Diverticulitis Signs & Symptoms (And Why They Occur)
Diverticulitis is a gastrointestinal condition involving inflammation of diverticula, which are outpouchings or “bulges” in the large intestine that are caused by weak large intestine walls. The diverticula can form more commonly in certain parts of the large intestine, so diverticulitis symptoms can occur more commonly in particular locations on the abdomen. Furthermore, the inflammation and swelling of diverticula can lead to other more non-specific symptoms, which we will discuss in this lesson.

If it hadn't been for diverticulitis I never would have gone to the emergency room and had a CT scan where they found out that I had stage 2 Renal Cancer with a 2.5 centimeter tumor in my right kidney. Last week I had the cancer and part of my kidney removed during a 4 and a half hour sugery. Left undiagnosed they gave me 3 to 4 years to live. So thank you diverticulitis for saving my life! ✌❤

I want to spread the word as someone who has had intensely bad flare ups of diverticulitis. My advice to anyone, no matter your diet. The most important change I’ve made to avoid flare ups is to drink a glass of water before anything first thing in the morning. The water aids digestion, stops blockages, encourages bowel movement. Obviously, drinking water after ever meal would also be ideal, but if you’re too busy just make sure the first thing you put to your lips when you wake up is water. Touchwood I haven’t had any flare ups.

When I went to the ER doubled up in pain, running a 103° fever, I will never forget the first words fron the admitting nurse..."Now understand we don't give pain meds for a stomach ache." I also had this several years ago. I woke up that morning with such pain especially trying to go to the bathroom. My husband took me to the doctors office, they did a scan and found air in my system. Sent me to a surgeon right away. In the mean time, I felt cold, very weak, just wanted to lay down and sleep. That afternoon I was in emergency surgery and woke up with a colostomy bag. Thank you so very much to JJ Medicine. 🤗 Although I have been diagnosed (twice over the years) with DV... this one video has encapsulated pretty much most of my symptoms and has brought to light that the tediously debilitating symptoms with which I have been "living" since 2007; are in fact due to the DV! This diagnosis has never been presented to me despite numerous tests. I believe it is that simple. It is the DV which is the reason for my symptoms. Thank you!!! And... to all those who have this condition... sending many Angel Blessings and excellent health to each and every one of you. 😘

Thank you for this video. I don't usually go to Dr. Google because I always think that it is insulting to my doctor. However, I have never really understood the condition I have...and I cannot pronounce it. I stutter so it is a hard thing to say. In any case, your video made sense to me. Thanks,
If I heard correctly in this video, it was said that the pain symptom was constant but that was not the case for me when I was diagnosed with it. I had developed a fever during the day and rapidly felt worse during the day with fever and chills. Later that night I had apparently had a seizure and was in the hospital. They ran head to toe test trying to figure what it was. They said I had diverticulitis without the pain symptoms, leading to fever then seizure. It was a blessing that I went to the Dr. that day cause I learned I had a mini-stroke in my past I was unaware of. I am now getting treated for that. Thank you Lord.
Just want to say thank you for making a very detail video on this !!
THANK YOU! I've been dealing with diverticulitis for years; while also trying to get my IBS under control. I have every symptom you mentioned, but didn't realize how many of my symptoms are related to diverticulitis. This information will make it a bit easier going forward.

In our modern busy age, we sometimes forget to eat, or we tend to cram into our mouths anything that staves off the hungry feeling. Water is also important. I never had time to drink much or go to the toilet. You've got to get back to basics. Remember anything you put into your mouth, will end up in your stomach. If you swallow food and drink it must come out the other end. Gorge yourself silly, and you'll end up with food particles that get horrifically stuck. Visit your doctor and Don't delay. Mom suffered with this "Disease" more than half a century ago and succumbed after abdominal surgery in Aug 1975. Surgeons cut you wide open to remedy chronic issues. Mom later had a Colostomy in 1972. The patient lost muscle control in the lower ab for some time until healing was effective--not to mention the pain. Mom spent 2 weeks in the hospital for her "Surgeries." Now at 70 I have the old age aspect of Diverticulitis, but at least it is not Colitis which has bleeding. Surgery is more advanced and/or precise, maybe less invasive now? In early 1966 as a teen, I developed lower right quadrant pain. I thought I had Appendicitis, but they said my white blood count was normal. I was constipated and could not eat, missed a week at school. This abated but nothing was determined by the medical pros. It never occurred again after that week.

If I didn’t get an accordian drain at the ER, I could of died. This was a light surgery but I understand that the surgery can vary and be serious

That's so sad to hear you are still suffering from this same disease. Am feeling for you right now, I know of a doctor who can help you get rid of this. He also help me from this same disease, He can also help cure yours permanently
Oh my gosh, thank you! This is what I have. I'm pretty young but I have a lot of gut issues and eds so this makes total sense. I was put on strong antibiotics because they thought I had a uti but it only got worse.

@@gouthamabhishek1395 That's great bro. Did you have to go to the doc? I am feeling some light pain in that region and i did a salt water flush today morning to get rid of what's inside. It has brought out pretty much everything from inside. The pain has reduced but still there mildly.

@@gouthamabhishek1395 Hi! How did you get rid of it? Did you change your diet?
Great information. At first I thought I hurt my back like a spasm after pain increased and I started to put things together I know now what has happened will se dr tomorrow.
From April until June, I had one long episode. It was awful, every symptom this video addressed except vomiting. It's awful. I've since lost 37 pounds and I now eat 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce every morning. I don't know if I'm being superstitious, but that applesauce has brought me good luck. I haven't had an episode since. It's awful. Thank you for this video which describes the condition better than any of my doctors did.
I have been in extreme pain for 4 days, finally went to E.R. they diagnosed me with diverticulitis. I am still in pain. Seeing a doctor soon. Scared and in pain. This is best on KZread. Thank you

I had an undiagnosed perforated diverticula abcess years ago. My symptoms were dismissed as IBD, anxiety, and finally crazy. I had seen an internet’s, a surgeon as well as my family MD. I ended up having an emergency appendectomy. When it was seen that was not the problem I ended up with a Hartman’s procedure, or a colostomy for about a year. It was then reversed. At the time I was working as an RN on an acute general floor alongside seven surgeons. Nobody could connect the dots. If you have symptoms please keep pushing for answers.

Melanie, I bet if you had been a man those doctors would have taken you much more seriously and found your problem almost as soon as you presented. Male doctors sometimes think women are being a hypochondriac or hysterical. They naturally just give a man the benefit of the doubt. And women give birth to babies! It hurts like hell and men want to say we’re being hysterical! Women handle pain much better than men and usually have a higher pain tolerance. 🤦🏻♀️ I’m glad somebody finally listened to you and saved your life!

'Nobody could connect the dots'. I can't agree more. I hv experienced it in my mom's case. Dr are livinng in their own world, litterally deaf and blind to read and observe symptoms!
I had a nasty attack of diverticulitis about two years ago. First one ever. Went to the ER. They gave me Toradol (an NSAID) to cover the pain and it worked. They also did a complete work-up involving X-rays and CT scans. The diagnosis was confirmed. I was then given prescriptions for TMP-SMX and metronidazole to clear any potential bacterial infections or parasitic/protozoal infestations that might have been causing the problem, or at least aggravating it. Three days later, I was feeling much better, although the pain was vastly better by the time I left the ER because of the Toradol.
Thanks, excellent video.
Had a bad attack about 10 years ago, in the hospital for 4 days. I happened to read about Aloe Mucilaginous Polysaccaride Molecules. A little on the expensive side, but decided to give them a try. There are several manufactures out there, but all seem to work about the same. I took them for a couple of years and then stopped, but if I got a twinge now and then, would go back on them for a week or so. Have never had another major episode and I really haven’t taken any for a couple of years now.
My mum had this and was admitted to hospital. Very painful for her and was told later after surgery it could have been life threatening.

I also had this kind of surgery. the dr said if I would show up half an hr late i would be dead.
I have this. Since 4-5 years ago. I was in so much pain, I collapsed at work, went Hospital and they gave me stuff for it and kept me in 2 days and if, it hadn't improved were going to operate. I do pancreatic massage and find this helps alot with this and especially if you find it, painful to poo. I also had to change what foods I eat and I can't eat large amounts of meat. I have to cut meat up into very small bits and have a smallish plate of food. I also take co-enzyme q10, selenium and zinc. I have found myself this has really helped and now, I even realize I have it. Sometimes it flares up, but I do a pancreatic massage and it is fine. If you get in pain with this though, go to your Doctor as it is a serious condition. Most people haven't even heard of it and it is bloody painful.
Thank you so much for this information ❤
