Dixie Dregs with Jordan Rudess 4/17/2024 “I’m Freaking Out”

Музыка

Sorry I did t get the whole thing, but Rudess played an entirely different opening (yes - it was awesome), and I was beyond shocked that they played it! Sorry if there wasn’t much low end, but that’s how it was in the balcony. The sound system in the Capitol Theater is woefully inadequate, and the room just doesn’t sound very good at all, but sometimes you gotta do what you’ve got to do!
In spite of Rod Morgenstein having bad in ear monitor problems at first, they still played a fabulous show!

It's great that a sound like this is happening around the world, I remember when vinyl was released in Brazil around 1980. Long live, thank you hugs

Hey, thanks for posting, regardless of any real or imagined imperfections. They're sounding pretty darn good here seeing that some of us are high mileage classics. ;) But seriously, I'm listening to this with in ears and I' actually amazed by the sound quality. So thanks again!

I bought this album just for the cover and when I heard this song....I almost lost my entire mind. Steve morse is a genius just for this song. What a mind and what a producer. Excellent to witness this 40 years later man! WOW!

Thank you! One of my top 5 songs. I don't remember ever hearing it live but i'm old. Yesterday KZread recommended a video of a show from '81 that I went to. It's the only time I ever saw them. I've been watching their videos for years but it just got recommended yesterday and the damn thing was uploaded ten years ago. Great algorithm youtube! I'm glad it didn't take ten years for this one!

THat is the BEST live sound I ever heard on a "dawn of" video! WIsh they would've played this tune when I saw them- Its a masterpiece even thought they played it slower than on the album!

Interesting seeing Jordan Rudess with the Dregs, I guess it shouldn't surprise me...seeing as how talented he is. Kinda wondering why there's an extra drum kit set up. I s Jaimoe gonna come sit in on Jessica? Or is it for Rod if he breaks the other one?

Rudess filled in for T Lavitz during a Dregs reunion tour years ago, before Rudess joined Dream Theater. In fact, it was Rudess' incredible preparation that led Steve Morse to recommend Rudess to DT to replace their original keyboard player. Jordan came to rehearsals with tab he had made up himself, IIRC.

It's kinda odd that I'm replying to my own post. The penny dropped last night, that's gotta be Van Romaine's kit for when The Steve Morse Band performs. Duh.

Van Romaine's kit. He played with SMB who opened. Steve got in some serious playing time. Plus at the end - both Romaine & Rod were playing, along with Dave LaRue & Andy West. Absolutely a great night!

The Capitol is a converted movie theater, we're damned lucky to have it. So enough with the complaining. Great show, I enjoyed it. You were sitting not far from where I was supposed to be sitting and was until some lummox came up and plopped his ass in my wife's seat... And uh, sounded fine to me, bass for the Dregs' set could have been turned up a bit. but I was glad I was not the sound tech last night. there were issues on stage...with the in ear monitors, that were taking way to much time from attention to the house mix, IMHO. Regardless, one helluva show, and an opener for the tour on top of that! Want magnificent sound in Macon, book the Grand Opera House or the Macon Auditorium...both with near perfect acoustics, on purpose.

I disagree. The video sound came out better than it sounded there. The sound system is sub par at best. I’ve seen other bands play there, and I’ve played there more than once as well. It’s just not a good sound system. They could have spent more on it, but they went cheap. The least they could do would be to put 2-3 subs upstairs so people could at least hear/feel the low end better. Finally, the house sound guy doesn’t have a thing to do with the stage/monitor mixes. That’s all done with the monitor engineer who sits on the side of the stage. I’m sure the sound guys are still learning the sets and working the bugs out, as this was the first show on their tour. You absolutely have to be able to hear each other when you’re playing music as complex and intricate as their music is! I can’t believe they (especially Rob) were able to pull it off. They have been and are the ultimate professionals, though. Performance-wise, they were spot on. I saw them probably 2 dozen times back in the day - and they were always flawless!

Probably in ear monitors. If you don't already know about them, they allow a performer to hear everybody at a lower volume.

@@Another_Broke_Musician It would be absolutely impossible for Rod to hear Andy - and even Steve. It's one thing not being to hear each other in regular 4/4 music. This is an entirely different monster. Rod killed it regardless!
