We have built our natural pool in march 2017. I have created this video by means of a lot of pictures that we have taken during the construction.
You can see how a natural pool can be built within 5 days, starting with the digging, continuing with the laying of mats of fibers and the plastic foil until the filling with water and ending with designing the surrounding.
As our soil contains quite a lot of clay it was not necessary to support our walls by any means, so that made it easier. But I think the result is quite okay. We are proud of our natural pool.
The video should not be an instruction how to biuld your own pool because it depends on a few components if and how you can build a natural pool in your garden. Every pool hast o planned and built individually.
If you like the video, please give us a thump up. If you want to see more o fit, join our channel.
We will be pleased to receive your comment!
Have fun watching,
Ines and Christian

Please post more of this content in English you are so far ahead of us in the USA . It is amazing how much more advanced you are in your knowledge of natural pools than we are. Your system is so superior to the chemical method that it seems ridiculous why anyone would choose anything else. Unfortunate Most in my country haven’t even heard of this system let alone how to use it Hope you can help in this regard and thanks again for posting

    Thanks so much for your interest and your wish to post more in English. We will. We are working on a video in which we will give some more explanation to this system. I can actually imagine that we are a little bit advanced in our knowledge of natural pools. Maybe that is because we have started earlier to care about sustainability and the conservation of nature..... Last, not least: we are happy to help. Where in the US are you from (I am asking because of climate)?

    Thanks a lot for your positive comment. - No, there is no book so far. There is an old man in Austria that had jprofessionally worked with sewage and purification of water and he "invented" this system more than 15 years ago when he built his first natural pool according to this system. in the meantime he has built more than 300 pools and they all work well. We got our knowledge from him when we built our pool 5 years ago. No, we don't use electricity. - oh, not quite correct: once or twice a year we pump out the dead organic matter that gathers in the deep zone. Of course this cleaning pump works on electricity....... the pipes that confused you: those drain-pipes give home to the micro-organism that keep our water clear. micro-organism need absolute darkness to survive and propagate....... If you are talking about the pipes on the outside edge of our pool - those are to keep the surface-water from running into the pool. Hope I could solve the confusion a little bit! Hi Mark. Thanks for your nice comment. As to the clay: our soil is full of clay, so we could just use what was there. If the weather is dry you take a bucket of water , wet the walls and wipe. if it's rainy the ground is wet and it's easy to refinish the walls. if your soil is not clayey but sandy then you don't really have to refinish a lot. instead you could put a second layer of fiber-mats. We hope you enjoy your project!

    We do not use any filtration system except the gravel you see on one side of the pool. We decided for this system without plants or filtration because we wanted to have more swimming space insteda of the regeneration zone. And we wanted to spend less time on cleaning, cutting plants and so on. The secret is this zone with gravel. In there microorganism can develop and survive. It's microorganism that keeps the water clear, not plants. Second secret is the depth. - one third of our pool is 3,5m deep. Only 3 meters depths are necessary, but we thought we wanna make sure it works.........

    Why is the depth important?

  • @teichschwimmer5612

    @teichschwimmer5612

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, the depth is important for two reasons: The water in the deepest zone will always remain at a constant cool temperature. That keeps the water cool even in a very hot summer. And those various levels of water temperature supports the natural water curculation. Besides, the sediments sink to the depths and remain there at rest without being stirred up by swimmers. Best regards, Teichschwimmer

    Hi, great proyecto and beautifull result. Can you please explain a bit more the drain pipes below the gravel, whats its purpose? Are they connected to something?. Does the water stay clear even without any tipe of filtracion system, pump, air stone? Do you have to change the water every now and then? Again, great pool, look foward for your help with some answer. Cheers

  • @teichschwimmer5612

    @teichschwimmer5612

    3 жыл бұрын

    Dear Pablo, thanks a lot for your comment. I will explain as good as I can, but because of many questions we get we are planning to have a video with explanations in the near future..... So, the drain pipes below the gravel: they are one secret why this system works. Water is clear if there is a good balance between nutritive material and micro-organism. Micro-organism is not long-living and it needs darkness to propagate because it doesn't bear sun-light very well. that's what the pipes are for: to give the micro-organism a place to survive and propagate. So they are not connected to anything. The water stays clear due to 3 factors (simplyfied): the depth, the conical walls and the micro-organism. So we don't have a pump, air-stone. But of course you have to clean the pool once or twice a year with a pump: you pump out all the dead organic stuff that has gathered in the deep area. No, we never change the water. And we have heard that wou SHOULD not change the water because then the process of balancing has to start again. If the water sinks to a certain level (when the survival room for the micro-organism would be threatened) we refill a little with water from the tap. But most of the time our pool gets refilled by rain-water. best regard, ines/Teichschwimmer

    Hallo Teichschwimmer. Erstmal ein großes Lob. Euer Kanal und Buch mit Anleitung sind einfach super! Wir sind gerade über der Teichplanung und unsicher, was die Wetterseite bei einem Teich ist. Ist es die Seite auf der das Laub/die Samen in den Teich eingetragen werden oder die gegenüberliegende Seite, da dort das Laub im Wasser hingetrieben wird. Muss bei Westwind die Regenerationszone also auf die West-oder Ostseite? Vielen Dank schon mal für die Hilfe und macht weiter so! Viele Grüße Ferdinand

  • @teichschwimmer5612

    @teichschwimmer5612

    2 жыл бұрын

    Lieber Ferdinand, vielen Dank für Deine motivierenden Worte. Mit der Wetterseite ist die Seite/Ecke gemeint, auf/in die das Laub hingetrieben wird. - Wenn dort der Tiefenbereich geplant werden kann, dann sammelt sich das Laub am Rand des Tiefenbereichs. - Was nicht zuvor rausgekeschert wird, sinkt irgendwann ab - in diesem Fall gleich in den Tiefenbereich, wo es ja letztendlich hin soll. Wir würden sogar empfehlen, an dieser Seite auf die "Trittsteinstufe" zu verzichten, da die absinkenden Teile dann wirklich sofort in den Tiefenbereich sinken und nicht in Bereich Tirttsteinstufe hängen/liegen bleiben. Dh, wenn der Wind vorwiegend aus dem Westen kommt, ist die Wetterseite die Ostseite. Dort sollte die Regenerationszone nicht liegen. Aber sie kann gerne an allen anderen 3 Seiten liegen. Und das mit der Wetterseite ist eigentlich nur ein Tipp von uns, weil wir selbst die Baby-Zone und den flacheren (1,40m) Bereich auf der Ostseite, also unserer Wetterseite haben und einfach merken, dass es umgekehrt weniger Arbeit machen würde..... Alles klar? Liebe Grüße, Ines und Christian

    When you use a liner, is there a way to cover the walls of the deeper areas, so it looks more natural?

  • @teichschwimmer5612

    @teichschwimmer5612

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Prometheus, hmm, we never had this question before because most people choose a colored liner because they want the water to look greenish or blue. The most natural water color you get with a grey liner. - But to answer your question...... Generally I would answer your question with no. But we know someone who built a swimmteich like ours - more or less - , but with a black epdm liner. - So what he did was: from the bottom upwards he built kind of a stone wall. He laid stone by stone, up to the edge of his organic pool - and it looks great I think. We have documented the construction and we will publish the video in the next weeks. - So if you stay with us, you will not miss it. - But we will probably show that video only here on our german channel..... for the beginning at least..... All the best, ines/teichswimmer

    Very nice pool! What type and color of liner are you using? I'm building mine but hesitating between a green and black (epdm). • @teichschwimmer5612

    Hi Colin. We have used FPO (or TPO-)foil, Coulour patina green Ral6000. We are still very happy after these years, we still enjoy the same coulour as in the beginning. But of course we clean the walls and floor with a broom from time to time. EPDM is not a good joice for a pool like ours because you get it as one piece. you place it as one in you pool-hole and get ..... a lot of folds where the sediments gather. PVC (and FPO) is delivered in panels. it gets cut in pieces to fit the form of your pool. The Lengths are thermicly fused. That's why it's maybe the better choice.

    Hi Ratha, thanks for your questions. - Yes, you are perfectly right that our "schwimmteich" costs less in construction and maintance than the standard ones. Our schwimmteich has a length of 12 m and is 7 m wide. That is the outer range. The swimming zone is about 11m long and 5 m wide. You need a good dredging operator. You need fiber mats (300g/m2), liner (PVC or FPO), someone who knows how to thermically weld the liner. You need pond edge tape + stakes. you need pond bags (to be filled with gravel) you need stepping stones. you need gravel (in our schwimmteich there are about 14 t of gravel). you should clean it well once a year . That means you have to rinse the shallow areas and then you remove the detritus from the bottom by suction. If you have a little patience you will be able to understand it all because we are planning to publish a book about it. It is nearly finished, so in a few weeks it should be available on amazon.
