I have no idea what the deal with the whole plagiarism drama is, but for the people telling me in the comments, it was never clear to me from the outset (and if not to me, anyone who doesn't know any better from the outset) and it's hard for me to verify anything properly.

  • @Darth12000

From what I gathered, one of the background people that eBuzz was relying to is guilty of the plagiarism, and eBuzz fired him upon discoverying this. He still feels responsible for it though, and intends to be more hands on on the sources and text of his contents. However, there were a few creators including DT who jumped the gun and called him out publicly without delay, instead of trying to reach out and get explanations first. THAT is what pissed off eBuzz. The same happenned a couple of years ago with AVGN (Cinemassacre), and AVGN wasn't denounced in such a way by the gaming critics community. Hope this summary helps. ;)

I feel the need to point out that, in completition to what Darth Killer said, eBuzz only took action when word got out. If he was actually truthful, he would have done so before, and also announced doing so, before somebody from outside got to do it. And also cover all the problematic videos not just one or two. When he made the video, he still had videos that he didn't addressed. And there's other things too. It might still be up for debate, but for me it's clear that eBuzz is shady and in the wrong.

@@Winnetou17 or maybe he didn't even know in the first place and he found out when the word got out. Exactly like what happened with AVGN. Except with AVGN, people asked him first. With eBuzz, people denounced first. If there are unaddressed content with this problem, why not reach out to him? It's not like he hasn't openly asked for people to email him...

I really like DT, not because I am wanting to learn how to use something, but because I want to see someone using it. Good video, I agree with a lot of it. I don't think generalizing about Wayland as you did is any better then the way DT generalizes about Wayland. It probably would have been better to say something like "it works for me, but it is still new so it may not work for everyone." Which is still closer to the truth in my experience. All that being said, I make mistakes all the damn time, I don't script anything (because I'm bad at reading scripts), so I can't throw stones in any glass whatever. The grammar there completely went down the hole, which proves my point. Also, DT's response to my video about distro reviews remains one of the most hilarious things I've seen on KZread. And the best bit is he said it wasn't my video that triggered him.

Hmmm … honestly, I could have guessed DistroTube’s politics, but it’s disconcerting to see such blatant examples of inappropriate sharing (I had not seen any of the cited examples first hand). That’s not to say he isn’t free to create his own content, he certainly is, but I am equally as free to disagree with him and his views. I appreciate your perspective and the call for supporting one another, especially as often we forget that we can critique others without going scorched earth on them. We can offer dissent without totally tearing someone down. The issue is that our narrative nature is most stimulated and driven by such dramatics and theatrics. The internet offers us all of the information ever known, but it doesn’t teach us the responsibility involved in navigating it, interacting with it, and trying to contribute to it in our own humble ways. Sometimes we can mean well but miss the mark mightily, and like most ill-begotten actions, I suspect most drama and theatrics can be traced back to a knee-jerk reaction and not necessarily malice aforethought. In other words, I’d argue that most often we’re all just doing the best we can, but we’re also most often entirely terrible at it. I’m not sure what I’m saying anymore … but thanks for the opportunity to engage with the topic and hear your thoughts!

Good video .. however, a few points could have used a little clarity... as for wayland being ready, he could of said it a little more kinder than the backhanded way he did, but he isn't altogether wrong when it gets good enough to ship with distros that are notoriously picky about shipping software that works well, then it can be considered " ready ".. as for the excerpt of the Ebuzz video you showcased, well, that response was more directed at me than DT!! As he was trying to claim, no one tried contacting him(Ebuzz), which was untrue as I and Dragonballjujitsu had tried over 18 times.. and I had stated that, so im sure DT knew he wouldn't have gotten a response either. Other than thatci agree 💯.. we as a community need to be nicer, but we also need to ensure malthisents aren't running willy nilly and giving Linux bad perceptions. So a kinder form of calling out might need to exist if it can... I don't know. I don't have all the answers.

He's done a few shitpost/troll uploads, and I think his gun inventory and Trump rally uploads fit neatly in that category. He's just stirring up shit for engagement. And they just come off cringey at best. Some of his other hot takes on FOSS politics rubbed me the wrong way too. So for me, I'll click on his videos if it appears to be about how to use/install/configure a program I'm interested in. That content is generally eye opening and informative. Everything else, including his opinion pieces, I just ignore. That's how I choose to engage with his content.

He could easily edit the video and releasing a flawless instructional but I appreciate it when he has mistakes. Ultimatley, it is his show and it is his content. IHe has helped me learn a lot...

There is two different versions of Linux users in the community, those that are system experts and those of us that are average joe switched from windows users. If Linux is going to grow, distro's are going to have to be stable enough for the second group also. I think his point with Wayland is based on the fact that you shouldn't need to be an expert to deal with the things that don't seem to work out of the box with Wayland or need to be fixed after it breaks something. I love the idea of Wayland 100% and think it is an awesome project, but every time I (as an average joe user of Linux) have ever tried to use Wayland, I experience all sorts of issues. If I was an expert, could I fix it or work around it? Likely. Does not change the fact that it MIGHT not be ready for stable releases. The easiest way to workaround those issues for me, as a normal joe, is to switch to x11. It does not really matter if all the distro's are at fault and not Wayland. That still does not change that there is an end user issue with Wayland. As for his politics, that is the beauty of freedom. I think there is a bunch of unneeded drama in tech-tube lately. I think most of us watch a wide range of different content creators and not only get, but enjoy different opinions and recommendations. I think those that ONLY go to one source and believe it to be the ONLY gospel is very very very low percentage. I think most of us think everyone's opinions are helpful and useful, and I think it's far more cringe for a content creator to post a hit piece about another content creator in the same topic space, then to post something about their political support beliefs.

The biggest problem with wayland is the fact that a lot of older software doesn't and prob will never work properly with wayland. And while there is just as good or perhaps even better software available in the vast majority of cases, many people will not want to stop using default pulseaudio, or default rofi, or whatever. This means that wayland will never work for them, this includes DT. The only problem I have with this, is the way they frame it, wayland is the issue not the old software that is no longer being developed to support new things. It it simply a view that is hurtful for the future of desktop linux, however, I also understand that throwing your software away that worked before is not something everyone will do, nor is testing software and figuring out why exactly something doesn't work. I wasted way to much time being frustrated with wayland at first, only to figure out that this one program just doesn't support wayland, not the other way. E.g. The information that DT gives about wayland is simply factually false, and it is hurtful for the project, as well as sad coming from a person with such knowledge and skills in all things linux. However this does not mean he is wrong to stay with xorg when it works for him and he has no issues with what it offers. The only things that is left to say, just don't make a video on things you have not actually informed yourself about.

DTube just went too far into drama-stirring territory. Even Linux Cast jumped in on the eBuzz drama, which isn't cool of him either. Though I think Linux Cast backed off a bit, so hopefully drama is over with him. Drama gets clicks, but they are very flash in the pan, and one may get subs, but they will just want to watch drama by then. Not tech/Linux stuff. If DTube wanted to talk about other stuff, there is nothing wrong with a second channel dedicated to that. But if people do jump on you for "calling someone out," they need to remember, you "called out" one person, and even showed respect and how to make drama die down. DTube has called out many, deserved or not. However, with this ending/wrap-up and your other video on gaming with Linux, I am now subscribed! Have a great day!

While I don't believe in "safe spaces", I do agree on the "separation of concerns", by which I mean that if you are going to dedicate your channel to Linux, don't mix in politics or ideology (or keep it to a minimum). This is the reason I stopped watching Luke and DT, among others. Don't get me wrong, I have very strong political views myself, but I don't want politics to permeate everything. Sometimes I just want technical nerd stuff. And, yeah, your research is much appreciated. There are many big Linux channels that are very superficial with nothing but distro reviews (the worst!). I guess they got caught up in the algorithm chase, and have to pump stuff out often to keep up. I am subscribed to much smaller channels, the kind that get only about a dozen views, but the effort they put into their content keeps me coming back to them. If I could cite one example of a labor of love on your channel, I would point to the video where you showed us how to download our favorite he...manga. That was so cool and nerdy! More of that please! :D

Very valid points. I don't get too worked up about it. I think DistroTube was just stating his opinion. He is not saying anything more than that. Yes i have noticed some changes with the content. DIstroTube and Titus. They want to put a video up and discuss items, good for them. I have noticed that they don't make it personal, and i take it as "their opinion". Well if they have an impact on the linux community, who is to say its negative? It is very hard to see the outcome in the future when the future is constantly moving! Maybe it will be good, maybe bad, but it will have an affect. One thing i agree with you 1000% is "no political, religious comments on youtube. As a retired technical writer I can agree that proper preparation is important, but accuracy trumps everything else. I lived most of my working life with Microsoft operating systems and MS Office applications. Being retired I no longer put up with the Microsoft way of doing things and run Linux Mint as my daily driver. I wish I could tell you that Linux is all I run but sadly the best emulator for Windows games is still Windows. I'm still playing games like WarCraft II and StarCraft and have had nothing but grief trying to run these under Linux. Doesn't make me a horrible person, just an old retro gamer who simply wants those old games to work consistently. Gotta love Grub though, grin.

the reason he doesn't prepare is probably to give a genuine first impression of a distro, if he prepared everything beforehand and wrote a script, it wouldn't be as much of a real review as someone just hopping into a distro. and not everyone wants to script what they say, a lot of the time there will be something dynamic that happens that essentially requires you to go off script, and most of his videos are too dynamic for that, it's not just simple monologue. he is also right in that wayland is unstable, it's not due to the wayland team, it is due to nvidia refusing to properly implement wayland, and whether you like it or not, the majority of users still use nvidia cards, thus in effect making wayland unstable, as it will not work properly for most people.

DT can say wayland is not ready, you can say it is, and you can both be right. it's also not BBC documentary, nor school book, he can be wrong, emotional, not scripted, in a bad mood... heck, all that is actually what I want from a youtuber. We're grownups, we can read/write comments to find out about errors ot other opinions, we can (and all do) watch 10 other perspecitves on YT. Who would want to watch only scripted, 100% politically correct, emotionless software reviews? Wow that would be boring

I think the most important thing to remember about youtube is that its not a place where you have to conform to an arbitrary standard about what content you include or exclude from you channel. Just because a channel is broadly and tech or gaming channel doesn't mean the creator can't upload personal videos or that he can't talk about something else that he likes. All youtubers including you and DT gain your audience from your personality as well as your content and I don't see why people should be pigeonholed into a category and then be restrained from doing something else. Its their channel so the owner should be free to do what he likes because the only real rule is the algorithm and it is senseless anyway. With that said though I agree that people should be careful about making sweeping statements like ''X is broken'' because such a statement from a person with a huge following in the community has the potential to do harm to projects even if the statement was unintentional and not malicious.

THOUGH an update video is a content video. It's when there is mistake after mistake ... at least do a cut in the video man. It's the takes with DT where "that is just wrong" over and over again that has turned me off. not that I disagree ... it's when he is just saying things that ARE NOT true. heck wanting to stay with older tech ....
