Good thing he had enough time to answer your question on distilling because he's really dropping the ball on that whole "kids being born with cancer" thing. Maybe it wasn't god. Maybe you typed a question into google or youtube and it searched millions of videos and found a relevant result. This is not god's work, and you cheapen the efforts and achievements of the people who are actually responsible for your ability to type something into your phone and be handed a video like this. Writing off tech you don't understand as some kind of miracle is how people are able to build a world view where flat earth and lizard people seem like reasonable concepts. A man in California just recently killed his 2 children (with a fishing harpoon to the chest of his 10 month and 2 year old) because conspiracy theories web sites had him convinced that his wife was part lizard and his children were going to grow up to be monsters. Critical thinking skills are important. Believing god answered your prayer by delivering extremely readily available information shows a significant lack of critical thinking. It's like grabbing a dictionary and thanking god when you find the definition of a word that you looked up. Stop it. This type of flippant behavior, calling totally normal events an act of god, not only cheapens the efforts of good humans, if there is a god it cheapens any actual miracles because there is no actual bar for him to clear for something to be considered miraculous. If the starting off point is on par with "I hit the cross walk button and 20 seconds later I got a signal indicating it was safe to cross the street! God answered my prayers!" How seriously am I suppose to take any further claims of prayers being answered? And to the people who feel I'm out of line here...why? If I publicly posted that I was thanking Satan for finding this video...would that be out of line as well? It's time for the human race to put away childish toys. There was a time and place for religion. That time has passed. For the vast majority of people, every mysterious event that use to need religion to offer an explanation, we have a real explanation for. Just stop. Throwing god into totally random conversations, for mundane events, is out of line, offensive and insulting to the human race's capabilities as a whole. Where was this god that helped you find an answer on essential oils a few weeks ago when a farther put a harpoon through the chest of his 10 month old child and dumped them in a ditch? Every day...every single day this stuff happens. Either god is impotent to stop these events, in which case he isn't involved in answering your prayer, or he COULD stop these events, but ACTIVELY CHOOSES NOT TO. In which case he is unworthy of worship. OR...he doesn't exist and has simply been a security blanket, woven from lies, and used as an excuse to oppress and wage war for centuries. Any good deed religion can take credit for could also have been done by an atheist with a good heart. But to get a father to take his son to a mountain top and stab him through the heart (at the request of god) and then have a community that PRAISES that man because his faith in god is so strong.... For that you need religion. Now that I mention it, what is the difference between Abraham and the recent father in California? Is it motivations? What if he did the same act but had instead claimed that he did so under god's instruction? Just like Abraham almoat did before god said "Just kidding!" Because the actual act is essentially the same. Abraham is a good god fearing man that is looked up to because of his strong faith, but the father who actually did the same deed that god supposedly asked of Abraham...where does he rank? It's time to put away the childish toys of a primitive race. We can not have this type of foundational thinking while we have nukes, gene editing, the ability to custom produce dna editing proteins, and instant global communication laying around. I'm bonestly surprised we made it through the last 2 centuries...with this kind of tech at our fingertips we won't make it another 2 centuries with 75% of our population believing in a magic sky daddy. Eventually the wrong person, deluded by religion into thinking they are the chosen one, will release a plague or start a nuclear war in an effort to trigger the 2nd coming. But I'm super glad god answered your prayers about a distilling technique that is centuries old. What ever would have happened without that divine intervention?

Round my way people use an alembic to make aguar dente, an epic booze you add to coffee or make liquor with by adding herbs/fruit.

Great question Amanda. It depends on the plant. For the soft, leafy plants in the Lamiaceae family, like lavender and peppermint, there is no need to bruise the plant matieral as the essential oil trichomes (glands) are on the outside and the oil is easy to glean from the plant. Plants with a heavy cuticle, like bay leaf, or the confiers, need to be either bruised or soaked to soften the cuticle. Thanks for asking! Liz Fulcher, AromaticWisdomInstitute.com

Would it be possible to use dried plants in the distillation process for hydrosols? For example if I wanted to create a rose hydrosol, could I use dried roses? I know that fresh will probably be better due to the cellular moisture that Liz was referring but I am curious as to what is extracted when dried plants are used :)

would it bo worth outing the plant material in a blender to speed up the process?

Really not necessary and in truth, would increase the time the cut plant is exposed to the air and losing valuable essential oil and cellular water. When you start out what kind of still do you recommend

What do you do to remove the copper sulfate. Hope that ain't for human consumption with the copper sulfate. Should have copper screen to catch the sulfate. Or window to remove it before the worm. The plant materials have copper sulfate in them. I run a stainless 5 gal crock in digital race cooker. With a 6 window head. To fraction off the bad and leave the good. Long run setup. Reverse Osmos water works better. It has less impurities in water and will take up oils better.

@@AromaticWisdomInstitute It's a high steam process that removes mostly all impurities from the water. It drips slowly because it creates steam. Check out Water Wise, the maker.

Sandra Scott Thank you! I’ll check it out. Our speciality really is in the hand-crafted copper stills. We import from a supplier who’s family has been making them for 3 generations. They produce sweet lovely Hydrosols!

Oil is not always lighter than water. There are oils that are quite heavy. Some plants have a LOT of essential oil. RESEARCH before deciding. You are the first people that have said to use fresh plant material.

Hi Steven, you are correct, oil is not always lighter than water. In fact, weight isn't the factor but rather, density that keeps water below the essential oil. As you mentioned, there are plants that produce essential oils that will sink below the hydrosol, like Catnip for example. The time we had for the demonstration was tight so those details were beyond the time we'd been given. As for the fresh versus dried plant material, our mentor, Ann Harman who wrote "Harvest to Hydrosols" says that plants in the lamiaceae family, those that are leafy and contain a lot of cellular water, need to be distilled as quickly as possible to capture every bit of the plants liquid - water and essential oil - before it begins to evaporate. For other plants, such as resins and the woods and those with a heavy cuticle like bay, don't need to be fresh. Thanks for your in put! Liz Fulcher, AromaticWisdomInstitute.com

Essential oils will not ever evaporate. They may break down, the most volatile terpenes can be lost to heat, sun or UV light and even drying to quickly rather than proper curing. Also I’m confident you are only getting a 60% or less extraction efficiency. Try a correctly polarized solvent in respect to target compound. I’ve used N-butane (100% organic compound) to pull lavender oil in a supercritical extraction (a liquid solvent at a given pressure and temperature acts as a liquid, regarding extraction efficiency, yet flows easily and uniformly like a gas through base material.

Why not fill the stream chamber full, you have more than enough plant matrial, it seems a waste of time to NOT pack the chamber.
