DIY CLOSET MAKEOVER ON A BUDGET (PART 1) | IKEA Tarva Hack | Reach In Closet Upgrade
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
After 3 years of living in our modern Colonial style home in Virginia, we are finally ready to start renovating it, taking it one space at a time. I am starting in my daughter’s room and she desperately needed a more efficient use of space in her reach in closet. In this video I will be walking you through my DIY build out of her closet, with a little help of an IKEA hack, using two Tarva dressers for the drawers.

2’x4’ studs
3/4” birch plywood
Tarva dressers x2
1”x2” boards for face framing
Wood screws
Pocket hole screws

I am enjoying this video, thank you for talking about the "in my head it will take this long" phenomenon. I don't think I've ever finished a project where at the end I didn't say "wow, that was way harder and took much longer than I though". The funny part is I watch the Perkin Builder Brothers channel and even after 20 years of building houses they've said same thing! But I had to laugh at how you describe removing baseboards... "may need a hammer" and "gently pull the board away from the wall" - then watching you hammer away and need a two arm grab to release the baseboard. Even so, your baseboard came out incredibly easy! Every baseboard I've ever removed was installed by a crazy person who used a million extra-long brad nails and it took a herculean effort to detach.

Wow! I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for explaining why and how to do things instead of just focusing on the cool shots! It is very helpful to us newbies. I also admire how meticulous you are 👏 Definitely gonna tune in for part 2!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you saying that. I know my more in-depth approach isn’t for everyone, but that is exactly my goal - to help those who are just starting out and trying not to leave much up to question! Part 2 will be out later this week! 👏🏻👏🏻
Nice design for that closet! Thank you for showing the new Kreg pocket hole jig. I have a previous version of their jig & yours looks like it is much easier to use, especially when you have more than a handful to do. I also like the support wings for handling larger panels of wood.

hI Amanda came across your channel via youtube recommendation. first of all i am sooo impress esp women teaching themselves how to use power tool, i can tell you some of the tools are intimidating. your closet will come out great bc you have a good attitude to take your time to get the quality and a professional look, and yes everything takes longer and more money than projected. lastly i think fairly new with 80 sub but i dont doubt if you continue with this channel you will get 500k plus , your editing, directions and content are just as good as some of the other youtubers and will get better... good luck

Do you have a link to the dresser?
Nice!! The only thing I would change is the top height of the middle shelf. Even a few inches might have given you some extra storage at the top using that empty space up to the ceiling.

I need to redo my closet and really appreciated this video. I'm just wondering why the platform and way you went about the building shelves. Not being critical, in trying to learn. I would have thought I could buy components at IKEA and just screw them to the walls. But I'm guessing there's a reason you shouldn't do that? Great video btw. I watch a lot of these types of videos and normally I hate the music or the way things are explained or not explained, or how fast they do everything because it has it makes it hard to follow. But yours was really enjoyable to watch and easy to understand. Thank you!

I appreciate that so much, thank you! I’m brand new to this, so definitely still finding my flow with all of it. And yes, that’s a great question! IKEA has a great closet system that you can do loads of customization with, and I did consider that, but found that the depth dimensions didn’t work for this particular closet. 13” felt way too shallow and like not enough space, and the 24” depth was too deep, unfortunately. The dressers were a great happy medium! I decided to do the platform to give them a bit more height and to be able to create more of a custom built look. Thanks again for watching and good luck with yours!
I need the music during the first part of this video please!

Please tell me that you're wearing hearing protection when you use loud equipment.
Love the video! Lower the background music some though... very loud
i am the opposite of handy and the first to admit i know nothing. my question is, why didn’t you remove the wall in front of the closet? is that a supporting wall? wouldn’t you have had more room in the closet if that wasn’t there? thanks
@amandabrookehome
Жыл бұрын
Great question, and yes, I considered removing that center partition so many times because it would drastically help with functionality of the space. The reason I ultimately decided to leave it as is, was cost. It would have opened up a can of worms when it came to needing the flooring patched, needing new doors, etc. and I wanted to make this as budget friendly as possible.
With time you gonna build your workshop in the garage. believe me
Thank you for the excellent video, explanations, clarity, and professional presentation! The cutesy, giggly and screamy types on KZread are very hard to take. Just one teensy complaint- do you have to look so dang glamorous while completing such a difficult project? Just thinking about a new project makes my hair stand on end and my nails break off... 🙂 Congratulations on your new channel.

A bit of a random thing to comment on to be honest, but hats are another layer of safety for me when working with power tools. They help to keep my hair out of the way, sun out of my eyes when I’m cutting outside, etc. Safety first!

I'm actually surprised you took the time to explain yourself but great response! The only reason I was reading thru the comments was to find out if someone asked where you got the hat from, I think it's super cute and love the color! Please do share the brand or store you purchased 😊 Great tutorial btw, super helpful!!
