    Hey man thanks so much for this vid! Wish I had 1/4th of your skills. 2 months away from finishing my first home and want to deck the attic space above my garage. Two questions: - type and thickness of plywood you’d recommend? (Will store some heavy totes and items) - electrical sitting on joists (fastened), should I put a spacer down or pick the electrical up and slide boards in under the wire? Or cut notches into joist tops to seat wires in? I’m so lost on it, any tips would be much appreciated!

  • @TheExcellentLaborer

    @TheExcellentLaborer

    I would recommend three-quarter inch plywood subfloor. You can drill holes for the wires in the joists. That should not be a problem. I hope that helps!

    Is “cushioning” ceiling joists to make them attic floor joists common for livable attic space or did you just do it that way because you are using your attic for strictly storage?

    Hi there, The Excellent Laborer, thanks for the great video. Man...you have to ask your Dad about your genealogy, you definitely must have Spider Man genes in ya to be able to balance like that and cut ply. You have just become one of my new favorite super heroes. Not sure if you have kids...but let them know if you do. I can only wish I had such agility and balance. You deserve the 10K subs for that alone. Your idea for extended storage in the attic is great. Thanks, H.D.H. [: { ].

    Ive been going up the attic for the last 3 months several times to contain a leak and yesterday I finally went through, luckily not all the way, natural reaction of my arms kept me hanging by the joists but I destroyed a big piece of sheetrock. I would like to do something similar. Are these boards you chose what is topically put on attic flooring? Do they bend whe you step in the middle in between the two trusses?

  • @TheExcellentLaborer

    @TheExcellentLaborer

    Yes you can use in advantech up to 2 foot on center spacing. As long as your floor is designed to hold weight. It will work.

    You know what building codes are for right ? Do You know how fast truss systems fail when impacted by fire ? Adding weight and storage to a truss system that isn’t intended for it is a danger to the occupants and Fire fighters in the event of a Fire . But contractors don’t care , once the job is done and check is cashed it’s no longer your problem

  • @framnerdan

    @framnerdan

    3 жыл бұрын

    I feel that if the trusses were comprised do to a fire the occupants would no longer be in the structure. Also if the trusses were compromised due to fire, firefighters also would retreat and contain the fire to the one structure from outside. Trust me I know! Storage in the attic, pure genius.
