About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on KZread videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

My dad grew up during the 40's and they always had chickens, ducks, rabbits and pigeons in the back yard. In the 70's we were watching Foghorn leg horn and he decided I needed to experience raising chickens. He made a simple pen like yours but he just used old window screens or storm windows with chicken wire, took five of them and nailed them together with the ends being one half of a window frame, one being hinged. He put a rubber tarp or something on top, an open wooden keg with straw and the two hens laid in there. Simple, cheap and fast with no lumber work.

Looks like a lovely home for some chickens!
That's a nice looking tractor. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
Great looking coop, well thought out. Have a Blessed day.
That Was Cool Jason Thanks For Sharing Your Chicken Tractor Build! Much❤Love & 🙏🏻😇🙏🏻God Bless 😘
I just built this! I’m so thankful for your content 🥰 and I’m so excited to get my meat chicken.
Jason, can I offer a suggestion? I was thinking about this watching Justin Rhodes too and I wondered if maybe you guys put a small hook on the top you could have a place to keep the rope up of the ground. That would save you from bending down to grab the rope and also keep it out of the mud or from getting frozen in ice in the winter, too. 😊 Have a great day! ❤️

Sow the Land 👍🏽
I love all your build videos, keeping it simple. Master of simplicity
Started this tractor and love it. Have some bantams that were going to keep in here, plenty of space for them. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Love this! I need to build a couple of these for enlisting help our birds to clear the grass growing along our woodchipped paths in our food forest. Our hens would love it!
Fantastic build video, Jason! Great looking tractor and I love the small size!
Very cool! I like the idea of having two to rotate around for your meat runs- a little easier to move, some redundancy, and easy to keep consistent production without mixing bird ages
Nice. I love how you show your building. It is very nice. Thank you and God bless y’all.
Solid build. I've been kicking around the idea of "pasture" raising some meat birds at our house, but wanted to keep it fairly low key. This looks great.
Love this! We need the larger size this year, because we’ve got ten acres and an insanely bad tick infestation, But in future we might do smaller groups. I Love this design!
Really like this Jason and thank you for sharing. Blessings to you and your family.
Ikea of chicken tractors..you are so funny..love the overhang for shade..happy chickens.
I really enjoy watching you build things. You are so meticulous.
Don't get no simpler, than that! Cool tractor!😊❤
Hi...... Jason nice to see you and it amazing nice chicken coop build, thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 👕🐔🐓🐥🌱🎥👍👍👍

You have become a great builder. Love the coop!👍😊
This is what I was asking about in just a few past videos! Thanks Jason! 😊👍🐓🐓🐓🐓
Really needed this particular info this week!!! Liked and appreciated content.
Thanks for the ideas.
Great job on the chicken tractor. 👍🐔
Awesome build video! That's the perfect little tractor for smaller flocks.
👍👍👍👍 You make things look so easy Have a good day 🌻🌻🌻
Everyone, help our fav content providers out and watch the ADs. 🙂👍🏻
Well done sir, on all accounts. I've seen a lot of chicken tractors and I like this the best! Thanks for sharing. I subscribed and I'm looking forward to seeing more videos. Take care
Love the freebie! Keep up the great work!
I don’t know why you have any dislikes. Great video brother, you truly are an inspiration. I’m actually in the process of moving to Trade Tennessee (North Easternmost part) and am planning to do just as you. I have a 31.4 acre lot but it’s mostly hill (former beef land) , so I’ll have to overcome that obstacle. You as well as many others on KZread are what’s keeping me on track and helping me learn as much as I can. Thank you for all that you do.
Awesome and simple, thank you for sharing it!
Literally this weekend's project thanks man!!!!

Awesome Jason.
Thanks so much for sharing! I'm actually wanting to make one for my indoor cats, so they can be outside with me when I'm doing yardwork. 😉😊😊😊
Good job Jason 🐣🐥🐓
Thank you for sharing this with me for free!!
That’s a great little build dude.
ahh this was super helpful! thanks! don't need to build a chicken tractor but I needed to know how to make a box like this haha, thanks! great video!
Thank you! This is perfect. I have some 1x1 and only have 6 laying girls that need to get out and work out soon to be garden spot!
You are my favorite channel. I hope the you will grow quickly
Cool man, this is very close to what I want to do! Time to make my scrap pile variant.
This was the greatest. I want to be able to move my 3 hens in the back yard to fertilize the grass.
I like it !! Thanks Jason. 🐓🐓🐓
Awesome, great job! 👏🏼
This looks so good
THANKS, for the plans
Having the lid flip over for shade is genius! For ease, someone could have two 2x4 boards ripped down the middle (Like you did for the frame) to put on the ground to prop up the lid for more stability or have two legs fashioned/ secured on the lid so they flip off and stand themselves when the lid is opened with a hinge or something (?) That doesn't make sense, does it? lol. It makes sense in my head though lol!! Thank you for the plans!
Love this tractor!
You do very good woodwork.
Great video, shoutout from South Africa

Looks great lucky 🐓 chickens and they get shade too 🙌
Thankyou for sharing this video , i'm having trouble finding land to rent so i'm having to start at a much smaller scale here at my home garden in the uk . Thankyou for the free plans .
Thanks. We added a handle to the lid, and chain so the lid doesn't fall all the way back and rip the hinges off. We put a kick stand board on the lid. When it's open, we unhook the chain, and the kick stand comes down to support the lid.
Thank you Jason..
that looks nice great idea
Thank you for sharing this. Makes me wonder if I could really get some meat chickens after all!
This is amazing !!!!
Cool tractor.
Great job👍🏻👏
Love the video
Nice and simple 💚🌱💚
Excellent!
I was just trying to find a good video thx
Nice build, with reasonable a price for someone starting a few chickens in the backyard. I know it’s meant for meat birds, but it could be used to grow out a few egg layers.

yes, for sure. maybe some rabbits too. thanks!
❤this better than large one
Good job.
Man, I get a little jealous of your tools! I might be a girl but I still love to build some stuff. Love the tractor it looks really good. The only thing I think I would do differently is put a bit of a pitch on the roof to keep it from holding water. Even then, it's not really that big of an area so it can't hold too much water after a storm. Other than that it looks lightweight but sturdy enough to keep the critters out. Great idea.

Looks good
Very cool, thx!
Very nice 👍🏼
FYI you should run those 3” screws flush to just set into the wood the deeper you drive it the less wood there is on the head for strength and it will pull apart easier
*PARABÉNS AMIGO PELO PROFISSIONAL QUI É DEUS ABENÇOE FAMÍLIA*
That's a decent size for a little covey of 4-5 coturnix quail, too, if you make it a little shorter in height.
Very nice. The design should be a easy, if one has knowledge of building.
Nice!!
Nice!
Gracias lo voy aser
Like the chick tractor.
Maybe put a 2x2 on each end running across the structure and over hanging hinge side a foot or two to support the top shade door and take the strain off the hinges when open. (wind/gravity)
One of the benefits of being a designer, one can scale back any design we like. I noticed you are really burying those screws into the wood? Great video, cheers.

I did not have long enough screws. 😃
I found cross bracing everything with a corner of glue and plywood was the most frugal option.
IKEA of chicken tractors. Now that's funny! 😆😆😆
The world would be a better place if we had more families like yours! ❤
So I’m a newbie when it come to woodworking and was wondering if anybody has the cut list for this project ?
Love this smaller size chicken tractor! Just one question- do the chickens need a place to roost inside the chicken tractor? Thanks, love your channel!
Hi please kindly post the plans.
Hello Jason! I have a question for you: why don't you put anything in the bottom/base/flor of the tractor? Here in Europe there are a lot of hens predators (foxes for example) and they are able to lift or dig and go inside to kill our birds during the night. Maybe a net could help from this point of view, even if you should have more problems to move the tractor with the animals and let them eat from the ground. So I would like what do you think about it. Thanks!!!
Nice chicken tractor Jason. Wouldn't the chickens need a perch off the ground to roost on or will they sleep on the ground? Love your channel & family.
@SowtheLand

meat chickens don't need a perch. you can. but not necessary. thanks
Hello Jason, would you use this for laying hens? Is it practical for year round housing, of just as an alternative to free range ?
This was great. One question about predators though. You didn´t use anything in the bottom. Couldn´t a predator dig under? :)
@SowtheLand

That could happen. Never happened to me. The important thing is to always be moving them around.
Where will they roost at night?
