There's more too the story than that the reason why is because Irene lost her empathy do to her age (if this didn't happen she would have probably been on the side of shad) and shad being betrayed by his friends led to him transcending into a being on par with Irene but this is because the betrayal made shad so angry he was unable to see reason for hundreds of years (if this didn't happen then they could have talked things out or something and shad could have been able to live as long as Irene) so ultimately it wasn't the fault of Irene or shad it was the fault of most of the other divine warriors for betraying shad which led to Irene having no choice but to kill shad which was betraying shad as well
