luck, Indy Labbers! Subscribe and join our community today!

Awesome! It was actually my grandfather who taught me this one when I was about 7 or 8 years old. It wasn't until I became a school teacher and worked with Forensics for Science Olympiad that I found out that no, this wasn't a technique that everyone knew about with the pencil lead. My students had never heard of it. So, I knew it was time to make a video about it! Thanks for continuing to check these Indy Labs out and find uses for them. Much appreciated!

Love that you're channel is growing, Do you have any subscriber goal in mind, like how many you want? Great video, it was really liked and thought it was cool getting my finger prints scanned at the army recruiting center, to of course check my background. Its a good thing i have a clean record haha

Not sure that there's a goal. I want to make videos that I know a younger version of myself would have enjoyed. Whomever wishes to come along for that ride is more than welcome to. I could try to make videos that many will like, or, I could just be me and see who likes that. Whether I get to 10,000 subscribers, or if I had 1,000, or just 100, however many are into these videos are obviously fans of science (and perhaps new fans) and that what I enjoy. If there's a goal, it's not a specific number. It's just having the ability to promote science and science literacy, in this case, through KZread.

Seems to be, you met my mother. I hope you enjoyed what it was she decided to show you. This DIY way of collecting fingerprints was something my grandfather showed me how to do back when I was 7 or 8 years old. Back then, it blew my mind. Hope you have fun with it!
