Chrissy Amphlet is a legend here in Aus. Uncompromising and powerful performer, and sadly missed. The Divinyls big international hit was I Touch Myself, but they had over a decade of great songs and were huge in Australia. Strongly recommend Pleasure and Pain, Elsie (live to get a feel for Chrissy's stage presence), Boys in Town, and almost anything by the Divinyls. Also, few singers could get away with the line "I could kick her face in"! Chrissy had sass, to say the least, and we love her for it.

Fun fact. This was written about the lead guitarist in the band Mark McEntee. They were an item for years on and off. He ended up marrying another and had a family. He was there for her though in the end as she battled aggressive breast cancer and I still miss her. If I had to give a comparison she is our Deborah Harry and should still be here being our Godmother of sweaty pub rock.

Only an Aussie song could have a line in it about a grown woman kicking another woman's face in and still be acceptable for air play 😁That line makes me laugh every time I hear it. I think the line about having a "new baby" is referring to the fact that the guy has a new young girlfriend, rather than actually raising an infant. I believe the song is about the relationship dynamic between the singer and the guitarist, as the guitarist was known to be a bit of a player and she always wanted him for herself. So yeah, on that basis this is a super real and personal song.

Chrissie was a huge groundbreaker for female lead vocalists in Australia, an antidote to the perfect little blonde pop princesses, she was unapologetically raw and real! 💗😪

One of Australia’s greatest bands. First saw them in Bondi when I was 18 and they did ‘All the boys in town’ and the crowd went nuts. Miss you Chrissy

The DiVinyls were big in Australia but only a few hits in the States. "I Touch Myself" is their biggest hit here but they've got a lot of great songs.

Chrissie Amphlett was a live wire. There’s a reason she often used to perform in a schoolgirl uniform - so did Ac/dc’s Angus young. She was fearless, funny, and awesome. Sorely missed.

Great talent from Sleepy Hollow (Geelong). Chrissy will remain in our hearts forever.

One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. Read the book about CA life! I also have MS and had Breast Cancer. She will always be one of my Favs.

We miss her , and yes even on spicks and specks reading a book , she had us in the palm of her hand

Please react to their other hits like 'Science Fiction' and 'Pleasure and Pain'. This band were only known for 'I Touch Myself' in the US but they have so many other tracks.

Rip Chrissy Amphlet. Not long gone, but gone far too early. This WAS one of the preeminent angsty songs of our generation. I'll mention again, her version of ""I don't Believe Anymore" by Icehouse was brilliant

I only saw them once. My friend's band was supporting them. I can remember standing on the table at the back of this pub down on Wollongong, passing a joint around, watching them. It was brilliant.

We've had some quality female Singers in Australia, though Chrissie is THE QUEEN OF AUSSIE ROCK.

Talented acoustic guitar kinda doesn't fit the topic, making it more genius. But the build-up, I think you missed. Too distracted by the topic and lyrics. Have to respect the song as a whole. Not a single note, cord or inflection was by mistake. It's a masterpiece in it's own class. Plus Chrissy is (was) a fantastic vocalist and performer. Don't diss Chrissy in an Aussie pub if you enjoy good health ;)
