I remember being a kid and not wanting to go to school and I'd pretend to be sick, we had one of those thermometers that you put under your tongue. I'd cheat the reading by inhaling only through my nose and exhaling slowly through both my nose and mouth so I'd be able to create heat in my mouth so it would raise the temperature just enough for it to be considered a low grade fever. Just high enough for it to be a fever, too low for her to be able to tell just by touching my forehead. In reality I wasn't a kid that got sick very often but when I WOULD get sick it would be pretty bad cus of some medical issues I have so staying home was mandatory. Then when I was in highschool, sometimes when my mom was really tired of working because she was on the edge of burnout and I was exhausted from school she'd call in to my school, say I was sick, and then call her work to say she caught what I had and we'd chill at home and take a day off lol. Ah, the memories!
