DIY cotton sew in label tutorial SAVE SO MUCH MONEY!!

Handmade sew in cotton labels
Let me know if you have any questions! Happy to answer and help out. Tag me in your creations on instagram!
I sell scrunchies and hair bows! Check them out here:
www.madebytaylahrose.com
What I did:
- Print out labels on heat transfer paper (mirrored/flipped)
- Cut up heat transfer paper labels
- Cut cotton strips double the size of your design
- Make a bias binding type strip with the cotton using the iron
- Heat iron to cotton setting and press (while moving) for 20-30 seconds. Trial and error recommended to figure out best outcome for you.
- (optional) Using a Heat press, press for 20 seconds on 180 degrees.
- Peeling when transfer paper is cool leaves a glossy finish where as if you peel while still hot its a different texture. Work out what is best for you.
- Trim off excess and cut leaving enough room to sew into garment or accessory
Tip:
✧ Always trial different heats and times to find the best outcome for you.
✧ Do wash tests prior to placing on garments that require machine wash
✧ Make sure you buy the right heat transfer paper for the correct printer

This was my favorite video on this topic. Labels for our hand mades are very necessary, but the choices are not very good. This was a well done walk through on your process and it was interesting to see how you incorporated your heat press into the plan! Thanks so much!!!

Look up a bias tape maker, they have them in like 25mm widths, you feed the strip through and "walk" your iron towards it, then pull it down the fabric more. It works great, and they're pretty cheap. It's just a little cone-ish thing that folds the ends in for you. Then you wouldnt have to cut the fabric strip in half and could just work your way down the whole strip

I haven't made my own labels ever (I used to have them printed for me), but mine were on a satin ribbon. Easy to just cut the length and sew the raw edges to the seams. This looked so easy I might want to try and make my own labels just for fun, and I'll try it on satin ribbon (no folding&ironing the edges). :)

Have a try on your text editor (such as Word, OpenOffice, Pages or even Google Docs). Some of them have tutorials/ready made patterns how to make business cards etc. so maybe they will be useful. Or another handy tool is Canva.com. It is very easy to use. You can make a picture of your label design and then save it to your computer and open your text editor and just copy & paste the picture as many times as your page can contain, be remindful of the seam and trimming allowances needed. BE CAREFUL TO MIRROR THE PAGE BEFORE PRINTINg (or you will have you words backwards on the canvas). Print your design on the ironing paper and iron it on your fabric.

Take a look at any garment you have and what size is the text in their label and compare to the text in your text editor. Depending on the font (and if you have a logo etc.) it is usually not that big. But it is nice to be able to read what it says...

Facebook? Online flee markets in your country? Ask local hairdressers, beauty salons, other places that sell items/services related to hair, beauty and fashion if they would like to buy them from you and sell them. I don't have any experience but I have heard Etsy is maybe not a good choice to start with (unless you have a sales funnel somewhere leading to Etsy), it is very difficult to get your stuff to be seen in there.

I do! Best to do some tests before sewing onto washable items, I used to make tshirts with a logo and they washed up great in cold water

Only if you don't properly apply it, or don't use correct materials. This is how they make printed shirts and tags you get from big brand stores as well.

@@Sky-fz7ku no, this is not. Brand labels are mostly made in serigraphy and sublimation. Those last waaaay longer. Transfer paper is inkjet printed and peels of after a couple washes.
