I was hoping there wasn’t marring or scratches. Luckily there wasn’t any. That was insane to use a power drill just to remove the silicone that could have made it worse.

Thank you! Your video with the addition of all the comments helped me change my valve cover gasket yesterday. No leaks after a drive, but I did trip the check engine light which also lit up the traction light, tire pressure light, and power steering light because I forgot to plug in a connecter. Rewatching the video solved that problem. Just need an OBD2 to clear the codes now

Appreciate the step-by-step visuals, easy to follow and makes an intimidating (though easy in actuality) repair something I felt good about tackling. Some videos skip showing certain steps and makes it seem like the repair magically does itself. The fact that this video shows things like tools dropping was informative because it taught me there are certain parts of the repair prone to errors happening. Forewarned is forearmed, thanks coach!

I'd also recommend a small extendable mechanics mirror, you can see if the gasket is indeed seated on the backside because as you showed....it's a bugger keeping it in the valve cover. Thanks again for diving in and sharing your experience.

3 recommendations 1 is putting rtv on the gasket and cover before putting it on to secure it into place, not alot, just a light application 2 is USE A GASKET SKRAPER! No need to nick any aluminum 3 always be sure that you don't spray into the head, just apply enough to a old rag to clean the mating surface of the head to gasket.

My one tip that I didn't see anyone else say is when you're breaking loose all 10 valve cover bolts just go around and do it, then take extension and finish them all by hand instead of taking the extension off & on the ratchet 10 times. Thanks for putting this together. I just did the valve cover gasket (along with the seals and grommets) on my 2004 Honda Accord. This is probably the same difficulty, but in a different way than the 2004 Honda. With the 04, I pulled the power steering hose away from the power steering unit since it went over the corner of the cover. I don't see that issue here. But for this generation, there's a LOT more electrical connections to disconnect (but at least the power steering hose isn't an issue). Is there a reason you didn't do the grommets and seals while you had it off? One criticism would be cleaning parts sitting inside the car. You could have easily gotten brake fluid/cleaner on your paint. Far better (in my opinion) to put things on the ground, away fro the car, to clean them. Think I'll pull the negative battery connection as well to be on the safe side. All in all, nice work!

There is another evacuation port at 11:25 going toward the high pressure fiul pump one toward the main air duct and one back to the intake manifold. I adjusted it and it’s been good so far. It’s not replaceable on this year as it’s built in to the valve cover. So far so good. A spark plug tube seal was only leaking on one cylinder. Honestly I haven’t had that happen with this car. But you can try lifting the cover to apply tension to the bolt to see if it helps. Otherwise we may need to somehow heat up the nut without melting the cover or breaking the cover off and extracting it after. If it’s spinning the recessed thread that holds it in place is moving and maybe you can try to lift up on the nut somehow to pop it out the recessed thread.

The valve cover didn’t have any silicone on it, just the mating surface on the cylinder head. Applying silicone would have made it easier to make the gasket stay in place but it wasn’t necessary. Thanks for the comment! Cheers

Try this procedure to relearn idle values after you have double checked connections. You will need to clear the light with either a scan tool or disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. You do not need an HDS which is a higher end scan tool. May need to repeat procedure multiple times. imgur.com/a/puckNYl
