Excellent work! I'm 17, and don't have kids, and I've also never used a sewing machine in my life, but this was a fun watch none the less. Great tutorial!

Great job!

Boy mum here, I made this and my 6 month old destroyed it in 10 mins 😳 so I remade it and sewed 3 times over the ribbons! Now it’s lasting much better! Thanks for such a clear tutorial and love the idea of using a cereal packet inside, very resourceful xxx

what temp can you iron the item on w/the crinkly paper inside? Is cotton too hot?

I just made one yesterday without checking any tutorials and im surprised at how similar mine ended up being! I used parchment paper though, and I'm thinking it might lose some of that crinkle sound with time, so I like your idea of cereal bag better. I think mine ended up very thin and hard to grab for a small baby, so I came to see if you used any filling. Apparently not. I will make sure to put a teething ring in the next one. I hope wooden ones are fine? I'll make sure to stitch a cross over the surface too. Ps if you don't have ribbons you can also make your own ones using fabric pieces.

Thanks for watching our video. That is a great idea for using fabric pieces if you don't have ribbon. In fact, it's a great way to use up scrap fabric. However, I would suggest if you use fabric to make sure to not have raw edges because the fabric may fray and baby could get them in their mouth.

Hi,m ​@@Needlepointers, yes of course that's a good point. I cut pieces approx 4cm wide, then you fold each side into the middle and then fold again and sew the edge. Not sure if I'm explaining myself here. That way it looks like a ribbon but self-made.

Does the iron not melt the plastic??

No, the iron does not melt the plastic.

I've made several, and the layers shift horribly, so nothing stays aligned!! Help!!

Use pins to hold the pieces in place and remove them as you go

I'm sorry you are having problems making the baby toy. If the clips are not holding it in place for you, I'd recommend using pins. Remove the pins as you sew so you won't hit them. We also have a written tutorial here that may help: www.needlepointers.com/main/youtubecontent.aspx?youtubepageid=501

You can add a layer of flannel under the crinkle layer. This gives this toy a bit more body and softness and you will not have a slippery piece of plastic to deal with. I would make sure that the flannel is pre washed. It does shrink and that will distort the toy after a washing. I really suggest that all fabrics be pre washed that will be used.
