    Hey Boot Guy. Do you think you can take a look at Abilene western work boots? They are one of the few western boots that are still made in Texas.

    I have a pair 2408 with the supersole 2.0 and I was not happy with the life of them only 1.5 years before they complete fell apart. So I had a local cobbler replace the worn out with Vibram christy soles and LOVE the boot now vary conformable boot to work 10-12 hrs a day in central Texas in Summer !! I think the heat in Texas is really hard on this type of sole they not made for temps 100-115 F all day but any love the videos you do Thank you

    Thanks for posting this. Subbed. I have a pair of RW 607 and Rovers. The Rover sole needs to be replaced and I was thinking of the VIbram mini-lug, but I will have to call our local dealer to see if they can put a S-S 2.0 on the Goodyear welt.

    I appreciate the very thorough examination. However I wish you had more light directed from the camera towards the boot. it's hard to see the details of the boot.

    I own 3 pairs of the 8 inch version of theirs boot and one pair I've got are going into 6 years of wear and they are cracked a little bit but they don't blow out and they don't leak at all until you get a hole hole in the sole but you definitely will get your money's worth out of them probably ten folds over lol

    The welts are glued in and what the cobbler told me that they used a sawsall to cut old sole off and rebuild the welt with new leather and put the soles on that

    I have these same boots. Every 6 months I clean them with soap & water. After they are dry I rub some Red Wing burgundy color shoe cream all over to the boot. Lastly I used the Red Wing mink oil. After I let it sit for several hours I start wiping off the excess mink oil. The burgundy cream is always rubbing off onto the rag. Is this normal? Is there a better method of using the cream and mink oil?

    My 2406's just screamed in horror! Having worn a variety of RedWing boots for more than 20 years, I can say this is the most durable sole. Also the most complimented pair? I get a lot of unsolicited "nice boots" comments. Leather quality and comfort is typical and what I've come to expect.

    rookie question - what does the shank do? is it just to try and deflect any nails you may step on or what?

  • @AA-nj4mr

    @AA-nj4mr

    Devon Sacre from what I hear the shank is for climbing ladders, kicking a shovel and much more so it won't wear out and tear up your boot

    As another comment mentioned it’s to add support when putting pressure in the area by distributing said pressure. It also makes the boot more supportive as it helps the area between the heel and forefoot from sagging. Think of laying down a 2x4 with one end on the back of a truck and the other on the ground. If you put weight on the 2x4 it will begin to bow, the shank would be akin to putting another 2x4 on top (or something more rigid)making it handle more weight before bowing the same amount.

    Not wanting to be negative, but those boots looked like they had some life left in them. The hole on the inside could raise a blister but it looked fixable. Interesting to see how boots are made I'd just pick a more broken pair!

    You're not being negative at all. They had a lot of life left in them. But in the name of curiosity and boot voucher programs everywhere. He picked up his new boots and dropped off his old one with me.
