    I miss having a walk-in closet. When I was a teenager, my father was in the military, and the house we lived in on base... was a two-story town house. The first floor and the second floor had identical floor plans, so there were "two" master bedrooms. My parents took the downstairs room (because my mother was clumsy, and had the nature to fall on the stairs. On the plus side, our parents didn't bug my brother and I too much. On the negative... we had to bring our own clean laundry upstairs!😕). I picked my room first... so I got the upstairs "master bedroom" with the walk-in closet. I never had a closet you could walk into before, so it was nice to have SO MUCH ROOM... for clothes, shoes, toys, etc.! I really miss it. You can't really "make" a walk-in closet, unless you have an oversized bedroom... or can add on to your house. I do have room to expand further into the backyard with my house now... but that is a HUGE undertaking, and expensive. You can't just add to your house like it's Minecraft!! You did a really nice job with your closet.

    I used the design program you mentioned. It made a world of difference in the flow of the project. I knew exactly how much plywood, trim, flooring I would need. I bought the same dressers. The hardest part? Finding the right color white. I don't have any long hanging space, but other then that nothing is lacking. Before tackling this bigger project I work on smaller projects to get some practice. It paid off. Thank you!

    For the person asking about removing the carpet. Yes you should remove it. If in the future you change carpet the old carpet will be stuck under the base of the closet. You don’t have to completely remove it, but you should cut out the carpet under the base and re-secure it with new tack strips.

    New sub here. I did the Pax version and I have less overall space. The Pax drawers take up more space with less storage than you have with shelves. Also, I didn't have enough floor space to cut out of the room to put anything on the wall between the two rows of closets. Using six units with drawers and shelves and a couple of accessories, the purchase price is over 2K, which I feel is worth it. Your work is stunning!!! I moved into a house built in the fifties with two side-by-side closets that had those horrible sliding doors. Ripped the entire thing out (you can't imagine how much space was wasted), replaced with Pax, and added facing Pax units on the other side. I had a carpenter do mine because, well, I just don't have the skill, the strength, or the power tools. He painted and added molding etc, which I could never imagine doing. Your work is incredibly impressive.

    I'm so inspired by your closet makeover videos! While I don't have experience with projects like this, I do have a mind for it and interest to learn. My dad was a woodworker and hoping I can tap into his spirit while working through this! I just have not found any closet systems that look worthy of the cost, even the beautiful Pax system. I'm over 3 hours from the closest IKEA, but sold on getting the Tarva dressers. IKEA will not ship to me so we'll be making a road trip. Hoping to save money, but honestly the personal gratification of a job well done will be what I am hoping for! Wish us luck!

    Ooh, no, if you're going to build a pedestal/base, take the carpet out. You want that on the floor or else it'd be really tough to level or change the flooring later on. You can also cut the carpet radially from the walls, to the depth of the pedestal, cut that portion away, install a new tack strip, and re install the carpet and hide the edge under quarter round. But LVP is inexpensive and easy to do if you already have a leveled, prepped floor. Surprised she didn't do it at the same time.

    Fantastic videos Stefani! A couple of additional questions...you are way more talented than I hope to ever be but I'm curious as to why you didn't make completed boxes for each section ahead of time (I'm starting this project shortly and your guidance would be very helpful)? Would that not be easier? Is there a drawback to doing it that way? Also, it would add to the expense but I was thinking of going with glass shelves (less screwing & painting). Any drawbacks to this? Thanks for all you do!!

    Love this closet design. Already completed demo of my closet and working on a design like yours. Question - you have 22” depth for your hanging clothes. Why this depth instead of 24”? Do the clothes hang put past the vertical shelf depth or in front of the side shelves? Did you also use creamy white on the walls that don’t have any shelving? For example, where the long big mirror is?

    Does anyone know what kind of plywood was used in this project? For example, pine, birch, etc. I know the ikea drawers were pine wood but wasn’t sure if the same was used for the plywood. I used birch on the first closet but birch was expansive. Great wood though. It cost me $65 a sheet. I’m trying to save money but at the same time I would like to use quality wood though.

  • @kpezzz
    @kpezzz2 жыл бұрын

    After longer use, presumably, is everything holding up? I love pocket holes too but I'd worry about stability. Anchoring to the Tarva and the shelves adds more structure, but I think I'd have put 2x4 lip around the walls, about midway, where the top of the dresser and the second hanging shelf on the back wall fall, and around the top, to help make it solid and strong.

    I feel late to the party, but I wonder how you feel about using plywood vs, say, melamine? I have NO idea of the advantages or disadvantages really, but it seems like melamine is actually cheaper by the sheet where I am vs plywood. I'm also having a hard time finding Sande plywood in large sheets near me - they're like 2'x4' pieces and not the bigger 4x8 sheets. Melamine is of course more slippery and I'm not sure how well it paints, but it's "finished" after a sort already if you want a white closet. Just curious! Your work is fantastic

    I watched this and thought it was great! I’m a professional closet organizer, my company is called Southern Oregon Closets. We are probably twice as expensive as this, so you’ve come up with a good money saver, however, it does take about four times as time and energy as it would take us. I’d just like to add one comment, you buried the hanging in the corners. Always make your other section that butts against it 14 inches shy of the side that runs I into the wall with hanging, or you will never be able to reach back there and get your clothes. You can still make it appear to be one unit by connecting the very top shelf all the way around.
