I REALLY appreciate you showing how to do this with foam core. I can not afford wood. You do things for crafters on a budget. I see so many crafts that I want todo but I just don’t have the money to buy all of the stuff with. So thanks again.

When I cut various pieces out of foam boards or fabric, I use post it notes labeled with the part and dimensions to put on the general area before cutting. It prevents mix-ups in cutting and assigns the pieces without permanently marking them. Love your drawers and ideas.

I made a custom size stamp caddy using this method. In my craft corner I have a bunch of cube shelves and I couldn't find small trays to organize my rubber stamp collection so I made a frame of cardboard that fits into one of the cubes and built 8 drawers out of foam core to fit inside it, each drawer is just deep enough for one layer of stamps. I organized them by type so it is easy to pull out and take to my work table. I have been using it for almost 2 years now it is still going strong.

I work and design with foam core quite a bit. Another way to make it a little more sturdy so that it will hold more weight is to glue 2 boards together to use as a horizontal shelf. It basically makes your shelf twice as thick, but adding the hot glue in between the 2 boards makes it MORE than twice as strong. Another tip for using foam board that is super, super sturdy and will hold a TON of weight is to glue 1" wide strips of foam board perpendicular to the bottom sheet of foam board about 4-6" apart (the larger the horizontal shelf is going to be, the closer your strips need to be, but generally, around 6" apart will work for most projects). If you are making a really large shelf and you need it to be extra rigid or support a lot of weight, glue the strips at a 45 degree angle to the sides, but still perpendicular to the bottom board. I also will put shorter strips perpendicular to the ones that are at a 45 degree angle, making an "X-type pattern. Once you have enough supports in place, glue the 2nd board on top of your 1" wide support strips. The trickiest thing about this is getting the glue down on all your support strips fast enough so the hot glue doesn't dry. I made a large 22x30" "table top" this way to use as a large desk surface when I want to craft in my recliner and it's wide enough to sit on top of the recliner arms and gives me a huge work surface to use. I even glued a foam core strip across the front that sticks up about 3/8" higher than the surface of my desk to keep pencils from rolling off. This has been such a lifesaver for me. Hope that helps someone.

@@TheCraftyOrganizer You are so sweet to say that. I took quite a few pictures of the different projects I have made out of foam board and cardboard, but I don't believe I can add pictures in the comments. How should I send the pictures to you? I tried responding in the email, but my response from there couldn't go out, and I have no idea how to send you the pics. LOL. I love this idea, and can’t wait to try! When my daughter was expecting my first grandchild, a girl, I made an armoire out of foam core and cardboard boxes to use as a way to present her gifts. It was about 4 foot tall, it had doors that opened, and it held a dowel rod so I could hang all the outfits I bought for the first year of her life. I used small baskets to hold her little socks, bibs, hair bows. I used mostly Dollar Store products and used Dollar Store wooden letters to personalize it and their princess clings to decorate it. It turned out so sure and everyone loved it.

My Granddaughter kept her little dress up dresses in it! I bought the little dollar tree hangers and I shopped every clearance sale in town, for 9 months and filled it with clothes of all sizes and seasons for her first year or more! I even made her little burp cloths! No sweet baby of mine can vomit on an ordinary cloth! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I wasn’t even a little bit excited! 😊

Foam core board is great for inexpensive, yet very affordable storage options. With a little planning, a supply of sharp blades (they do dull quickly), and a hot glue gun you can save a bundle! The best part is that you can build custom to fit your needs and space. I have unique space constraints on my craft desk for storage. First I extended my desk 5" further back by adding an inexpensive, primed white 1/2" thick x 5" wide x 8' long shelf board cut to 50" length (the width of my white desk) using L brackets. Due to the desk's structure, the bottom edge of the extension is flush with the desktop, providing a bonus lip so I don't plow into additional storage I built to sit on that extension. Then I built ink pad storage with Dollar Tree foam core and trimmed the front edges with ribbons of colored gems from...you guessed it - Dollar Tree! I cut the ribbons into strings of individual gems with a craft knife and used hot glue to secure them. On my last 2 units I discovered the $ Tree white craft glue (it is PVA glue I hear is so popular on British KZread craft posts) that did an even better job affixing the bling than the hot glue - and it was much kinder to my fingers. I broke my storage into smaller/narrower units to fit around the shelf standards that run vertically to hold shelves above my desk. Now I have 60 inkpads within reach plus another unit customized to hold containers of embellishments I already had. There are a couple of small spaces between some units where I have storage for my stamp cleaner, a new blending brush, my signature stamp, and 2 sets of water based markers/brush pens I recently bought. I am thrilled with the way it all turned out! I did cheat a little and laid out my schematics on Cricut Design space, cut two sets from $T poster board, and glued them together for stability. It helped me reduce the standing time needed for cutting, which saved me A LOT of back pain. FYI: I used the remainder of the 8' board to build a shelf that holds more of my rubber stamps, and the last scrap piece I used to mount my thread cone stand (the inexpensive plastic base model that falls over if you blow on it😁) so it is now stable and functional. I think I spent under $9.00 for that board, so I got a lot of bang for my buck. Adding in the 3 sheets of foam core, glue sticks (I have a lifetime supply!), ribbon bling, my $9.00 board, L brackets, and 2 decorative shelf supports...I got a lot of storage for under $30. The decorative shelf brackets were the priciest expense, and they serve double duty by providing a place to hand my brush broom, dustpan, and laundry bag for dirty microfiber towels. A little bit of sweat equity really pays off BIG!

Great Job!😍 LOVE The drawers! The handles look so Awesome! I think if you added a top and bottom piece it would give more support - but I know you have a narrow space to get it onto the shelf! Like someone else mentioned - if you put the drawers in the bottom section they could probably take a lot more weight! And use the drawers further up to put lighter weight items I did buy the special shipping tape that has the strings going through it I got the kind that you actually have to wet in order to stick! They used to sell it at the office supply stores but now I could only find it online! I Absolutely Love the intro music too!🥰🎶 Oh I thought A compilation video on some of the various Foam Core Board Projects would be Wonderful for more ideas - Especially for people who have never seen anything made out of foam core board before you made these videos it would give tons of inspiration and ideas for use! Thank you for opening up a Whole New World of Organization for people on a budget! You are One Terrific Lady! 😍 Thank you!❤️

Small suggestion. Keep in mind that multiples of an ordinary tool can be a blessing and maintain the peace in your household. Scissors are a good example. I keep a pair in the garage, in the basement, at my desk, in my kitchen, and with my garden tools. I keep a few screw drivers in my car. Discarded furniture may be beyond repair, but the knobs and pulls are worth salvaging.

I want to change all my clear and red rubber stamps into storage pockets instead of the clear plastic cases to save room in my craft area, and this looks like the perfect way to make some custom size storage drawers at a budget price. Thanks so much for making your video, I will be using your ideas in the near future. TFS!

This is fantastic! Thanks so much!I have some basic 6’ tall/30” wide bookcases that I’ve thought about turning some on it’s side to make a long, low, wall to wall storage. I was trying to figure out how to divide the space up... now I have it! I can put heavier items on the bottom and make the inserts to go above! This is going to rock! Maybe I’ll add some short legs as well. 🤓

Catchy tune! Can’t wait for this- Yes Ladies, we could use Amazon boxes and spray paint. I think if there is a way to make sure the foam core is laid flat before you start, you could take care of some of the wonkiness 😉 I love this so much $5 INCREDIBLE!

I'm thinking of doing this for some organizational storage with some of my craft supplies. I'm thinking of covering mine in contact paper to make it a little more decorative. Either that, or lots of modge podge with cardstock or decorative papers. Might try using my 3d pen to make custom knobs and handles too. Could get interesting...

You do an awesome job at explaining how to do things all of us seem to want to do, but don’t know where to begin! Thanks so much!! I am revamping my sewing room and my partner and I built a new cutting table with IKEA kallax and used a piece of melamine for the top. I don’t have the money to invest more money into IKEA’s drawers and doors so this video was PERFECT! Thanks a million for your creativity. I look forward to seeing more of your ideas.
