presents the DIVINE LITURGY OF OUR FATHER AMONG THE SAINTS JOHN CHRYSOSTOM
This video of the Divine Liturgy is celebrated in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Olyphant, Pennsylvania, USA by Monsignor Stephen Hrynuck with responses sung by its choir in Old Church Slavonic. The music for the major prayers was written by the famous Ukrainian composer Mykola Verbitsky.
The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is celebrated in Eastern Byzantine Catholic and Orthodox Churches worldwide.
The choir has been actively singing responses to the Liturgy since the founding of the Church in 1888 by Rev. J. Wolansky, and is widely acclaimed in Canada and the United States, where they have sung the Liturgy and presented concerts of religious and folk music.

A good example of late-use of Church Slavonic in UGCC in diaspora. St George's Manhattan is another example. Brilliant Ukrainian 'Jugenstil' repertoire. You'd have heard these pieces in any prominent Ukrainian churche in Galicia and North America in 1910.

The first two full hymns (the hymn 'Kol' slaven nash' and the concerto 'Sej den') are Bortniansky's. Don't particularly like the golf-course-hushed commentary, although it is informative.

Wow, 25 years ago. I don't live far from here either. I was 19 when this was recorded and I'll soon be 44. Pretty soon, in the grand scheme of things I'll be dead. Perhaps that is why the Christian message resonates so deeply with me, much more so now than at any previous point in my life, because I finally see the bigger picture, and how fleeting this life is.

Fact: One of the oldest Ukrainian Catholic parishes in America is in Shenandoah Pennsylvania and I think that Pennsylvania is one of the big hotspots of all Ukrainian and Byzantine immigrants if I’m not mistaken.

During Vatican 2 in the 60 s the Pope and Bishops of the western church voted to have and encouraged the Eastern Rite to keep their ancient traditions and strongly said they are to get rid of any Latin customs they brought in when joined the western church Pope John xxiii and later Pope St John Paul ii later reiterated this much strongly

The unions of Brest and Uzhhorod guaranteed that Orthodox Christians who reunited with rome did not have to confess the filioque or observe roman feasts these things were later forced onto Greek Catholics but now these latinizations are being thrown out and being replaced by authentic Eastern spirituality.

DE- Latinization only includes Liturgy and Prayers...Filioque is an OFFICIAL DOGMA....You are allowed to recite the creed without Filioque only if it is in GREEK recitation....But when you recite it in Latin, All Catholics must recite it with Filioque... Don't cause any schism against Rome again or you will end up like Eastern ORthodox now...Schism 2018... that's what you get when you disobey Rome...You end up in factions and divisions... He who does not gather in the unity of Peter will scatter...
