I keep expecting the volume to drop and that resonant voice say 'TV on the radio, here'... After so many Friday nights at 10, that is a memory that will never die. Add the crackle of old medium wave interference - magic!!

I was there. Magical times, 10-12 on a Friday evening. Along with tinkering with the Commodore 64 day and night, it was a golden age of my life, it's all been downhill since then, lol.
The American comments are about the track. The British comments are all about Tommy Vance!

Rock on, Tommy! Friday night, 10pm, BBC Radio 1. This was where it all began for me, 1979. And it will be with me forever.
As with many here, memories of the great Friday night rockshow with the legend that was Tommy Vance - back when Radio 1 was great. An epic era!

Absolutely the tightest, most well-rehearsed band I have ever seen live. Every one of them is a virtuoso at his respective instrument. Amazing to watch.

This brings back memories!Sneaking the radio under the duvet on Friday late nights when I was a kid for BBC Radio 1’s Friday Rock Show with the excellent Tommy Vance.
'73 or '74.. my girlfriend and I got in my Rambler slant-six to drive down Highway 1 to Augusta,GA to see some friends. Went downtown to a bar called 'The Whippin' Post' (I thought oh god what have I got myself into) and there they were...the Dregs. Fan forever.

I love the Dregs. I saw them in 1979. I saw Steve Morse two other times. They were always great!
Saw them in back in the day with Little Feat...killer show..
This song gets better every time. Killer jam
TV on the radio! Love this piece of music especially when the percussion goes into the double bass drum roll! TV also used to intersperse the tracks with Cozy Powell’s version of George Martin’ Theme number 1. Also great piece of music with awesome keyboard opening
Used it as a jingle when I was djing in college early 80s. Superb piece of rock music and I’m definitely in the electronic camp.
One of the most phenomenal bands of all time that never seems to show up in my KZread feed
Saw these guys the first time in a tiny hall in Athens GA around in '76 or '77. I've been a big fan ever since. Steve Morse makes it look so easy, and he appears to be having a good time doing it. Deep Purple needs to take a break and let him put the Dregs or the SMB back together and tour.
I am British and love this track and album.
In October 1977 saw the Dregs open for Santana at the Fox Theater in Atlanta. They opened their set with this song. It hadn't been released yet. I was blown away.

The Friday Rock Show! 😁🥳🤘🏻
TV on the Radio ; Tommy Vance was the champion of the NWOBHM when rock was dead and he was the only DJ on Radio 1 who would play a guitar-based track. And the jingles he had ; Saxon, Samson spring to mind.
Best drummer I have ever seen is Rod Morgenstein... Saw Dixie Dregs at The Chance in Poughkeepsie NY back in the 90's. Old Opera house that has a balcony that actually has seats that are above the stage. We had seats right about Rod's drums. Me and my friend were it utter awe of his drumming. We would of been falling on the floor if our jaws already hitting the floor weren't keeping us on our chairs.
"Well hello there!" Doesn't seem right without Tommy breaking in. Still a blast though.
Hell, yeah! And the rest of the album is even more amazing........
For the rest of the World, we had Tommy Vance on the BBC World Service. Playing "Quality Rock Music"
signature tune to the friday rock show on radio 1 with Tommy Vance great times
The only band I ever saw live before they were recording artist. Augusta GA. 74,75. Local bars. Just as tight live.
LOVE the Dregs! Steve Morse is the man, especially the early stuff.

I am very proud that I bought this album when I was 16. Man the Jeff Beck was strong with Steve. Great tune.
I first saw them when they had just signed their first recording contract. They were celebrating with a free afternoon concert at Piedmont golf course, in Atlanta. It was 1977. They used the same stage that Jimmy Carter had recently used for a speech. All they removed was the presidential seal. It was a nice sunny day, a greatconcert and I'll never forget it.
Friday night, 10pm, Radio One, The Friday Rock Show with the much missed Tommy Vance (TV on the Radio!). An authoritive voice presenting the music he loved - when radio was RADIO !

Paul Putnam. Damn right!
Does anyone else notice the classical (and not just jazz) tilt of the DD's music? Ok, I'm sorry for the phrase "just jazz". I'm more a fan of jazz, but even as unsophisticated a listener as I am, I can hear classical influence. Listen to "I'm Freaking Out" from "Dregs of the Earth" if you don't believe me. Great tune, and I saw it live at The Great Event in Portsmouth,Va. in 1979. I even met the Dregs' pilot, who I recognized from the album's liner notes. Anyway, I "discovered" the Dregs when "Punk Sandwich" actually got played on the radio on WMYK (K-94) in Va Beach back in 1978. God, I miss the days when commercial radio was not so strictly formatted.
On 275 and 285 and also in stereo on VHF, this is national Radio 1....well hello there, Thomas Vance, TV on the radio here and welcome once again to the Friday Rock Show.

The theme to my favourite radio show ever. Tommy Vance my favourite DJ ever. No one had a voice like him. A certain voiceover tries to sound like him but they just can't get it. Tommy's voice, his presence and his delivery, pure magic. No one can come up to him. The Friday Rock Show was my favourite ever radio show. I never missed it. It was a sad day when we lost Tommy. I got a mention from him on one of the shows. I requested Whole Lotta Rosie and he played it for me. I was about 15 or 16 at the time and was thrilled to bits my favourite DJ mentioned me. I hope you're entertaining everyone up in Rock Heaven, Tom. You were the best.

Yes, Tommy and Fluff = my youth. And he always signed off "Good night & God bless". Even saying that's probably not allowed these days...
Mark Parrish lived across the street back in Augusta. All the other guys families were around the corner. Mark was in another band with my brother before DD. I am not totally sure but I believe they even asked him to join their little band. My brother was a drummer and was quite good ..full musical scholarship to UGA and all that but of course did not take it...and similarly my wise older brother decided he wanted a safe life and turned down a chance to be in one of the best bands in the 80's......yeah I I used to kid him all the time...we did let them practice in our shop in the back yard. It was cool to a squirt like me. Continued great success guys
Over the decades I've culled through the Dregs' work, and I must confess that the best album award goes to WHAT IF.

As great as a band as there ever was anyhere in the history of the world.
I wonder how many remember (or were around) ABC's "Wide World of Sports" in the late 70's & early 80's. Freestyle Frisbee was really taking off then and WWS did a segment featuring Jenz and Erwin Velasquez, using this Dregs tune as the music for it - TOTALLY AWESOME!! Makes me want to spin a Frisbee every time I hear it!
