they could also run one of the addons many killers have for frequent aura reads that will eat through the tokens. there are many easy counters for distortion.

I once played against 4 distortion and i had an aura reading build, it was a painful experience

broken builds require broken counterplay. As someone who used to run semi-wall build on hun I can easily say that aura reading builds should be unironically banned for how easy it is to start and end chases with it.

​@@sidsscrumpy1647 Because you can shoot from a distance with a lot of precision on CS or OW, while you can't with 95% of killers, and they're completely different gameplay so aura-reading is clearly not as much of a problem on DBD as it is on some FPS else it wouldn't be part of the mechanics. Aura reading is good on Huntress and some semi-distance killers can benefit from it but I don't think it's that good the point of needing a ban - else that's all we would see compared - because knowing where a survivor precisely is is good on a distance killer but it is just information on other killers. It doesn't win you a chase, there are palettes and vaults, all it does is give info and potentially helps you not being fooled by a mind game sometimes in a chase. And most killer aura-reading perks do not provide anything else besides aura-reading, so anyone with OTC or Distortion can make your perks basically useless; while you can always get value from OTC's other effects and Distortion's massive information it provides (you can determine so much info on the killer's build, whether it is the absence of aura-reading perks/addons, or a full build around that can be fully guessed just from one perk) The only one aura-reading perk that can actually be super strong especially on high mobiliy killer is Nowhere to hide, which ate a nerf indirectly with the restrictions on gen-kicking. If anything, the killer aura reading builds for survivors that I am currently experimenting with can be more disgusting if you're on SWF with coms imo, two of the latest survivor's perks give you 10s and 20s aura-read on the killer which is a very long time (arguably countered by undetectable but… you don't have perks that make you undetectable as needed)

And this is why I love Spies from the Shadows. Calm Spirit is the only counter and it is not widely selected.

I'll be honnest, as a distortion player, I LOVE T1 MYERS !! And distortion still come in handy as no one but a T1 Myers can burn my token so fast, which means that I'm aware of WHO 'im dealing with very early and know exactly what to do once my distortion off.

Me with nurse, i literally couldn’t find all 4 survivors till 3 gens popped and i managed to kill 3 of them, all of them were running distortion, calm spirit, and urban evade, the game took like 40 minutes of me destroying gens and playing hide and seek 😭

@@DianaHatter Yeah I know and I think having recharge is still a good idea, but it should either recharge slower, start with 1 or 0 tokens or both. I don't like how it basically guarantees your aura to be hidden most of the time, and remember - that's not the only benefit it gives you.

It's a mixed bag. I agree and disagree with you. distortion CHEWS through stacks, BUT, only for each skill check. In other words, if they get good rng and dont get many skillchecks, you can end up only chewing away a stack or two instead of all three and revealing their aura to boot. Combining it with merciless storm however might negate that since it's forced skill checks which might technically count as "good." or "not great." and as such, reveal the auras. even so, however, its difficult to think of or find a killer that can quickly take advantage of both perks Imo, nor am i sure this 100% works. i tested it and REMEMBER it working but it's purely anecdotal and i have no confirmation.

This is why i find oblivious to be super useful. Or monitor and abuse. Limit their viability to hide auras rentfree, then slap a aura read or two you limit their recharges and eat up tokens.

Gearhead eats distortion stacks. It's actually the best counter to it if you're running four aura perks and want them to work.

I don't know...Gearhead is arguably Distortion's worst enemy since it chews through tokens that the Killer (due to likely being in chase across the map) wouldn't have tried to capitalize on anyway (and tbh, most of the time the Survivor's aura is semi-hidden behind the gen's aura anyway) which leaves the Survivor open to every _other_ source of aura-reading. Would've went with Batman blocking Supes punch for Gearhead XD

I'd say Nurse's is also pretty bad. Cause even if YOU are running distortion, the Killer will still the person you are healing unless they also have it. Truly the worst scenario of losing a token and not even getting the value from it.

Let's see how many of them out there: Whispers, Surveillance, Thrilling Tremors, Rancor, Spies of the Shadows, Call of Brine (?), Infectious Fright (?), Deathbound, Discordance, Iron Maiden (?) Twins' perk that makes other random generators regress after kick, Oppression, is it? Hex: Face the Darkness, THWACK! (Skull merchant's perk), Dead Man's Switch (?). Now, perks that help track survivors, but it's hard to consider them info perks: Stridor, Bloodhound, Sloppy Butcher (?), Predator (?). Wow, there's alot to choose from, and none of them rely on survivors' auras. Let me know if I missed something.

Thing is, u can atleast play around distortion. Just dont run Aura Reading abilities. Pop+Pain res are always good enough. As survivor, not picking distortion sucks really hard. Its just praying that the killer doesnt have any aura reading abilities.

I think Distortion should nerf the remove scratch mark.

I love how this blatantly ignores that most of those perks eat up Distortion tokens. And the fact that even having Distortion isnt a guaranteed win. If anything its promoting of playing cowardly directly benefits the killer. And also the fact that a majority of those perks (and especially addons) donteven get used.

Sort of. each skill check that's a good skillcheck chews through a single stack. if you get two back to back skillchecks in six seconds that's two stacks of distortion gone. each instance of attempting to read the aura from the skillcheck chews through a stack. In other words, the less skillchecks, the less it shreds. the more skillchecks, the more it shreds. so, it shreds, but depending on luck, it may only shred through the distortion user if you're lucky or they have a toolbox they opt to use while you have gearhead active.

Doctor destroys Distortion Anti-Distortion Build Discordance, Tinkerer, Distressing, Monitor and Abuse Discordance and Tinkerer give you location information without disturbing Distortion, Tinkerer makes you undetectable on the approach, and playing Doctor with a Massive Terror Radius is going to delete Distortion Tokens So Quickly. But yeah...Tinkerer above all is the #1 Counter to Distortion. Oh, and run offerings that give you small maps!!!!

Gear head must slap distortion, distortion gamers lose fast tokens when gh active and working on generator.
