DIY Copper Mug for Moscow Mule | Made from 3/4" Pipe!
All the cool kids are drinking Moscow Mules. But they’re supposed to be served in copper cups, which are expensive. Here’s how to make your own DIY copper cups with nothing more than 3/4 inch copper pipe. You can buy all of the materials for about $3 per cup from the hardware store, or find scrap metal and make them cheap or free.
I’ve never done any sort of copper or sheet metal fabrication so this is about what you can expect if you’re a beginner. Overall I’m happy with the results. The hardest part was learning to solder or “sweat” the parts together.
Our Moscow Mule recipe is 2oz vodka and 4oz ginger beer. These cups ended up about 7 ounces which are perfect.

To anyone complaining or worried about the flux and solder, how do you think the pipes in your house were all attached?
So, the cup is too short, too wide, un-hammered(smooth), and potentially made with poisonous solder. ImPRESSive...
hope its lead free solder :-|
#1 Copper is TOXIC and you did not line the interior to make it food safe. Very dangerous. #2 Hope you used lead free solder or food safe solder. If not, LEAD will kill you. You did not warn against lead solder in your video and instruct not to use it. Someone trying this and using the first solder they find can end up very ill or worse. Complicated by if they make multiples and give them away.
helpful tip, heat the copper till it glows then quickly quench i in water till its cold. this will make it extremely malleable and easy to manipulate into your desired shape.
So I would shine the copper up, and use polycrylic to coat it. It would seal it from the oxygen from tarnishing. Tarnish is no bueno for humans. It's toxic. Polycrylic is food safe once cured. I want to make one now!
Copper is toxic! You should not drink anything that's acidic from this mug.
As if it wasn't healthy. If only there was copper.
Just something to add- you could use copper sheet instead of splitting, flattening and soldering pipe into a sheet. You can also get copper solder instead of silver, so there's no visible solder.
Naaah with this seem it is not how it supposed to be
the look your wife gave the camera while asking "you want me to drink from it " was priceless.
Please do not use leaded solder, and please
What up! Those improv copper mugs are pretty dope. Impressed by your skills, and inspired to get in a workshop again. I'm going to research why copper mugs are a must to be served in.
if u anneal the copper first it will give like better. good job.... I can't wait to make one! thank you!
Love the project but am a little concerned about solder usually containing lead. Have you looked into this at all?
i love this colour
Gracias me gusta tu invento tengo algunos pedazos de cobre intentare hacer algo igual God bless you.
Just one point. Can't the base flat piece of the mug be without a joint?
Nice job, great idea
Nice, thanks for this. Getting into copper myself.
