DIY Closet Shelves. Fast, Cheap and Easy!
I built these shelves for a small linen closet but they can be modified to fit any closet or storage room! I used Sherwin Williams wall and wood primer and the urethane trim enamel paint in high hide white. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you end up building these shelves yourself!

I like how you made the top shelf a bit shallower. Great build!
So I pretty well followed your guide to the letter - pretty happy with the way it turned out. Things I erred on was not cutting the shelves to a "tighter" tolerance on the width - took more caulk to fill in the gaps. And attaching the face board to the shelf - another area to work on - some of mine had a very slight ridge - that made it harder to create that seamless look. All novice mistakes. Thanks for the video - my only suggestions might be to provide links or additional comments on the material used (paint, router bit used, etc). It will help novice folks - like myself - and in my opinion make a great HOWTO video even better...
Very clean finish. Love it.
This came out great, nice work!
Looks amazing! Thanks for the inspiration.
Exactly what I'm looking for. Newbie to woodwork and desperately need this in my closet
Nice work, the closet looks great.
Dude, nice finish! Thanks for giving me ideas about fiber and particle boards.

Great video! This is so helpful.

Great job!
Nice job joey!
Wish you made more videos. Great job
Beautiful
For some reason I feel you give your best to any job you do...large or small. Beautiful attention to detail. Tremendous example of taking pride in your work. Jesus bless.
Really helpful video - this looks so nice and premium compared to other closet shelf builds I've seen! What kind of white filler do you use to cover up the nails & screws?
Love it!
Great video. I'm working on something similar in the next couple days.
😂😂😂 thought it would be a simple...you start with awesome tools.. that are well..not simple saw..😮😮 BEAUTIFUL work.
I really like that circular saw guide you used. It looks like you made that yourself - is there a video on that?
Love your videos. Could you link the tools and accessories you used in your description? Would love to know what brand of support you used to attach the leveling tool to the door
Hey, Superb work. What laser lever do you have?
Love this! Do you have a storefront?
Tanner and I are requesting more :)

How did the vertical spacing end up work out on your shelves?
Nitty job
What did you use for the circular saw guide. Looks like a DIY guide. Nice job on the shelving - MDF easy to cut vs 3/4 wood.
Hi Josh. I am trying this project tomorrow. Can you tell me what screws size did you use, also the nail sizes please. Thank you for the video. This will be my first wood project.
What did you charge for this job in terms of billable hours? Just did a paint estimate yday and they have 2 closets just like this one you've showed that they want open shelves built into. I got lucky today your vid was the 1st to pop up and exactly what I needed
So you’re basically using a 1x1 or I guess a 3/4 x 1 for the supports?

I can’t remember the model number right now but it’s a Bosch cross line laser level. One of the cheaper models. It works great
Hey! I’m actually following pretty much what you’re doing to build our wood shelves. I don’t think I have the appropriate screws though. What did you use? Or did you use a drillbit with the counterbore in it too? I want to be able to fill over the screw in paint it white again. Thanks for any help!
How far apart are they
What length screws did you use to attach the supports to the studs. Thx
love that idea! where did you get the small door if you don’t mind me asking?

I got it from a local door and trim shop near me. It’s the Masonite Winslow though, they are available a lot of places.
Awesome! What do u use to fill up the hedges?

Do you mean the edges? I used caulk
What is the distance between shelves or could be at my choice
Nice, what is the name of what you attached in the wardrobe that makes it easier to mark the lines

level
Also what nails did you use with the gun is it 18 gauge?
What the height of each shelf? I had a similar closet.
We’re those strips 3/4 inch thickness? And the height you cut them to 1 inch?
Awesome. Mind if I ask a few questions? How did you paint all three sides of those front strips without getting paint all over your fingers and having the strips stick to the tabletop? Also, what is that tool you used to make the roundover?

Late but idea for u Take a 1x2 furring board $1.50-2 @ box store cut in half or 4 equal pieces lay them down now put wood you’re painting right on top of them basically you’re just making mini saw horses that lay on table/ counter top’ Tip paint your edges first then roll out top’ Hope that helps

What I ended up doing is putting some 1.5" finish nails through some 1/2" thick scraps and setting the pieces I'm painting on the sharp ends. I can even paint both sides of a board at once.

@@Bapuji42 glad u got it sorted’ Answer to your question was 10 months late 🤣 perhaps it will help someone in the future reading through’ If you didn’t figure it out It’s a round over bit’ Most common are 1/8” or 1/4” rounder bit for router’
What is the name of the bit used to make the holes in the support trim for the screws?
@joshweightwoodworks

It’s a countersink drill bit
What size is that door? Is it custom
can you share the stud finder you used?

It’s the zircon hd55 I believe
What’s the tool you used to round the edges of the shelf?
@joshweightwoodworks

It’s just a 1/8” round over bit in a router
Wait is this ligit? He really said that in front of NATOnyahu? 😮
Why the caulking?
Is there trim on the inside of the door?

No there isn’t. The closet isn’t deep enough to even be able to get your head in and look back so I don’t even notice
What dimensions are you support strips?
@joshweightwoodworks
2 жыл бұрын
They are 3/4” thick and 1” tall
What type of nail gun and nails do you use in this?
@joshweightwoodworks

They are 18 gauge. I can’t remember the length but probably 1 1/2” or something like that.
How much weight would you say these shelves hold?
@joshweightwoodworks

Hard to say for sure but they are solid. We have them loaded up with soap, shampoo, candles, etc. and they don’t even flex or anything.
What size are the front strips ? That hang to cover the support strips
@joshweightwoodworks

They are about 1 3/4” tall
Come to my home and build one for me 😂😂😂
So it looks great but it's a shame that it's MDF because it's a bathroom and overtime MDF isn't the best choice near water . Your towels will become muffy smelling
Bruh... I aint got them machines lol wth

Tum log toh IKEA ko kha gaye... Pura!!!

Duh, How's that cheap? Did you add up costs of 1. Machinery used 2. Space Rent 3. Your Labour 4. Transportation cost of raw material 5. Electricity ?
easy with $6000 worth of tools
