    I've always built my own shelves for my blu-ray collection (I have over 2000 titles) and I never like flat-packed store bought shelves as they never seem to full use the space the shelf is going to be standing in. Recently I've been looking at some inspiration for a new shelf as I've moved houses, this this was a helpful video 😊

    Perfect timing for this video. Looks like a good winter project. I'll tackle this along one side of our garage to start and then probably along the garage door side afterward. Will probably swap in some 2x4s, but I definitely like the simplicity of the design (it works really nicely for 10' ceilings). Might throw on some stain (or just paint) to dress it up a notch! 5:12

    I've watched this video a few times and I'm finally ready to try something similar to this. I'm going to attempt a cubby for my kids' toys using the same methods here. Eventually I'm going to do a larger DVD/ game shelf based off your design, too. I also want to say that as an American, trying to understand the difference in some terminology has been interesting. As well as seeing brands we don't have here.

    My DVD shelves are going to look very similar to that. It's funny that you mentioned pocket screws because my dad offered to loan me his jig. I think what I'm going to do instead of pocket screws or brackets is some shallow dadoes with a 1/4 inch plywood panel screwed on the back. This would let me disassemble it later as well as prevent the DVDs from contacting the wall. Great use of that landing! Makes me wonder what that nearly useless landing is there for anyhow. I lived in my grandfather's house for a while after he passed and sometimes I would see something and have to scratch my head. Then I'd call my dad, the historical architect, and his only insight would be, "That's the way your grandpa would do things." Big help, Dad.

  • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

    @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

    4 жыл бұрын

    Ooh, love the idea of dadoes too :) Although I think I want to buy a router table soon to try them. And yes, I'm curious what this landing was built for. It's rather odd as it leads nowhere and not enough room to walk down if there's thing on it.

    Great job; great video. I need to build one of these and this is EXACTLY the way I want it, just different dimensions. About 6ft. (180cm)wide x 5ft. (152cm)high. I'll probably add a rear panel for function and stability. Thank You for the abundance of information. I'm now subscribed to your channel. 👍👏📐

    Great timing. I was on the verge of pulling the trigger on some Wickes timberboard (for the purposes of a DIY pencil / art supplies drawer unit), and wasn't certain if the quality of the timber was up to par. Looks great, and I've picked up some much needed woodworking reminders in this video. Cheers!

    "Don't drive angry!" Probably a weekly quote for me.. Do you have an air source heat pump or is that an air conditioning unit for your bungalow?

    Don't drive on the railroad tracks 😂 That is our air conditioning unit, but it also blows hot air and have set it on auto to regulate the temperature. It's brilliant and glad we had it installed and it's cheap to run :)

    Lovely job n, ol but dvd's one tiny little NAS box in the back of a cupboard and you can have thousands of media files streaming through plex. Im not trying to knock you in any way shape of form i just don't get the whole collecting dvd's thing.

    Ooh, I've never heard of that, but my husband said he's watched it. He seems to think it's a Baby Cow production?

    Thanks. Well, you could make it with MDF or plywood (the latter I think is equally as pretty once Danish oiled) :)

    Maybe so, but it's designed for a specific area of a house. Plus it can be taken with them if they move house. And the ones made at a Swedish store are not of this quality.

    Great video👍 You are like my daughter. She can pull-off projects like that, easily, I wish more men would be like that also, unfortunately some men I know are not very handy and that bothers me, as it is indispensable being handy and knowing how to operate tools to make things, especially when you own a home and have a family. I did something similar recently by repurposing some older white shelf cabinets. If I have time I will post a video of my unit on my YT channel, mine looks pretty custom made as one single 15Ft wide 8" deep, 24" tall cabinet with a 15Ft wide 12" deep 2" thick Pergo Laminated floor mantle made from a 2"thick high density foam base.

    The entire library would fit on an SDD. It's all a waste of space. The 90s are over. I know, right?
