DIY Christmas Ornament - Hand turned and hollowed the easy way
It's that time of year so I thought I'd show how I make light weight hand turned Christmas ornaments. You don't need any special hollowing tools or fancy hollowing systems, just your standard turning tools. I started with two pieces of a limb that had been cut in half. The wood is Chinese Tallow and it is soft and light weight. Thanks for watching. Please Like, Subscribe and Share.

Beautiful work. You inspired me to start an annual tradition of a new ornament every Christmas. I will glue the finial with the smallest drop of my weakest glue so I can easily replace it when the dog knocks over the tree or it inevitably breaks in storage.

Nice job. Loved the great grandson coming in the shop. Mine is coming in January. 8 years old. If he's up to the required attention span and motor skills, I hope to have him make a pen for his mom. Fingers crossed.

Real nice Billy. That is really a pretty wood and I like the shape. Must be the time of year. A few days ago I turned 2 Christmas items. Next weeks will be one of them. Not wanting to give away what they are you will just have to wait and see 🎄 Take care buddy! Gary

Good job Billy! Looks good! 👍🇺🇸 I finally got out in the shop today worked on Sycamore bowl. Got results from my MRI. Ends up I got a cyst on my spinal cord between 4-5 lumbar. Type cyst is usually 95% benign, but it’s going to give me good and bad days. Go see a specialist Wednesday for options. Have a great Holiday Season my friend..

Can you put that tape measure on the smallest part of the finial I'm curious how small you guys can make them
@TheMessyStudio
11 ай бұрын
Sorry, I can't post a picture on the comments, but it measures 1/8" at the thinnest part. But I've made them smaller... about 1/16". But the wood has to be a tight straight grain for that.
That's beautiful. I have to try that. What kind of dye do you use? I've been looking for something that colors without hiding the grain.

@@TheMessyStudio Thanks Billy. Looks like a good idea.
This video was instructive but hard to watch. I was distracted by the white stain on his shirt. It looked like a bird had relieved itself on his shirt. But he did a good job turning the ornament.
