DIY Fail, I'm Humbled. Organizing Under The Stairs Storage, Drink Drawers, Corner Cabinets, Junk
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hey party people! Thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share with you this DIY fail. semi fail, idk what to call it. waste of time?! haha I needed to organize under the stairs storage and I decided to use this trofast system from IKEA which. is great because it has a lot of drawers! then I got to organizing and decluttering the corner cabinet in my kitchen! It was housing all of the seasonal stuff from birthday parties, fall get togethers, and thanksgiving along with christmas stuff basically way too many things were shoved in that cabinet and I needed to declutter and organize it. It looks and feels much better now! Next was my junk drawers - two of them. I made one into a drinks drawer instead of a coffee station or tea drawer etc. I made a water drawer because that's on brand for me and I've been loving adding things to my water lately and the other junk drawer is a true junk drawer. it's organized now but still full of random bits and bobs and basically junk.
Hope this gave you some inspiration to do something around your house!
Kim!

I am a Professional Organizer and I tell my clients that everyone (including myself) needs to channel their inner Scarlett O’Hara and have a “I am not going to think about this today, I am going to think about it tomorrow” spot in their house. Then when that spot is overflowing, “it’s tomorrow” and you have to deal with it. It gives you grace in the moment.

Kim, you can use a needle to pierce the bubbles, then smooth it out. Wallpaper tip, before putting a hole in the wallpaper to hang something, once you know where said hole will be, use a blade to make an X in the wallpaper and peel up the X then make the hole. This way if you decide to take that nail out you'll be able to press the wallpaper over the hole and wallah no hole in the wallpaper. I love wallpapering.. I love the coral paper you got. You did a great job. I've patch pieces of wallpaper myself, like hey if a dressers going to hide it who cares, not me. Have a blessed day. 😊

I would cut a piece of the highest part of the wallpaper to cover up the spot that is missing. The eye will constantly go to the piece that’s missing but not to the very top of that wall.
When you said wallpaper I knew the train wreck that was to come. 😂😂😂
It’s like having a dad/ granddad next door with all the tools and willingness to help! If everyone were so lucky!
Good morning Kim❤️✨ you get an A+ for effort!!! For your red bins what I would recommend is getting some posterboard from the dollar tree and cutting them to size so that they fit in front of your stuff so that you can’t see through the mesh! XOXO

WOW, loved watching you little "helper" while you were putting it together. So real life. I remember those days. I'm a great grandmother, but I remember once when I was painting, I left my paint pan in the bathroom, taking a break, before I did touch up, while my granddaughter was sleeping. When I came back upstairs a few minutes later, she was hand print painting all over my bathroom and furniture.....OHMYLANTA....DIY at its best!! LOL!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for sharing the most relatable wall paper experience lol
Gotta say, watching Wolfgang growing up is really special to see. He is so sweet and full of love for his mom.

Hi Kim! From seeing and talking to my wall paper guy when he was doing my little one’s bedroom on an old London Victorian house he said always start in the middle of the wall and work yourself outwards as the lines are never straight! And even so still if I need to wall paper something else I will still call them 😂
What I remember from wallpaper hanging is that you make a plumb line with chalk and a string and put the wallpaper against that edge, which will be square and true. Many walls are crooked, and that's why you do it, rather than starting in a corner which is strangely likely to be wonky. Also, it would like fine where you pierced it together, but there is a white stripe at the top of one of the pieces that needed to be cut off to create continuity. However, once you put the drawers in......perfection!! And your kitchen organization looks great! You must be tired, but you did a ton of work that will serve you well! Enjoy some R&R if you can find any time to do so!
@sandrapride1046

Yes, I was going to say this, don’t start at a corner. The plumb line is important, very few walls are straight.
Oh my gosh, Wolfgang looks like such a little gentleman in his sweater helping you build that storage shelf.

Dear Kim- fold those grocery bags and place in an open one until there is no room then keep folding and storing until you’re done- then out them in the back of your vehicle and Alex’s so you always have the bags when you go shopping- I had to keep buying bags because I would forget to grab the ones from the coat closet and accumulated way too many bags and shared with family- take the time to fold, store and walk out to the vehicles, it will help with that “there’s too much stuff in here” feeling when you open that door! And I love the wallpaper in that closet, something bold and colorful in a small, not often seen area that makes you smile when you open the door!
For the bins, if you don’t want to see through them, you could use white or red cardstock to cut to size and slide right inside the front to make it solid
The shopping bags I fold them up, then fold in half. Fold them the same way you fold Christmas bags. On the pleats.. After you fold them they all fit in one single bag. Wish I could show you a photo of how I do it. I have different size bags. After they are all folded I can place them in the smallest bag. Its neat and tidy and doesn't take up a lot of space. Easy to grab and go.

I do the same. All my bags fit into two others and sit in the boot of my car or behind my driver's seat. Mind you, my husband and my adult daughter don't come shopping with me.

I love your "water" drawer. I don't think it is a waste of space. It will make your life easier to just pull out the drawer and grab a packet to put in your water instead of having to fight with a box every time. I am all for it. Maybe put a pair of scissors in there as well if you need them to cut the packets open, then you don't even have to walk to your junk drawer for them. You are making your time and effort more efficient. Work smarter, not harder as they say. For my corner cabinet, I ended up putting 2 lazy susans on the bottom shelf and that is where I have all of my baking items. Things like cinnamon, vanilla, baking soda and powder, cupcake liners, etc. Then I moved my middle shelf lower since I am short and added my mixing bowl and measuring cups. I have a second cabinet that I use the bottom shelf for our bread and the upper shelves are just seasonal items. Definitely can be a struggle to keep them tidy so I just have to limit what I put in them. The wall paper looks great as well. Good job!!!

Scissors in that drawer is a great idea. Keep them where you use them.
I think you're doing great for your first go. I am a professional organizer, and my tips are first declutter and only put in that area what you want. How you would figure that out is to ask yourself, "If i need it, where would i look for it?" That is the correct spot for you. The two biggest things are to label everything. It helps the whole family know where things go. The second is putting things away should be just as easy to put away as to take it out. As for wallpaper, it is tricky, especially patterned. You usually have to order 30-40% more to get patterns to line up properly. Love your personality and looking forward to your next video
That closet is fancy imperfection. I dig it
As a mom I can relate to this video so much! Some days are better than others! Hang in there Kim, you are doing a great job!!🎉
Kim you remind me of me! ❤ I finally gave up on the idea that there are proper spaces for things. For example: my kitchen cabinets are for kitchen gadgets, plates, bowls etc. I have made a whole corner of my kitchen as the baking section. I store ALL the items I use to bake with all together. The spots in the pantry that are opened up from me moving the baking items can hold the odds and ends from the kitchen cabinets that I use only occasionally. It’s been so nice! I am able to bake without moving my feet. No more running all over the place to get things I need. Haha! I love that you made that drink drawer. It’s nice to have things all together like that. You are doing a great job, momma!
Love the wallpaper! You got so much work done! What a relatable video. Haven't we all felt the 'meh'? It's a journey, not a destination. ❤

Kim, what you see as failure, or disappointing results look dang good to me! I love the wallpaper and how the color of the bins compliment it! It’s gorgeous! Your cabinet and drawer reorganization is done! Great job. It hurts my heart to hear you “dis” yourself for not having a spotless house with no dirty laundry at the end of the day. You prepare healthy meals for your tribe every day💕💕💕. You are my lady across the room and I commend you for your energetic and cheerful videos. Thanks for talking to me and making me laugh every day❤️. Keep on. Your wonderful kids are the product of great mothering skills I wish more women had. Love you and look forward to each post👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I want to squeeze Wolfgang through the screen. And him last time standing in the fridge..cuteness overload ❤❤❤❤❤
When you watch KZread videos of putting peel and stick wallpaper up, it looks sooooOoo easy, but it’s NOT!!! It’s so hard! Your room turned out great!! Nice job! 🎉👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hey, Kim a lot of work!!!! You did a GREAT job! This made me think about your old spice cabinet and how many times you organised and they would still, fall on you! I have to laugh,or I will cry because mine still do! Be so thankful, I have 3 whole drawers in my kitchen, it’s a nightmare! Also, I bought furniture for my daughter’s bedroom at IKEA years ago. Trundle day bed, chest, and a night table to match! I hired the contracted IKEA workers to put it all together! WOW! What a blessing it turned out to be, I swear there were about 700 pieces, not exaggerating at all! It took two workers about 6 hours to put it all together, and I didn’t pay by the hour! I thought it would never come together at the end! It looked beautiful for a couple of years and then the drawers on the chest started breaking! I know you have a few items you have bought from there and yours seem to be great! Never, again will I purchase there furniture because it can’t be fixed! I guess I will have to go thrifting to find another chest, that won’t match! But, I’m so 😊 for you that things are coming along in your new house and hopefully 🙏 your addition will be ready soon!! God bless
That you for keeping it real, Kim. This is my second time watching this because now I am tackling my chaos corners!
You are brave. I don’t have the nerve to do wallpaper. You did great. Probably took a few years off your life but you did it.
He is so cute running around “helping”.

Thank you for sharing I was cleaning out my closet as I was watching you clean. I feel better knowing I'm not alone in the struggle of messes with kids that make more messes for us to clean up.
Kim, I love that wallpaper! It's so fun and such happy colors. For your grocery bags. You can keep anything, you just can't keep everything! Take ONE container (drawer/tote etc.) and fill it with your favorite bags. Let the rest go. As you find a new bag that you love, take one out of the container and put in your donate box, to make room for the new one. This way you get to keep your favorites, but it's a manageable amount. :) You are definitely a LADYBUG, just like me. We like hidden, simple organization. Now, you know that you need opaque containers. It's all part of the learning curve. You're doing an amazing job with being a mom and just living your best life!!! Love your videos! ❤❤❤

I've been hanging wallpaper for over 20 years - wish I lived closer... I would of done it for you free of charge! Love the vibe for your under-the-stairs closet! Keep up the good work Kim!!!
Kim, the closet under the stairs looks great. The bins & the wallpaper color beautiful. Order one more roll of wallpaper & call it a success. The drawers another success, it all turned out great. I love watching you& your videos.
I love grocery bags too! I got a soft sided cooler and fold all the grocery bags in it . Then its all together and neat, grab and go! Love watching you organize, come help me do mine!!!
This is so relatable! 😂😂😂 The wallpaper in the closet livens up the space and like you said, nobody sees it anyway and plus it makes you happy. It is “good enough” 🤣🤣☺️ Love watching your videos! ❤
I know that a million people can relate to this. I have these days constantly and I feel so useless and worthless. Then we overcome the crap and can see what we have actually accomplished. I have to do small projects at a time. I even have to do them in spurts in order to not lose my mind. You did so well and I appreciate the realism.
that third section of wall paper reminded me of when youre wrapping xmas presents and all you have left is scraps and you're trying your best to make it look nice but really it's just wrapped with garbage lol. from far away it looks great though, so good job!
I love how you barely had the treats put down and Wentworth swooped in...LOL!🤣
Kim, your energy motivates me! The expectation versus reality is SO relatable. Thank you for sharing your reorganizing with us. As always, I enjoyed and loved it! ❤
Kim , you are the real deal. A Mom in charge of her home. One drawer at a time. God bless you and your family.❤❤❤
Not a waste of space!!! That is what you need and use and you DESERVE a nice drawer just for you!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
"Problem 758"............ha ha ha ha ha ha ha You make me laugh SO much!!! Love you girl Arlene
You are doing a great job! I completely understand. It feels like when I try to organize my room it goes from one corner to the other. Lol I’ve even had help going through my clothes and now going through books. It’s hard dealing with chronic pain. I enjoy your videos 🙂
I like the closet! The orange coral pattern is so pretty and fresh! Love the matching orange drawers.
As a single mum i feel this everytime i have to fix something...and yes i always end up saying"good enough"!
I've never watched decluttering videos. I love organizing. But when it's done it's a matter of keeping it that way .ugh...i remember..But for me the solution starts in the very beginning...BEFORE any stuff actually enters the home. I think I've had to keep life simple like that for my own sanity because we had 3 kids and always lived in small homes. Another tip that works for me is...i get overwhelmed if things become disorganized in a big way.. so i have to keep the jobs small. take a couple minutes to straighten up..often ...5 min. To put something back etc.. i do that every time i walk into a room or open a closet etc... always take something out or bring something back..i never went empty handed😅😅 now i have an empty nest and it's just not the same...i miss those days...i absolutely love your videos.. so entertaining... to watch you bring so much heart and fun to the mundane everyday chores of a housewife...keep up the good work.. you are awesome...❤ my first time commenting.
I love you for trying it. Nobody is born a DIYer. They see someeone do it, they have enough confidence to try. Then they try again and again until they are SKILLED ✨ Respect. Thanks for keeping it real Kim.
This was a fun and relatable video. Thanks for being so real !! I feel like this all the time !! You’re an amazing mom and wife and it’s totally understandable that things pile up and need decluttering. Keep making us laugh and smile !!😊 🙌

Girl,I feel ya! The one and only time I tried wallpaper my husband and i almost got divorced over it! Lol
For the bins that are a bit clear, you could get some white posterboard and put it inside the front. It’s not fancy, but I did that with my sterilite bins back in college.
I think your closet looks amazing! You have inspired me to wallpaper a closet. Never would have thought of that. You did a good job. Wallpapering is not easy. Hope it brings you joy! It makes me smile!

Just a thought for your little closet space you are probably going to have to go and buy a little bit more paper to take care of that square here is my thought. What if you picked up enough paper to put a cute little square on the front of each one of those drawers that are in your shelving unit that way you wouldn’t be able to see in and it would look really cute. Just a thought! Good job though ! At a girl !!!!
Hi Kim, you have a daughter who is an Artist! Eleanor can try to copy the Design of the wallpaper on matching white paper and fill the empty spot. I think it came out really nice and even though you can see inside the bins it looks very organized and fun at the same time. Give yourself some credit!
Oh Kim, it looks FABULOUS! And Harry Potter would like his room back! 🤓⚡️🖤✨
I can soooo relate to the mess of organizing. I've been doing a deep dive into decluttering. One thing I've loved is the Take Your House Back Challenge. I love all the creators: Dana K White, Clutterbug, and Minimal Mom. Dana K White has a 5 step No Mess decluttering method. It really works! It's all about finding homes for everything and TAKING IT THERE NOW, and letting the container decide how much you have room for. Clutterbug also really focuses on decluttering BEFORE organizing. Keep up the good work! You're just over there doing the best you can (as you always say)!😉 Maybe a collab with Clutterbug or Dana K White or Minimal Mom would be fun?

I am doing the challenge also. I have such a mess but I am going to take back my house a little at a time!!
I think you did a good job with the wall paper. You're giving me ideas for my other closet with the drawers.
Thank you for showing that fails happen in DIY! I once decided to paint a small bathroom myself after watching lots of youtube videos. Short story long, I ended up in tears and had to pay someone $400 to fix it.
Thank you for making this video for those of us who are also scared to do these types of things. I've been wanting to turn my sons room into a Minecraft theme and the wall paper looks so cool but I have been very Intimidated by it until now bc if you can make it thru the struggle then I think I can also! Thank you for giving me the confidence to start my own project!!!
LOL - now you know. I've done wallpaper a few times and have a. new appreciation for the professionals. I promised myself that I will never scrape off another inch of wallpaper no matter how much and how pretty it looks.
Suggestion, cut a perfect square from the top left corner and place down where ya can see it. That high area is less visible and you can hang a few hooks up there for storage to hide it.
You make my day, I get more laughs from you! I have had problems with wall paper like you. I knew you were going to have trouble but I loved watching you. Keep it up!
Kimmy, you are encouraging and inspiring. Thank you for your videos, and don’t knock your self for the wall paper , it may not be 100% reminder of the Lilly brand, but it’ll remind you that you are of woman with tenacity, you don’t give up and you finished what you started. Whenever your kids have one of those days where they want to give up or not even want to try, take them to this wall. Lead by example! ❤❤❤❤❤
Love, love, love this video! Thanks for sharing the journey with us! We all know the feeling of going from, "Yeah, this project is going to be simple!" to "OMG! What have I gotten myself into, and why did I choose this for myself?!?!?" Kudos for sticking it out!
"I'm just gunna grab Alex and his long arms"😂😂😂💀
Love ya Kim.❤ Where are your little waffle makers at? Valentine is coming, do you have a heart one? You are still the lady across the room for me.😊🥰
I love the wallpaper you picked for your storage closet - and you deserve a round of applause for putting it up yourself! I really admire your persistence and enthusiasm!
Kim, you are always busy. I can’t get over Wolfgang and how he has grown.
That wall is incredible. It would make me happy every day to go in there. You are the best.
Your organization of your kitchen drawers was a big help. Now I will be doing the same in my kitchen. Thank you very much
Kim - Wolfgang is such a delight to watch, oh and you trying to organize your cupboards you always seem to put a smile on my face. love from Australia.
I'm sorry to comment again. I think I am the only person in the world who LOVES corner cabinets. & when we built our house, I didn't get even one😫😫😫 I used 2 tier lazy susans in each corner (not the back). It made items accessible to me. P.S. I love watching & listening to you!! You have an amazing family!! Thank You!!
I always keep my totes in the car. Folded and stored in the soft sided cooler I keep in the back.
You get a standing ovation for a job well done! Loved this video.
Wolfgang is the spit of Wentworth!! Keep thinking I'm looking at older videos haha!! So cute x ❤
Those grocery/reusable bags are really useful. I may or may not have a lot also. 😂
In the drawer with your drink mixes you have a great space for putting all your straws and straw cleaners in that empty area. ❤
I felt your pain when I saw the see through bins. Pat yourself on the back. You actually used that wallpaper. I would not have had the courage. You did quite the good job, I think. And it’s like you said, if it was on a “normal” wall it would have been easier. I am glad you keep moving forward. Nothing stops you!
Kim I love how that closet turned out. I am someone that likes hidden storage but also storage inside of storage. I also love Cas she's hilarious. But those drawers are probably better for everyone because you can kinda see inside them. Don't give up on the wallpaper. It takes practice but worth it. That pattern is gorgeous. Someone else already left the tips for you on the bubble. It works perfectly. I also get overwhelmed. So I do one or two things at a time. That way if I need to adjust take something back for something else no biggie. But I love all your ideas in this video. Hope its nore practical for you this year. And thank goodness for awesome neighbors. Thanks for sharing!
Designing spaces is so hard! Nothing ever goes like you picture it in your mind
I love your room!! It looks nice ( the wall paper is amazing)and all your organizing looks amazing!
You did it Kim. I’m not a wallpaper fan as far as getting it done. My husband like to paint. You always make me smile. Loved this video.
You just picked a difficult wall to start with. Love the wallpaper.
Kim- your drinks drawer is great for you. You love to hydrate!! I think you undervalue doing something that is for you 🧡 You deserve it 🥰
The colors of the new baskets are awesome. Being able to see what’s in the baskets or not being able to see the floor? The baskets are great, but if it really bugs you, put poster board in the basket. Cut a piece just to cover the front, put it inside, then you can’t see what’s inside.
Cut some colored construction paper and slide in front of those drawers to hide. Love the coral wallpaper, coral design & coral colors, so pretty. First time out you did great!
