Distinctive Personal Luxury - 1977 Ford Thunderbird
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
1977 Ford Thunderbird
The seventh generation of the Ford Thunderbird is a personal luxury car that was built by Ford from the 1977 to the 1979 model years. In a key marketing shift for the model range, Ford repackaged the Thunderbird from a full-size car to an intermediate car, and ceded its full-size luxury coupe status to the Ford LTD Landau coupe.
Rather than being the traditional Ford counterpart of the Continental Mark V, the Thunderbird would share the chassis with the Mercury Cougar and the Ford LTD II before the Ford Fox platform was introduced in 1980.
The squarer, sharper styling was popular, as this generation became the best selling in the history of the Ford Thunderbird. Helped by a US$2,700 drop in price from 1976, over 318,000 were sold in 1977 and 352,000 in 1978 (the best single sales year in Thunderbird history), followed by 295,000 in 1979.
The styling of its unique wrapover roofline would carry over in smaller versions of Ford automobiles such as the 1978-1983 Ford Fairmont Futura and the Mercury Zephyr Z-7 coupes which were originally designed as Fairmont-based downsized Thunderbird proposals.

A beautiful car, my husband's dad had a 77 bought new. So many memories. Very popular in Nova Scotia, Canada where fishermen and construction workers were making very good money by 1977. These were on the highway every time I went to the beach. One day in less than forty miles I counted 14 T-Birds. Three were 76 and before and the remainder were new that year, 1977. :)

One of my good friends in high school had this car, it rode so well and was a great car. However the 400 stock was anemic, 0-60 was somewhere between 11-12 seconds. It was downright slow. Loved riding in it though.

All mid to late '70's cars were slow. Big whopping V8's producing less than 200 HP!!! Wow, now there are 3-cylinder gas engines in SUV's that produce as much. Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching!
I had one just like it rides comfortable I miss mine.

This was my first car when I was 17.It was a great car.People said I looked funny driving it because I was almost 6 feet tall. And weighed about 120 pounds.I had taken a three month camping trip in the Rocky Mountains with it.

Randy - mine too. This was my first car and I kick myself everyday because I got rid of it for a Chevy Caviler because I was going to college and thought I needed something with better gas mileage. My was brown and had the spoke wheels. It was a great car and I never had any trouble with it. I remember I installed a Pioneer stereo and an equalizer with Jensen speakers in the back. What great memories...
Actually got one of these this year, getting my license soon and it may be slow but it drives really well, fun car. Got the 400 in it so I for sure get reminded of the gas mileage but I'd rather have this than a toyota. Hard to find certain parts, though.

Hey congrats on your new ride. Go have fun and enjoy!
77 - 79 T Birds built on the Ford Gran Torino chassis or LTD ll These are Unique Cars but I prefer the Lincoln cousin T Birds 72 - 76 I do not like the Fairmont / Zephry based T Birds 80 - 82 but I am a fan of the Aero Birds 83 - 88 I have mixed opinions of the last T Birds in my opinion from 89 until they terminated in 1997 along with that generation of Cougars and Lincoln Mark 8s and then there is that cute little sporty Two seater from 2002 - 2005 that Ford tried to revive the nostalgia of the first T Birds way back in the 1950s era I do have to say that I did kind of admire some of the T - Birds from the 1960s Paul Drake era if you ever watched the old Perry Mason series Paul Drake was his Private Investigator and alway a sharp dresser and wheeled around LosAngeles in a sporty Thunderbird Convertible while following leads but I did not like the T Birds that had the rear scuicide doors and I did not like the 70 and 71 model based on looks and as for the 72 model year thank God the brought that generation of T Birds to life in 1973 if Ford had any common sense they would start developing some fine Cars again like they use too T Birds LTDs Torinos and use Mercury names again like Monterey Montego Cougar Zepher Marquis ect ect you get the point

We like the Aero Birds the best and yes if only Ford would listen to its customers and build all those cool cars today!
