DIY FAUX FUR COAT | sew&tell
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hey everyone!
I made this faux fur coat using a jacket from a friends as the base (thanks ben). Got this nice plushie fabric from Joann and the lining from Walmart. So happy to have this puffy jacket for the cold weather! Recreating something you already own can be easier than you think. If you try it out please tell me how it goes. You can send pics to my email at linda.sewtell@gmail.com or tag me on insta @_linhda :)
xo,
Linda

omg thank you for this!!! this is the most helpful jacket tutorial i've seen so far. i'll be sure to try this!
You gotta be careful around everyone these days. I was walking down the street yesterday and a guy walked towards me and pulled out scissors. I'm sooooo happy I was agile enough to reach into my pocket and pull out a rock. Cus if I had pulled out paper, I would have lost.

Absolutely stunningly made, my only comment would be to have the back fur panel cut on fold so it doesn't make a line on the fur, but if you are low on fur, it's really not the end of the world. Love you pattern making illustrations :)
@alyxharper6642
Жыл бұрын
in my experience you want to cut faux fur as a single flat panel, not on a fold

Love how simple your kept the tutorial. Only comment I have is the back part of fur I would have drawn one piece and cut it out as one. Now the coat is pulling a bit up in the middle and you have a stripe of big fur in the middle when you sit down. So one back piece of fur would be cleaner and more comfortable. But how you explain everything is really well done.
Great tutorial. Does the jacket hem and sleeve hem need to be hand felled or can it be just tacked at the seams by machine.
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I’m a beginner and it’s very easy to follow, quick Q: how many yards of fabric did u use?
Mega cute
This is Great thank you! Do you know how much fabric you used ? What’s the min I could buy, I wanna make a couple of these but this type of material is kinda pricey !
Looks great! I was wondering how much fabric did you order to make this?

Wonderful diy... Dear i am definitely going to do this.... But think you should put button on the front jst for decor...... Wow😍 luv from india
Beautiful job and you clearly have great sewing skills and experience. My only question: was a center back seam really necessary? I know some jackets have shaping at the center back seam but yours appears to a a straight seam. Last faux fur jacket I did, I eliminated the center back seam allowance from the pattern. But still, your finished jacket is crazy clean looking and well made. Brava!

Thanks Kevin! and good call, in this case it actually wasn't. I was working with less fabric at first so I wanted the separate pieces incase I needed to play tetris with the pattern to get everything to fit haha but i ended up getting more fabric anyways and didn't need to
I got what you said.. I just need to replay it in slow mo ❣

Looks great ! What type of machine do u have and also do u use any kind of special needles for the fur while sewing
@sewtell
6 жыл бұрын
Hey Danielle ! this was my brother se400 machine and I used the regular needle and it worked just fine. If your fur has a lot of stretch i might recommend a ball point needle used for knits.
do we need different lining? can i just have fur inside too?
this is perfect for my ice bear (from we bare bears) cosplay!!! thank you 🥰🥰

Hi! Just curious - how much fabric did you get?
OMG I love this!! 😍😍 how much yards of fabric did you use?
@sewtell
6 жыл бұрын
oh no sorry i forgot to list it! but i believe it was 3 yards! but if you are iffy always get a little more than you need :)
It would be so helpful if u could write down the pattern pieces with numbers (x2, x1..etc) in your description box for all your work! Love the jacket tho❤️😭
@sewtell

awww thanks for the tip Ill try to add that in when i get the chance :)
What kind of fabric did you use for lining? My daughter would like. Buttons on this jacket. I can’t think of a way to do it. Any suggestions anyone?
Hello! I love this coat! I am here to see if you would possibly be able to go more in depth on how you’re sewing in the pockets? Like when you’re sewing them on initially, are you closing up where your hands would go and then around them? I may be thinking too hard about this! Thank you (:
@sewtell
3 жыл бұрын
thank you!! and I am glad you asked :) i love pockets in clothing but sometimes they mess with my head too haha but you got it right !! so for this one i attached one side of the pocket lining to one side of the coat (repeat for other side) thennnn when you lay the coat pieces right side to right side, you want to sew down the coat seam, around the curve of the pocket lining and then down the rest of the coat seam. I hope that makes sense!! feel free to dm me on instagram if you need more help :) I can draw out something for you there if need
Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question... I'm trying to figure out what the purpose of the back facing is if you already have a hood on the coat?
@guthriekj
5 жыл бұрын
Another question.. Why do you choose to have 2 back pieces that you sew together instead of cutting it out on a fold and having the back as 1 piece?
Love it!! I have a fuzzy blanket I'd want to try this with- do you think it'd work?
@sewtell

How many yards of fur did you end up using?
@sewtell
6 жыл бұрын
Oh no cant believe i forgot to write that down ! i believe it was around 3.5 yards! but also depends on the size of your jacket :)
πολυ ωραια
Would I be able to just cut out the whole back piece as one instead of two? Would it make a big difference? I just don’t want to see the seam in the back
@sewtell
5 жыл бұрын
yess you can! i originally did this to save space on the fabric but i had to buy more fabric anyways so the 1 piece wouldve been better!

Would this design work if I want to make reversible jackets that have unique patterns on the inside?
@sewtell
4 жыл бұрын
Hmm the only part i would be worried about is how the jacket would look reversed. Im afraid that it might be bulgy in certain area because of the fur. If you are ok with that I would try it out :) its always nice to have a pop lining anyways

@@sewtell Hey! Thanks for getting back to me! I understand what you mean, it would bulge along certain seams. Would you have a resource you know of that would teach me how to make a reversible faux fur coat? I feel like I have been scouring the internet and I am lost!
