Montreal’s Dissimulator will be a new name to most in 2024, but with the release of razor-sharp debut LP ‘Lower Form Resistance’ the band unleash an overwhelming future shock on the auditory and sensory nerves, permanently imprinting on the cerebral cortex with their pulsating unconventional attack. Comprised of a membership with resumes that include Chthe’ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation and more, the band executes its jagged sci-fi Death-Thrash with vicious intricacy.
Over the course of ‘Lower Form Resistance’s’ 42 minutes the jarring angular riffs, complex structures and atmosphere of exuberant incongruity meshes acutely with a straightforward momentum and perpetual accessibility at the crossroads where the Thrash and Death Metal scenes began to coalesce and directional potentiality felt limitless. Add to this a Voivod-ian prescience of robotic sentience and technological doom and Dissimulator’s vision makes for total immersion in their world-building enterprise.
The off-kilter and adventurous spirit of ‘Lower Form Resistance’ that manages to sound fresh today while conjuring a certain spirit of ’88-’93 makes the Dissimulator debut a mesmerizingly bizarre and gratifying dose of aggressive alacrity.

REAL STUDIO ENGINEERING THAT SOUNDS GREAT. The drums *actually* sound like drums.

Everyone go buy this album! It fucking shreds, and 20BS did a great job of edging us with singles for a couple months - they earned it!!

This is some of the best death/thrash I've heard in a long time. So good.
Voivod and Obliveon are obvious touchstones but I also hear elements of Coroner, Sadus and more modern bands like Vektor. Along with the new Sovereign album this is some grade A technical death/thrash.
Only a few minutes in but this rules! I mean this in the best possible way but this reminds me of one of those mid 90s era European Tech Thrash albums that got criminally slept on because people thought the genre was "dead" at the time. I've been hearing a few friends and people in online Metal circles say that Thrash is at the lowest point its been since the 90s, but I'll be damned if this gets slept on too because people refuse to look hard enough beyond the more well known bands.

I was blown away the first time i heard this album so i immediately looked them up and saw that they had 2 other albums. Super stoked so i clicked and realized in about 2 seconds that it's not the same band. It was some deathcore BS that is literally the most pretentious genre of metal there is lol.
this is just the right balance of Voivod and Vektor (with Morbid Angel vocals) to make my ears all tingly.
