    So for the adjustment screws. Once u set the gauges do u tighten or loosen the screws? If u do tighten do u tighten hard? Nice vid btw!

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    It depends on the vacuum pressure readings on the gauges. For example if the vacuum pressure on carburetor 1 is higher than carburetor 2 you will tighten the adjustment screw, but if carburetor 2 has a higher vacuum pressure then carburetor 1 you will loosen the adjustment screw. The adjustment screws all have springs on them to keep tension on the screws and prevent them from backing out from the engine vibrations. So when I tighten the screws I don't tighten hard like when torquing a bolt. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    Hey willow kicker here again, could you tell me how the air fuel screw works on these carbs does screwing them in richen or lean out the carbs? It's a fuel screw not an air screw if I'm correct in my thinking so screwing out half a turn should richen it a bit? It's not a huge fan of my new k&n filter and d&d exaust pipe I'm guessing, it runs fine when it's warm and horrible when it's cold so I reckon it's running lean at the moment

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Kicker! You are right, it's a fuel screw. It's recommended to start at 2 turns out. 3 turns out will richen it and 1turn will lean it out. Most exhaust systems will recommend installing a jet kit that has #152 main jets on carburetors 2 & 3 and shims on all the needles to richen it depending on your altitude or elevation. I don't usually do air/fuel adjustments without an exhaust analyzer hooked up because it shows each individual cylinder air/fuel ratio's and how well it burns the fuel. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    Can i synch throttle bodies on 04 R1 with this type of gauges, are they precise enough, i think that vacuum values are 22 kPa (165 mmHg) at engine idling. I saw this type of gauges on ebay. Where did you buy yours. Problems that i have with my 04 R1 is that she wont start normal (longer cranking) when hot or cooled down a little, she starts ok when applying little throttle, she starts ok when cold. Engine work normal, no strange sounds (ticking, rattling, exhaust backfiring) fuel consumption within specs, pulls strong.

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes you can sync the throttle bodies on a 04 R1 with this type of gauge. It's not as accurate as a mercury gauge set, but it's accurate enough to balance the carburetors and about 1/4 of the price. I got my gauge set from Amazon, I posted a link for the gauge set I bought in the description of this video. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    Hello where does the vent and overflow go to? Because I just got the bike and it doesn't have that 2 pipes on the fuel tank

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    The vent and overflow tubes go down from the fuel tank and route down past the mount for the anti freeze overflow tank on the left side of the motorcycle and then continue down to a loop on the kickstand mount and just hang down a couple inches past the kickstand loop. They don't connect to anything and are supposed to be open so they can drain any excess fuel spillage underneath the bike. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    I did not adjust the air/fuel (pilot screws) in this video. I adjusted the carburetor synchronization screws. You have to drill the carburetors at certain points to gain access to the pilot screws if it hasn't been drilled out by you or a previous owner already. I recommend using an exhaust analyzer when adjusting the air/fuel ratio. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    Synchronizing the carburetors isn't difficult and you really don't have to take much off to get to the adjustment screws. Remove seat, hinge tank up and remove the air box. I would charge $100-$150 to sync the carburetors, but if you buy a cheap gauge set you should be able to do it yourself under $50. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    What’s the goal vacuum your trying to reach for a r6?

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    2 жыл бұрын

    When syncing the carburetors you're not trying to reach a goal vacuum number. So it doesn't matter if its 5, 10 or 2 HG. You just want to make sure that all 4 carburetors are reading the same vacuum numbers. So for example if it's 2HG then make sure all 4 of them are 2HG. You won't know what HG until you start balancing them. Start with carburetor 1 and 2, get them reading the same HG numbers, then move to carburetor 3 and 4 get them reading the same HG numbers (the 1&2 carburetors will probably be a different HG number than the 3&4 carburetors), then you can balance the 2 and 3 carburetors and all 4 carburetors should read the same vacuum numbers. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    It sounds like you are missing a lot of stuff, I can try and help. There's a link to a Service manual in the description of this video, it will show you the bike layout. The vacuum lines hook the carburetors together and then hook up to a vacuum canister. The pump you hear running at the back of the motor is the fuel pump. There is diagrams in the Service manual that show how the fuel lines are routed to the fuel pump and from the fuel pump to the carburetors. I hope this helps you. Thanks for watching!

    Is the bike running while doing this ? Also why aren’t the needles moving much ??

  • @WillowsWorldofDIY

    @WillowsWorldofDIY

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes the motor has to be running and warmed up to sync the carburetors. Mechanical gauges aren't as accurate as a manometer style gauge set, so they don't move as much at low vacuum pressures, especially because you have to close the valves some to get the gauge needles to stop jumping all over the place. Also I'm only blipping the throttle so the motor isn't revving up much and there's not much vacuum pressure at idle. These Mechanical gauges worked good and i noticed a big difference at lower rpm and idle after I made the adjustments. Plus they are about 1/3 of the price of manometer gauges. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for watching!

Is the throttle cable adjusted too tight? Is the choke on or sticking in the on position? Have you or anyone made adjustments the the Carburetor (Air fuel mixture Screws or carb sync screws)?
