Hey everyone, welcome back to the homestead! Today we're tackling a project that's been on our to-do list for a while - building an elevated milking stanchion specifically for our Dexter cow! Milking can be tough on the back, especially with a smaller breed like a Dexter. So we're hoping this new stanchion will make things a breeze (and way less achy) for both of us.
Come along with us as we gather our materials, walk you through the building process using our home-milled lumber and finally unveil the finished product! We'll even give you a little tour of the stanchion and explain how it works.

Philip dreamed of a place where he could build a self-sufficient life. A little piece of land where he could hunt, work the land, and build a home that he could be proud of. His dream began to become a reality when he purchased the first 40 acres of Kowalski Mountain in 2016.
I met Philip online in 2018. I grew up on a small, hobby farm. While I loved the outdoor lifestyle, I was stuck in my urban life far from my roots and the lifestyle I loved.
It's hard to deny that Philip and I were meant for each other. We make a great team! We seem to be able to accomplish more than the average couple in record time. Since our Kentucky dream is built in short workcations, our ability to get things done is a huge asset.
