Is anyone watching this trailer in 2024? I was watching video tutorials about VFX analysis for CGI homework, and luckily I came across this amazing film called "District 9". After 14 years, its visual still amazes us.

May you guys believe it or not, high-end CGI computing and CGI rendering techniques have not changed _that_ much. Hardware got a _little_ more powerful, sure, but actual ray-traced rendering and the other accuracy based lighting techniques did not change much. All the lighting data is properly calculated photon by photon, that's why it still looks good to this day (and took a looooong time to render). What evolves a lot yearly is approximated stuff, real-time rendering like games and demos which use complex algorithms to try to look like the real deal as much as possible while using very little resources. There is a LOT more to CGI and computing than Moore's law.

This movie came out the same year as Avatar, You can see how perfect the CGI was.

Saw this on a flight to Moscow ... had problems to find my way back into reality when I left the plane ... amazing masterpiece! ... Rewatched it 5 times since then ... still a 10/10.

I saw this film in theaters 9 years ago and it was an amazing film. To date, this is Neil Blomkamp's best film he directed.

One of best film ever made. It's moving and so realistic with an amazing story and atmosphere.

+Calmax Film Amazing story? They're so advanced that they mastered interstellar travel but they need OUR help? How does that make any fucking sense at all? Their craft is so advanced that bombs can't destroy it and it can hover over a city for years (stolen from "Childhoods End" by Arthur C. Clarke) without needing to be refueled - and yet somehow they need fuel? And you call this "realistic"? If you were impressed by this piece of shit movie - you need to read "Childhoods End" by Arthur C. Clarke (or watch the movie).

Watching say the first half hour of this movie and I remember feeling underwhelmed and then it just happened. Brilliantly executed throughout. To me personally I find this movie very sad and has many layered meanings to it. It will be a classic movie.

Hands down one of the best modern Sci-Fi movies.

This was nominated for best picture.....also a sequel is unnecessary. No sequel does not mean it wasn't successful. It made $211 million dollars nominated for an oscar and the director as already made Elysium and is now making Chappie next month so he clearly did something right with this film to keep getting work. So again how is this underrated?

I just watched this for the first time in 2016. SUCH a great movie- I can't believe I hadn't heard of or seen this in the theater. If you haven't seen it, it is a MUST see.

good acting? Not on the main character's part I hope.. sure at the end I think that's what shined for most of us, the 40% of the end... but majority of the movie the main character was inhumanely selfish, had no empathy or sympathy for the aliens. Even smashed the nice alien in the face and left him for dead, trusted his gf and the corporation trying to kill him when it was so obvious it was being set up... It was a good movie but some of those holes were just mind fuckingly inhumane

Breezy8o8 That was one of the themes of the movie. The main character became more humane as he was losing his human body. It's not a hole, it's meant to be ironic. The actor played his role brilliantly.

The alien would have been half drunk at a hockey game with his ship and people well taken care of and the Canadian prime minister asking him if there were any alien etiquette laws he was currently violating and that he was very sorry if he was.

Watched it with my friends expecting it to be a generic humans vs aliens Michael-Bay-esque explosive extravaganza. It was so much more.

We need a sequel to this soooooo badly. I really hope they do someday.

The fact this movie got nominated for Best Picture in 2009 is an achievement in itself. This is definitely in my Top 5 Favorite Sci-fi movies. The Prawn Mech scene is by far one of the most memorable scenes in recent memory.

I think District 9 is more of a fictional documentary, i.e. what happened in the movie, is exactly what would happen in real life. I think it's one of the best movies ever made, and it definitely deserves a sequel and a prequel.

It is though - in South Africa at the time we had a high level of xenaphobia towards other African nationals from the contientent who were there illegally or legally. This movie draws a lot of inspiration and story from the events that were happening in South Africa at the time. Truly horrific stuff like burning people alive just because they were from another country. It also ties in a lot of what Apartheid South Africa was like, where the Prawns are the Blacks and the Humans are the Whites. This movie is truly brilliant and I can't watch it without tearing up - even the trailer pulls at my heartstrings.

12 years later and I'm still waiting for a sequel/prequel for this film

Totally underrated film. We get a ninth Transformers movie getting millions thrown at it, and this one seems to be getting lost in scifi film history :( It was so creative, so dark and gritty and realistic. The setting of south african slums was a highly original choice, and made the alien/human interactions that much more realistic and interesting. Thanks Peter Jackson for producing this and getting it to have the effects it needed :D

There won't be for a while. The director said that after completing 3 movie in the sci-fi action styles he wants to move towards other movies and styles. However, he did say he wishes to come back to make a sequel.

This movie is amazing the cgi looks so real and the visuals are breath taking..... deserve a 2nd part

Great film. Very different

As a South African, I really loved this movie and thd fact that it was filmed close to my home town.

It's amazing how this movie relates to the present immigration situation across the globe. Neil Blomkamp was way ahead and still is i think.

The sound effect at 0:51 is just...That's how you introduce an other worldly ship. Bravo.

Movies like this will never been made again.

This film was beautiful, it touched on the meaning of "humanity", racism, and all of the problems that we have today.

Tbh I thought this was a trailer like the one for noeasy and I clicked it watched ur half way and thought “huh so where’s stray kids” and then I read through the comments and I thought stays were being sarcastic and then I realize this has nothing to do with stray kids🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

The lead actor was for a lack of a better word very human he felt like a real person instead of an actor. I wonder how his career was after this movie i must look this up.

I didnt know the subs would let you know what the aliens were saying, i think that helped me empathize with them more, i had to read their body language, gestures, the pitch of their voice and the context.
