DIY Artists Vertical Easel for painting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I made this easel for my son, but ended up making a DIY video as well. Or if you want me to build you one, follow my Instagram page @chris10senofficial and DM me for rates.
The beauty of this easel is two fold. It holds the canvas by stretching it instead of condensing, and the canvas is held perfectly vertical causing less glare on your work.

Great video!! I like how you showed every step and even the small details that most people would skip. The only thing I would change is the way the canvas is mounted. Sometimes I paint with some heavy strokes and I think it might move or fall off. Maybe you can demonstrate how rough you can be with it and it won’t fall off?

Hi Darlene, the canvas is mounted with those points pulling the canvas instead of condensing it. I saw a guy that makes a super expensive easel and got the idea from that. I’ll have to ask my son about how rough he is with it, I made it for him for art school. I’ll keep this in mind and talk to him about it.

@@chris10sen is the guy Mark Carder? The least you could do is give him credit for the design. I can tell that you drew inspiration from both his super cheap diy easel and his expensive one.

Nice video. Been thinking about making a easel. Like the dry wall hanger idea Tho probably use knob nut instead of the fly nuts to make it easier to tighten. And add some locking casters to move it

I'm going to change to knobs also. I never have luck with locking casters being still enough. I ended up putting rubber feet on the bottom.

Yeah it’s hard when you don’t. I worked my way up to these tools over several years. Bought most things at garage sales or borrowed from friends. And a lot of things can be done with non-electric tools like hand saws. You just have to be creative and start somewhere with what you have. I’m not fancy by any means and there’s so much I don’t know how to do and so many tools I don’t have. You can do this. If you don’t have a tool and have a question let me know and I’ll see what ideas I can come up with. You can do this Dimi.

Great video. How to be sure the dimensions won't cause mounted painting to topple? Like what is the heaviest weight that should be mounted? My daughter is doing some 24"x36" stretched canvases and then to be framed.

Hi Lydia, in my opinion that size wouldn’t even come close to causing this easel to topple over. But if you are unsure, you could always place some sort of weight on the opposite side, the part that’s on the floor away from you. My son has done some 36” tall paintings with no problem.
