DIY Cement Pot Using a Basket and Papercrete
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Hi everyone! In this video I used an old laundry basket to make a cement pot out of papercrete. I think the result turned out great. This is a large cement planter that you can easily and cheaply make at home. You can use any size basket you would like. Papercrete makes the final product lightweight yet very durable. As you can see the basket made a cool geometric pattern on the pot.
Thanks for watching and feel free to ask any questions!

Seeing two pots, my heart became a garden.
I use saran wrap and then packing tape, it comes right off.

Do you use Quick Crete or Porters Cement? What ratio Cement to water do you use? Thanks 😊. I am fixing to try for the first time.
Nice. i watch a lot of videos of people making flower pots. Most of the pots are beautiful, then the creators ruin them with gaudy colors that complete with the colors of the plants or flowers they put into them. I prefer either the natural color of the cement or subtle colors like your brown and tan. I refurbished all of our old faded and sometimes cracked plastic pots 2 years ago for about 10% of what it would have cost to buy new ones. I repaired the broken ones and painted them all in shades of brown &/or tan or one or two shades of green. Many admirers ask me where I bought them. Now I am contemplating making some cement pots and I am certainly not going to paint them bright orange and purple.
I LOVE the natural look without the paint.

Me too!
Wow, absolutely love this idea.
Just found your channel because I was inspired to make some concrete projects and you mentioned Ron’s nursery in a prior video and I had to take a double take! I live on 6 street :)) Super excited to check out your videos and make some planters! Just have to get my hands on a mixing drill 💕

That is awesome! I live a few hours away from there. You can also use a blender to mix the paper pulp if you don't have a mixing drill.
@12:37 Wow! This project looks easy enough for me to try it. I have been wanting to get new planters for the front of our home but the prices are ridiculously high for cement planters. You have inspired me and I can't wait to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

I did mine with Petemoss in place of the paper pulp. It keeps the planter from being heavy and I used a cardboard box and packing peanuts and a trash bag to make the planter look like a huge boulder, it is a much better look, and more realistic. I look like a superwoman when I move it around lol. Just be sure you do not make the cement mixture too runny. I did the first try with another box inside to make the chamber for the potting soil. it seems to work better than the hand-packing of the cement mixture. Poring is easier than placing the cement in by hand. Oh, and the center box was covered by another trash bag to avoid a soggy box. or just fill the bag with something to make a place for the soil. it was a lot of fun and my failures made great fake rocks and gravel so no waisted cement and Pete moss. I just put them around my trees to reduce evaporation to save water. good luck

Beautiful, the pot is great as well Thank for a great job
Very nice and easy method. One suggestion is to put an 16 or 18 inch tile on top to level the to rim, keep the edge smooth. and keep it there for the drying process to keep the planter in shape.
I am definitely going to make this cement pot...LOVE IT
Wow! I love this . I will try this duo the summer months .

That's pretty cool. I've never seen this before.
Wow. This is amazing and a must try. Love it 😍
You're so talented! Loved this
this ended better than i thought it would have. WELL DONE! my two cents : after finishing paint, id add to the vertical and horizonal grooves left by the "mold" Vertical groove: fit wooden dowels from top to bottom (one dowel per groove) Horizontal groves: fit twisted twine or soft metal wire aound the pot (one per grove) this would give it a nice aesthetic and if done with strong materials, would reinforce the pot itself. keep up the good work!!!

@@shaggydog5409 the best, most valuable things in life tend to take time and effort. If something is quick and simple then there is little value in it unless your particular skill makes it look quick and simple but then you put the time and effort to get to that level. Make sense?

Paper pulp- 3 parts per Portland Cement- 2 parts per Sand (l use all purpose type)- 1 part per Mix together well (can add more water if needed maybe?) Add to a saranwrapped/packing taped laundry basket, working it about an inch and a half thick+ Make hole for drainage Cover and let dry two days Remove tape all around but leave tape on underneath Smooth outer edges, where it caked onto basket weaves. Let dry completely- two more days? Peel tape off bottom Pour water (nit sure temperature, I'd say warm?) over bottom until pot is completely wet Carefully remove basket from cement Smooth top edges if desired Done! (Did my vbest considering the lack of directions)
Beautiful❤

Many years ago I did a lot of hypertufa.Same concept.@0 + years ago i covered an ole free standing sink with the hypertufa mix and it is still standing outside. I did bowls, troughs, a ball to use in a fountain and leaves to make bird baths. .Over working the tufa will make it less sturdy.
Loved the video
love it

Hi Char, thx for sharing this great idea! It was help if there was a list of items used. I wasn’t sure of some of the products you used (eg sanding block, type of paint).

Du hast Talent, gefällt mir sehr gut, Dankeschön für die dolle Idee ❤

neat idea but can't see it lasting very long cause of paper rotting etc. Have you looked on here and seen people making aquariums using foam and cement brushed on you should do that when dry brush a layer of runny cement over the whole thing it will seal it and make it look better
Wonderful work's artist

Muito bom 👍🤠🌻🌵🌳🌲
Lindo ,ótima idéia ,qBeautiful, great idea, how whimsical and, you just have to let it cure, leave your vase wet for 1 week, otherwise in 1 year the cement will crumble, you have to go through the cure

I love it ! Has it held up when using for a planter or is that what u used it for.
شكرا لكى فكرة جميلة جدا
Absolutely beautiful pot! Do you find that you can grow most anything in there or do thr pots dry out too quickly? Do your plants seem to do well in your pots? I LOVE THIS IDEA THANK YOU! 💕
Try GLAD Press 'n Seal. The back of the plastic wrap is coated with a Post it Note "something". It will lightly stick to most everything. And, you can see through it!

Shred paper with a paper shredder or rip newspapers junk mail etc. soak in a large bucket with water stir a couple days . Either use and old blender to purée or buy attachment from hardware store to mix cement with attach to a drill and whirl the paper then add your sand cement mix together again
I am wondering about dry time in humid Florida. Should it go I. The un in the humidity or in the garage with a fan?
