Awesome build and I enjoy watching your progress. With regard to the tool boxes, would they effect the departure angle less if mounted on the opposite sides? ie, square end forming the wheel well. Regards Rob

Thanks. In a way yes it would make sense but the boxes are roughly 35 inches off the ground the departure angle is still fairly good I don't think anyone would be wheeling this truck to that extent as it's around 20000pounds

Have you seen the ECO Hubs direct drive units? looks like a great upgrade to make them more highway friendly!

@Adventuredriven thanks! I got them custom built by a local fabricator as I don't have a press to Bend them myself. They are super tuff he definitely does some quality work

In the Allison documentation is written that it works with motor oil in some special application but is not recommended. Actually they recommend only few hi quality transmission fluids. Just because motor oil worked in there for 10000 miles in 30 years, does not mean that's a good option. Best of luck.

@OOOOutdoorOffGridOverland thanks I may change it in the future but at seems like a controversial topic as some people experience failure shortly after the change to atf. The 90s manuals for other allison 3000 series do say you can run 15w40 in warm temperatures and do more frequent changes not the 80000miles like with atf

@@expe.adventit is also true the fact that all clutches are impregnated with motor oil which may create some trouble there. I swiched to ATF BP Autan syn 295 8000 miles ago, no problem so far.

Did you get the purge solved? Mine did that and after changing to governor and chasing lines, and rebuilding the air dryer, it turned out to be a small crack in the brass fitting right at the bottom of the dryer. It was bleeding the signal air out to the governor.

@dsc8667 I did but mine was actually some military mechanic genius rebuilt the one way checkvalve to the wet tank wrong.
