CLASS DESCRIPTION:
How To Create Art Journal Page with Distress Paints:
When it comes to Art Journaling, who needs stress? Art Journaling is a wonderful way to combine color and words to chronicle your life or experiences, for self-expression, to let off steam or just for the fun of creating.
I love using all kinds of art supplies in my journals. Paint allows me to get color on the pages quickly, but some paints are thick and create lumps. Some paints never seem to dry and leave the pages tacky. Some paints drive you crazy when you add something on top and they disappear into thin air. There has to be a way to take the stress out of using paint in an Art Journal, right?
Tim Holtz Distress Paint to the rescue! But as soon as you fix one problem, another one shows up. Isn't that always the way? Although Distress Paints are water-based, they dry a little slower than some other paints and they are somewhat reactive with water. Once you learn how to play with these awesome paints, I bet you'll want to own the entire collection of colors.
Tim and Ranger Industries developed these paints to be used on multiple surfaces and because they are reactive with water, they are perfect for a wide variety of techniques. They are packaged with a dauber top so you don't even have to use a brush with them, making a mess-free application. Gotta love that! Distress Paints dry to a matte finish and can be used with stamps, paper, wood, metal, glass, and plastic.
For this class we'll be combining several colors of Distress Paints, texture paste and paper napkin collage to create a fun, easy 2-page Art Journal spread. You can create your pages in any mixed media Art Journal or even a composition notebook. Whatever you like to use will be just fine.
If you have a favorite quote you'd like to use, keep that in mind, too. I love using words in my Art Journal. You can stamp your words, use your own handwriting or print them in your favorite font with your printer.
If you're ready to eliminate stress from your Art Journal pages, just click the play button in the video and join this stress-free class.

Barb, I forgot how much I love your classes! I guess I took a break from your videos only because I was trying to reduce my screen time, but I am so glad I came back to re-watch some of my favorites of yours-and some others I didn’t see before. I am so appreciative of your teaching style, generosity of time and knowledge, and how you show the whole process, which so few KZread creators do. I really like your down-to-earth personality and your laugh as well. Cheers 😊
The tip to use Vaseline is going to save me so much frustration! I'll be going through all my mediums and glues tomorrow with my Vaseline jar in hand for sure. TFS.

+Darlene Kalas Great Darlene! I agree that the hardest part is starting, so if I've inspired you to begin, I'm really happy! Let me know how it goes and remember that there aren't any rules. Just go for it and see what happens.
The best class ever! I live in Bali,Indonesia and I am entirely depended on the internet for my learning, Barb you are the best tutor! Thanks
As I watched your video, I realized I had purchased 10 bottles of this paint and had never used it. So I struck out and once I got my gesso opened (I will use the vaseline trick from now on), I actually did make a background page. Tks so much for your videos and inspiration. I want to be creative... I just don't know how! You help me be creative!
I appreciate that you do not use shortcuts in your teaching. I enjoyed this lesson

***** I'm so glad that you found this video helpful! You have what you need. Just jump in and start! Remember, it's only paper and you can always cover it up. In art journaling, all is fair. Just go for it! Make some marks. Add some color. Stamp a few patterns and see what happens. You can do it!

You are an articulate informative instructor …thank you!
2023 the distress paints now come with a pop top lid rather than the sponge dauber. Both kinds of lids can be purchased separately for your personal preference. The pop lid allows you to work with your own paint brush, adding water to extend it if you wish. I love that the color doesn’t decrease with thinning!
Please have closed captions on to make it easy for the viewers. Lovely classes!!!
