DISS TOWN V TAUNTON TOWN 1994 FA VASE FINAL HIGHLIGHTS.

Dramatic highlights of the 1994 FA Vase final between Diss Town v Taunton Town at Wembley. Probably the most dramatic end to a Wembley final......ever (well for Diss Town supporters anyway). An unbelievable penalty equaliser from Gibbo (Paul Gibbs) in the 9th minute of injury time (who would have thought a referee from Suffolk would do that) and a dramatic extra time winner from Mendi (Peter Mendham). And love Woody's casual save just before the end. 13,500 in the crowd with 10,000 supporting Diss. Unbelievable support to walk out of the Wembley tunnel. A fantastic day for the Diss Town players, management, supporters, the town of DIss and Norfolk. The day we became the only Norfolk team to win the FA Vase which is still the case. What a team and what a perforamce from all the players. Those who played in the final and the others who unfortunately missed out but played a massive role in getting us there. Amazing scenes that will live with people who were there forever. Hope it brings back lots of great memories to everyone.

This is an absolute gem of a football match. Just as dramatic and important as the champions league final.

I was at the game with a mate who supports Taunton. Still remember his doom laden voice saying "That's a penalty."

Thanks a lot for posting this, Jason, it brought back some very happy memories! I lived near Diss all through my childhood but was at uni by the time this Vase run came around. However, I still managed to get to the Tiverton game and the final of course as well. I remember how tired everyone was by extra time, players understandably almost running to stand still! But what a tremendous effort it was to come away with the win, I was buzzing for days afterwards.

Bill Punton almost got my local team Great Yarmouth Town to the the F.A. Vase final in 1983 (we lost to eventual winners V.S.Rugby in the semi final)...but he went one better 11 years later with Diss Town...Great to see the highlights of this again though...remember watching it at the time on ITV Anglia (and I think BBC East did a similar one called 'Tangerine Dream'?)...Great memories...

I love the FA Vase. I think to make it better they should invite some selected South Scottish sides and all Welsh Premier sides into the Vase. After all the Scottish have allowed English, Welsh and Irish sides in the Scottish Challenge Cup. - What do you think? Thanks.

Peter Mendham must have thought his chances of winning a second cup final at Wembley had gone before Diss got to Wembley,. And to score the winning goal! Taunton must have been absolutely gutted though not to win that game.
