DIY BUILD - ABOVE THE TANK BASKING AREA FOR MY RED EAR SLIDERS! 10gallon DIY turtle basking tank sitting on top of my 60 gallon freshwater fish tank. This was a fun build, I hope this video gave you another idea for your turtle basking areas. The total cost for this build was around $58
Tank $10
Tiles $20
Lid $20
Lighting diffuser $8
The lighting diffuser (egg crate) can be used on other builds. I also used it on my DIY 20gallon basking tank.
I hope you enjoyed the video. Please share, like, and subscribe.

    When the turtle gets solder it will start attacking the fish trying to eat them and since you have a young turtle you have to be careful in a large tank it can drown easily but I like that setup, in the long run, it will be great once the turtle gets larger.

    Genius idea! Question, I have a full grown female red eared slider. Shes he hefty with a 10x9 shell & she’s definitely strong. Wondering if you think that floating log would be enough to support a large turtle climbing it & if you have any ideas on what I might secure that top tank to the bottom tank with. Something removable but that will give it extra security from being shifted? Anyone ideas would be appreciated 🙏

  • @TheFishCorner

    Thank you! I really appreciate it. As for your big girl. I think the wood ramp will support her but it you need more support. You can definitely modify the ramp. You can add a second ramp next to it and join them with zip ties. You can also zip tie the ramp to the bottom tank bracing. Leaving enough slack For the ramp to rise and fall slightly with the water level. And as for securing the tank better. I would recommend Velcro tape. It’s really strong and will serve it’s purpose. I hope that helps.

    very nice and clean look i was thinking of doing the same but i couldnt put my thought together. this helps out alot :) i already made a basking area. the old egg crate one. but i realised heat is escaping since all the walls are egg crate. so gonna do this instead. as for the ramp. the ramp tho i think my turtle gets annoyed by it but she goes up there. but im thinking of tryin to find a more natural way of doing it. my turtle is 12 years old. how did you put the log to attatch to the bottom of the basking area?

  • @TheFishCorner

    @TheFishCorner

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thank you very much! I’m glad I could help you! You’re right, the heat definitely escapes through the egg crate. It’s also not a very clean look. I made another 20 gallon basking tank and put it on my 125 gallon fish tank. The video is on my channel. If you have time, check it out. As for the log, I purchased cork bark from petco, you can also order it from amazon. Then I put a hole in it with a screwdriver and zip tied it to the egg crate platform under the tile. The turtles love it. Since it’s so natural, they don’t slide off and it’s very easy for them to grab ahold of it.

Might go for the Diamondback Terrapin next round, but i was wondering if i can do an above tank basking area in a 40 gallon breeder with a 2 inch turtle? There will be lots of plants and driftwood but what do you think? Is that too deep for such a small turtle? Thanks

    UVA AND UVB rays will NOT go through glass, screen or plastic. The topper looks great but you need to remove a small part of the top part of the glass for the rays to get through. That's way turtle toppers don't have solid plastic covers. Plus they have a usable door for easy access to your turtle.

  • @TheFishCorner

    You’re replying to a video that’s almost 3yrs old. I made 3 more basking tanks the same way since then. They all worked for me, you can get the glass out any way you want. I’m too impatient and my time is too valuable to sit there and try to remove a piece of glass that I didn’t plan to reuse. Not to mention I gave a good example of how to control the glass. If you can’t deal with a little glass, you don’t need to be attempting this in the first place.
