Start with ordinary, rip it up a bit, distress it, stick it together, end up with a little piece of gorgeousness💕 How clever is that!

very pretty....I want to learn to do some cluster rolls of fabric buttons and lace....takes me a couple of times watching to do this... but I love the ones you've done today... I find I grab them out of my glory box that I have all my favorite ephemera pieces, and I am low....so time to get busy. Thanks for sharing this nice video , Karen.

Clusters! My favorite! After Jessica did her video making clusters she did a swap. I made 50... She starts out by using a thicker base which helps make them stronger. You can use a couple of staples and put a flower or button to cover over the staple. That is why the Tim a Holtz tiny attacher stapler works best. It is ok to glue down any lose pieces. My favorite thing to do with clusters is to make them into a card. You can add a sentiment. The only thing that is hard to do is not to make them too bulky. You have to pay extra in postage if it is too bulky. I really do love clusters and I am way past overthinking when I make them. Just remember that you are not a cluster jedi yet....❤❤❤

Thank you Laura, I know how much you love clusters. I still remember how amazed I was watching Jessica's video for the first time, she makes it so effortless!!! Mine are a lot bigger than hers to be fair, so I am not sure the single staple thing would have worked anyway ;-) i have made some in the past which were modelled on some of the gorgeous clusters that you have sent me at different times, they were smaller x

Jessica and you are clearly very different characters 😅 It just proves that people's personalities come out so much in their Journaling. I watched the video you were talking about before I watched yours. I don't know how she does it. I would be overwhelmed by all her options and couldn't just wack the things together like she does. I'd have to do it a little more considered than that. I like the fact that her securing technique creates a lot of subtle texture though. Its interesting how your clusters all turned out to be very similar; all gorgeous though. Don't worry about the length of your videos hun, people can dip in and out as they can. It's nice to see the whole process, thoughts and decisions and all. We can see a final product on other platforms 💜

Yes, you're right our personalities do show through our Journaling. I am literally in awe of how Jessica does her clusters, I found it literally mesmerising at how quickly she is able to just pick a bunch of stuff and then just by using one staple hold everything together!!! Amazing technique she has x

I obviously speak “gibberish” quite well, as I always know exactly what you are saying!! I’m not big on the staples.... I know you can hide them, but it just seems like cheating. But I know that they have their place, and others love using them. These turned out gorgeous!!❤️.

Best cluster video I’ve seen yet. I’m not much into the staple method either. Other crafters may disagree, but I think the staple takes away the elegance. You did a wonderful job. As a side note, I really like the sweater you are wearing. 🌸

Hmmm... Thrift stores would be a good place to start... You can get old books and magazines (I just picked up a 35 year old crochet magazine - the ads in the back are great). You can find fabric not just in bulk like at the fabric store but maybe a vintage print blouse that'll supply you with fabric and buttons and maybe some lingerie for ribbons and lace. Check Pinterest for lots of free ephemera large and small and even things like patterns to make envelopes and tags. Tell your friends what you're doing and I'd bet they'll be on the lookout for things you can use. And finally, once you start looking you may be amazed at how much stuff you have in your own house. Enjoy the search! MK

Hi Mary, yes exactly as EmmKaa said, thrift stores are a brilliant place to start. Also, get yourself an old book with a variety of pictures and themes, an encyclopedia (with pictures) is something I have found VERY useful. Any old clothes and jewellery can always be used too. You might enjoy my beginners tools and tips video kzread.info/dash/bejne/dqyatcqNaLGxhpc.html x

@@emmkaa2099 Thank you so much for the advice and ideas. After I finished this video for the second time I got to thinking about that and did a Google search for thrift shops in my city. Good place to go and then antique shops might have some old magazines and sheet music. Thanks so much for responding. I've been making cards for a few years now, but this journal stuff is so intriguing I am on a quest now. Happy holidays to you. Mary.
