DIY Craft Desk ~ So Much Storage!!!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Is there such a thing as enough storage? Nope! Especially in a craft room. I always feel like I need more storage space. So I FINALLY made a DIY Craft Desk! This thing gives so much needed storage for my craft room!
And on top of that, I wanted to have a fancy craft table - desk. Something that I could easily craft on, as well as make interesting videos for people to watch. And with the help of my husband, we were able to build this desk that we designed in just a couple of hours.
The tools needed were basic - with the exception of the pneumatic nail gun. But other than that I needed a drill, a screwdriver, a hammer, and some basic hardware.
The two most important parts of my desk were the table top, and the shelving units we bought to make this craft table. And in case you were wondering, here are some of the things I talked about in the video:
Kaboon 48 x 30 Table Top: amzn.to/3tC853l
Cube Storage Organizer: amzn.to/3If4lsP ($45.00 for 2 White)
Ulanzi Flexible Desk Camera Mount: amzn.to/3Ks2EKu

So i have a 22.5 ft x 11ft livingroom that im turning into a craftroom. I decided that im going to line the walls with black 9 cube shelves with butcherboard counters. My initial thought for the workbench in the center was just a wood tabke, but after watching, i think im doing more cubes. Bigger than yours but same concept. Then the walls will be markerboards and bulletin boards. It'll also make for a nice classroom setting when i start homeschooling. But thanks for this idea. It fit perfectly into what i already had in mind.

This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble kzread.infoUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

For your next project using particle board (like what you've used to here), you don't need to hand-tighten anything; use the drill the entire time... BUT utilize the torque feature of your drill to avoid stripping the "wood". I see you're using HART products, so your setting will inevitably differ from my own as I use DeWalt. I set the torque ring to #2 and never strip anything while still ensuring tight screws.

Thank you so much Lynda. I have been so happy with this craft table - It get's used a LOT and was worth the time, and money investment. I just got a new storage organizer to hold my Cricut machine, and I think I'm going to do a Craft Room tour video to show how I use all of the storage I have created, maybe it will give you more ideas! Have a great day!

Hi you did an amazing job on this!!! I just ordered the cubes and table top to make this. Is there written instructions I can follow by aside from the video? Also, what size screws, washers and drill bit work best for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

  • @BudgetEquestrian

That is such a good idea! I have not written out the instructions - yet - but I will now! 😁😁😁I believe the screws were 1 1/2" long just to be able to secure the tabletop into the cubes. And they were drywall screws so they had a pointy end, which made it easier to get them to grab into the wood. We bought the screws at Home Depot, and went to the washer section so we could pull a screw out, and find the right size washer to fit. And the drill bit is tiny probably 1/4" (?) it was one of the smallest drill bits we could find.- just enough to start a hole to get the screws started. I will write up some step by step instructions and put them on my blog ( truewhimsy.com/ ) in the next few days for you too!

@@BudgetEquestrian omg thank you so much for your quick response and for offering to prepare instructions... 🙏 After I ordered the supplies and realized I didn't really know what size screws or drill but etc that I might not have enough info to do this effectively and end up ruining the cubbies lol. Your design was exactly what I had been looking for and I have been looking for a while! I don't have a lot of space in my bedroom and I have the Ikea kallax 4x4 cubbies all around my room holding my craft stuff but I just don't have a lot of room for a desk so I have to roll in a foldable desk/table right now and put it away to have desk space and it just doesn't work. This design will allow me to remove the two 4x4 kallax cubbies from my room and use these smaller ones to create a desk/storage space in one by having and I'll still have the same amount of cubbies I had with the kallax just not taking as much space. I'm so excited to make this and really really appreciate your response and help. 🥰
