    I think buy for own stay the investment will become a need already. If buy for investment & rental yield then have to consider going into the property market at the right timing and right price (able to pay the property loan).

    Eric , thanks for sharing your experience on your stocks investment journey in your early days, been there before. The amount of school fees we pay, is enough to pay for UIP subscription for few years. Since I joined I made back my losses, course fee and 2x what I invested. It’s worth it. Save myself a lot of pain. Money can earn back easily. But you can’t buy back time. Then you can focus on your own business and your money is also working hard for you. Jia you.

    I think it depends on time of the investor as well. If you try to diversify into 10 stocks, you have to understand why you are buying it, and what is the best price. It might be better to focus on a few good stocks and know when to add in. Most investors have full time jobs and may not be able to spend too much time on understanding stocks and the market.

    Diversify in different countries markets best, Warren Buffett is from USA, of cus he supports his own country not saying that's bad but there's host country bias,you basically invest in different countries to hold assets in their host countries' currencies

    Nobody can predict for long term because there are so many moving parts. So for long term investment, diversification is important. For short term, can aim big when opportunity comes up. Like when AMD claims that they got a new AI chip to compete Nvidia, wack. I sold after earnings guidance is not great. Outcome +35% gain in 2 months. My next trade, Sea limited. Garena show evidence of returning to growth. I intend to sell if earnings is negative so my exposure is limited. The problem with sniper theory is when people starts to average down or refuse to cut loss. This happened to me for BABA. Instead of cutting loss, I average down because I was not clear about my strategy. Note 1 Reaction time is important. Note 2 Check your accuracy rate. Not everybody can shoot like a sniper.

    @@learninvestearnsave yes happens before when there was financial crisis in Asia 1997 , triggered by Thailand currency devaluations and Malaysia also freezes their currency exchange. Property prices drop by a lot , bank force loan owners to make lump sum cash payments to top up the drop in property valuations. Those who cannot top up , have to force sale.

    I am strong believer of the sniper theory. But, modern sniper rifles use 10-round mags. I'm more old school, so my rifle only 5 rounds. Ray Dalio said diversification is the holy grail of investing and we can have up to 5 stocks without compromising our returns. Bill Ackman said he owns only royalties of industries. Warren Buffett's famous quote, "diversification is a protection against ignorance" and "his early investing day is like picking leftover cigarette for one last puff". When so many OG billionaires fund managers say the same thing in different ways, which is to diversify among great picks that we can diamond hands. There must be some truth to that. Ironically, the person who coined the sniper theory doesn't even practice their own theory, now more or less spray-and-praying ship coins. Not saying it's bad, but that kind of investing is the VC approach.

    Disagree with Kelvin.. not all buy condo to "show off".. its part of upgrading to the next milestone in life.. similar to the reason why you came to from Msia to Singapore.. and shouldnt you know that property in Singapore is a good store of value.. with even a conservative 3% growth on a 1m property is 30k.. the SNP 500 might just crash 50% tomorrow which you never know..

    when one move from hdb to condo, the size of the unit actually becomes smaller. im curious what is being upgraded. singapore property is a good store of value but it only stores the value. the issue is, when you need the value, its stored.

    Need to correct Eric a bit. Dua Kang = 大洞 in hokkien. Translate to a huge empty hole, or a depth of nothingness. Meaning someone bragging about something that didn't happen at all. AKA boasting, fabrication.

    Kelvin you don’t know enough about Singapore property to give advice. U are perhaps only speaking on behalf of people who cannot afford basic housing like a 3 room Hdb. People should only listen to guru who has made big bucks investing in the right properties. Not all Singapore properties , private or commercial will have good capital appreciation short term. Don’t listen to property agents too, they are only interested to make a transaction for their commission. They will make lousy property sound like hot cakes. Chi Keng knows the right guy who knows how to analyse what property is good / bad.
