For an European like me - it’s unbelievable how she made a hole in the wall 😂😂 My daughter wanted to do the same - we needed the expertise from an structural engineer - and then it needed a lot of time to fix it - because the wall is from concrete wall. Chapeau - good job for sure 👏 Love from Austria/Europe 🇦🇹

The Billy bookcases are so great, I just bought a few (Was difficult to get them) and made over my MB closet. I LOVE the built in idea and you did it all by yourself - you are awesome. I really like your channel, just found you 2 weeks ago and am watching your older videos along with your new ones.

Thank you! Thanks for the idea for using them in a closet. I’m going to be making over my closet sometime in the future!
Absolutely love this video. We are doing the same thing on our fireplace wall. We only have room for one Billy bookcase on each side. We frameed them in. Then we built a new wall above the fireplace that is even with the bookcases. I did a vertical ship lap on that new wall where the TV will go. Everything is done except for painting and a few trim pieces. I loved what you did!

Amazing! I'm attempting something similar in January. On the Ikea website the doors seem to have the handle holes pre-drilled. But your cabinet doors came without holes right? And where did you get the handles? :) Thanks in advance
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
So the doors are technically pretty-drilled but not all the way through. So from the front, it looks like there is no hole. Here are my cabinet pulls- www.lowes.com/pd/Brainerd-Square-Bar-3-in-Center-to-Center-Matte-Black-Rectangular-Bar-Cabinet-Door-Pull/1002690870?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-hdw-_-ggl-_-LIA_HDW_213_Decorative-Hardware-_-1002690870-_-0-_-0-_-0&ds_rl=1286981&gclid=CjwKCAjwiY6MBhBqEiwARFSCPjpqE2l_nYjgIP3NFZzQCSOEbgZxJgW3B9OAQ4Obu3ip2roO5m4W0hoC1tgQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Your tutorial is by far the BEST! My only question is how did you connected the TV ? Can I also know the measurements for the TV space? .thanks
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I wish I would have included this in the video. The cord for the tv runs behind the shiplap and into the cabinets (I cut a hole in the side of the bookshelf). There are outlets behind the cabinets so I cut a hole in the back of the cabinets to access the outlet. The tv/shiplap area is 96” tall and about 66” wide.
You are so inspiring!!

@KelseyRomitoDIY

Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean. I made sure to check the height was ok with my husband since he’s the one who uses the tv the most.
Kelsey I am impressed!!! Great job girl! Tell me how did you know what kind of wood and what size you should buy? I have 3 peace’s of ikea here and I would like to transform them into a library ( big bookcase)… please help me with your ideas……
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! When deciding on wood for this project, I knew I wanted to go with primed pine because it’s very smooth and less expensive compared to poplar or oak. As for the size I needed, I measured from the tops of the bookcases to the ceiling because I knew I wanted it to be enclosed.
Looks awesome. This really helped me decide what to do for my similar project. Would you mind telling me what the length of the wall was? Also please please please put a riving knife on your table saw!!!
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This wall is 16 ft wide. Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look into that.
Hey! Love it! Just curious if you made pocket holes for electric? How did you plug your sound bar in? Also are there outlets inside the cabinets? ❤️
@KelseyRomitoDIY
Жыл бұрын
There are outlets in the walls behind the cabinets. I cut a hole in the back of the cabinet and used surge protectors. The cords come down behind the tv and fireplace and through the side of the cabinet.
Wow, I'm so impressed!! Great job. You got me rethinking spending the thousands a contractor quoted me.
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes this project would have cost soooo much more if I had a contractor do it for me!
Thanks for this. Pretty darn amazing. I’m trying to do a feature wall as well. Honestly mine isn’t coming together as well as yours. I’m sorta the opposite side of you age wise (78) with lots of home deco experience, moderate home diy and reno abilities but no building skills with paper saws. Will you share with us please your own experience and background regarding prior wood projects, remodeling, experience with power tools etc? What did you use as the interior vertical panels on the Billy bookcases? Does Ikea make these panels as tall as the Billys with added extension? Finally, did you build a frame on the tops to support your top molding trim or tack the trim to an anchored block? Big thanks for your help and best of success with your channel!
@KelseyRomitoDIY
2 жыл бұрын
Lots of people asking about my experience with tools and remodeling. Maybe I should do a q&a video soon? The original billy bookshelf comes with an interior panel that you nail on the back. The extension pieces also come with a back piece. So it all blends together and looks like one big unit. For the top trim piece, I used the nail gun to shoot it right onto the billy shelf (holding the trim board to make sure it was laying flat against the billy so it wouldn’t be slanted backward). Once I caulked all the way around, it was completely secure. (If I had a bigger gap, I definitely would have used an anchor block to nail into) Hope this helps! ❤️❤️
@Isleskye
2 жыл бұрын
@@KelseyRomitoDIY Thanks a bunch! I didn’t explain myself well as to my query about the vertical panels. I was speaking of what appears right to be tall vertical side panels within the TV section middle. It looks like you attached tall white vertical panels to your left set of stacked bookcases on their right vertical exterior sides where your TV section begins. Then again added a tall white panel on your right set of stacked bookcases where the middle TV section joins that right set of bookcases. Put another way, your middle tv section appears to be flanked left and right by solid white panels attached to the TV section sides of your stacked Billy bookcase units. If you did add 2 tall white panels to demarcate the middle TV section and reduce notice where the top bookcase extensions join the bottom sections- I was hoping you would explain where you got those color matched panels. They match so well! Or did you paint the whole beautiful wall white after you built it? Oh and a Question and Answer video would be excellent!
Hey, you could get a cheap motion sensor light switch for the closet, or else they make something called a door jam switch which installs in the door frame and when the door opens it activates the light (the same way a fridge light works)

I love what you made and I’m so glad you shared it with the world. We are working on a similar project and I was wondering how you handled the carpet. After the shelves are installed, how do I keep the carpet from shifting? Can I nail the carpet down right in front of the base of the shelves?

I don’t think I included it in the video(definitely should have) but I screwed through the back panel directly into the wall. Also through the side panels that are touching a wall. Then I used a few screws on the other sides of the shelves to screw the bookshelves together. Hope this makes sense!
